Just a few bits of trivia: That is Barry Hay's (lead singer) real hair.....no perm. Golden Earring started in the 60's and they officially disbanded in February 2021. Yes, they've been around that long! The reason for the disbanding was that George Kooymans (lead guitar) has been diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) which gradually wastes away muscles. Really sad news.
Psychedelic! They are Dutch (from The Netherlands). They had been together since 1961, and only recently broke up because the guitarist has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and they didn't want to play any more without him.
Saw them live in 2019 together with my Dad (then 83 it was his wish to see them again), they where rocking it. The band has been together for 60 years 1961-2021. Sadly George the guitarist was diagnosed with ALS the end of 2020, which made the other members decide to brake up the band. But what an achievement 60 years together.
We didn't have computers back then. You only had the voice God gave you. The bands back then had to sound good on stage without any voice manipulation.

"Radio playin' that forgotten song," indeed. So many memories wrapped up in this, including driving into a new sunrise trying to get back to base before my leave expired; all while this song was on. In the 70's Frisbee sports was big and I was deep into it going into the army. Once, several of my team (including our squad sergeants and Lt.) were on the parade ground playing Frisbee on a cool but sunny Saturday morning. We had those huge but great sounding portable stereos (Ghetto Blaster) and one of the guys had one on playing rock while we were throwing disks. This song came on and suddenly everyone was throwing, making huge and incredible throws and catches. All of the moves we could muster while still being on target. My favorite was throwing over a guys head to have him turn around as it returned and catching it. It was like this song motivated us and it was always a welcome companion on the backside of a 20 hour drive. Like I said, a lot of memories and your song choices is was brought me to your channel.
That drum breakdown in the middle remains one of the greatest pieces of music ever recorded. The whole song is phenomenal. But those drums are just next level. I was 4 when this came out. Fair to say I've heard it a few times. It is as epic today as it was then.
I was amazed about that too - then I read that Golden Earring had performed this in front of - some Dutch school for the deaf! That's why they are all just sitting there! Their song, Twilight Zone, came out around 1982 or 1983. My middle son was born in 1998, and it's his favorite song. Of all the songs in the world, Twilight Zone is what does it for him. Radar Love was inescapable when it came out. I was a kid, but I remember it was always on the radio. Always, and no one complained.

Disco did not become nationally popular until 1976 or so as a music genre. I hate that when people think of the 70s they think of disco. There was so much amazing music in the 70s before disco! This song was one of them.
I love the disco era but I agree there was a whole different world that came before. I mostly think of the singer-songwriter era. Very heavy on the California (especially southern) vibe. Also I think of the rock, particularly punk, during the disco era. Hip hop started during the disco era too and all of it was going down in New York. What a time.
The disco lettering in the background has nothing to do with the music genre. "Disco" was a very popular music show in Europe on German television, the german version of the american "Soul Train"
Back then the audience was told to be quiet as the focus was on filming the band. This was also a TV show. In the late 60's and throughout the 70's I went to countless music festivals, concerts and bars (for the music) and all those crowds were rocking.

Whenever I am listening to radar love weather I am in a vehicle or not I just feel like as soon as the song started I was flying down the road such a great song
Fourteen years old when this came out and it enjoyed radio play for quite a long time. Excellent song. The music you experience as a kid always impacts you more than at any other time. One of the many mysteries about music.
I remember in the 70s, once we had moved to Spain, whenever we went back to Michigan we'd always get updates from my uncles on what to listen to. Foghat, J. Geils Band, Steppenwolf, Golden Earring, Jefferson Starship, the Cars... Those were the kind of groups we listened to back then. I have way more vinyl records of Golden Earring than CDs. Moontan is arguably their greatest record. I love the Vanilla Queen.
I was 14 the year your mother was born! On a visit to see cousins in West Virginia at that time we had hoth the idea and opportunity to ride motorcycles on a new stretch of highway, opened a week later as Interstate 79, that went right by their house. 90 mph and smooth as glass. There was a radio and good speakers on that bike and “Radar Love” was jammin’ Also another great one called “Right Place, Wrong Time,” which we certainly were, by Dr. John. Great tune. I had fun hearing your take on this. Thank you.
Great! This was an old broadcasting from German Television, a show for the teens called "Disco". They had lots of rockbands AND disco-acts from that era doing playback or sometimes live performances. Brings back strange memories.
Yeah man! Golden Earring are the Dutch Rolling stones. And did still had sold out concerts 'till 2019! ```This band played for more than 60 years together! Amazing!
I was born in ‘73 as well and my friend our generation had THE BEST music ever. We had 70s, 80s & 90s. Every every style, every race, every sex we had blues, rock, rap, hip hop, r&b, metal. We had all female bands etc. You name it we had it and rocked it all. Whatever mood you were in there was music for it. There was talent needed back then. Those of us who play instruments were introduced by these bands. When we heard an awesome guitar solo it inspired us to learn it. Even young kids today cover these old songs because they were awesome. Nowadays it’s a music machine w no guitars, no intros , guitar solos, drum solos etc. the beat starts and the singing and it’s over. We had black groups w awesome music and dance music, we had white bands, Hispanic bands etc and we all listened to it. There were black men that sang the blues and we had white men that sang the blues. No one cornered the music market so to speak. There were bands that were blended. Take The Band for instance. They had a song called “The Weight”. They did a show that featured a black band called The Staples Singers and let me tell you if you want a soulful song in a 70s vibe hit it up. We had Hootie and The Blowfish which featured a black front man. We didn’t get bent out of shape over race issues. It was music. We could all be one while listening to music. Nowadays it seems it’s one or the other which is a shame. Love your reactions my friend. Keep em coming. .
The trip line from the bass and the percussion is the sound of the tyres on the road ..."the road has got me hypnotised - and I'm speeding to-wards a new sunrise" - pure compositional genius
Barry Hay (lead singer) got to meet Brenda Lee a couple of years ago in the program Ilses Veranda. Ilse (Dutch singer) invites people to her house in Nashville and tries to let the guest biggest music dream come true! Ilse and Barry sang Radar Love for Brenda and she loved it :) You should check it out!
Also you should check out Ilse DeLange because she’s our Dutch treasure. Songs like Miracle and The only thing I ever got right are definitely worth it !!!
I suggest you follow this up with Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone." Unlike this tune, it is much grittier and down and dirty. I think you'll dig it. Oh, and don't forget "Lazy." Cheers, bruv....
This is one of my favorite songs. This video is the single version of around 5:00 minutes. The album versions is 6:26, and that missing minute and a half adds a LOT of dynamics with a low, slow, smooth interlude before it picks back up. That's the part where you realize how bad you were speeding so you can back it off. Then it kicks back in and you speed worse than you were before! Headphones are a must on this one.
Definitely need to react to *Golden Earrings* song *Twilight Zone.* Then you just might wanna throw in *Flirting With Disaster* by *Molly Hatchet.* But don't listen to it while driving because you might get a speeding ticket lol. Love Peace and Happiness Y'all !!
i grew up on the golden earring, them being from my hometown. the drummer (cesar zuiderwijk) is very active with drum schools, music schools, breeding new talent.
Interesting band, I love the whole Moontan album (UK vinyl version, the version most readily available on CD replaces Big Tree, Blue Sea with Suzy Lunacy and Just Like Vince Taylor) from which Radar Love is taken but, it's a strange mix of straight ahead rock, prog and psychedelic rock.

My best friend's father had an amazing music collection that he gave his son in the late 80s when we were in Highschool. Tons of vinyl, 8 tracks even 3/4 inch reel to reel as well as his rack stereo. I had known Golden Earring from When The Bullet Hit The Bone on MTV earlier in the 80s but it just so happened that my first car was a 70s car that still had a working 8 track player. So I was gifted all those 8 tracks - none of which was better than Golden Earring. I played the hell out of that tape! The first time I really kissed a girl that song was playing. I turn 50 this year and I still have that 8 track tape and I have a 70s era Sears console stereo that has an 8 track tape deck that still works and every now and then I put that tape in, turn it up, and it still sounds like the first time I ever heard that song, or the first time I took a chance and got that first kiss. Anyway I'm glad you like it

The disco lettering in the background has nothing to do with the music genre. "Disco" was a very popular music show in Europe on German television, the german version of the american "Soul Train"
@@DIDISCH68 True, but those who are not around then get thrown off by that and think it’s about the music. Trying to educate people here.
The song that started the disco Era! I was a junior in high school.
This video wins for ‘the most deadass audience I have ever seen’. Like for real WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM!?!
Back then the audience was told to be quiet as the focus was on filming the band. This was also a TV show. In the late 60's and throughout the 70's I went to countless music festivals, concerts and bars (for the music) and all those crowds were rocking.
@@CharCanuck14 IKR? I’ve seen lots of performances from back then when people we’re gettin it, too but this one’s just weird. Like they’re not even moving.
@@Kim-hc5si I'm just speculating here but I wonder if it was a Dutch show? I lived there a long time and found the Dutch to be more reserved than Americans/Canadians. Just my thought.
@@CharCanuck14 Interesting! I’m gonna go look it up…
@@Kim-hc5si Please let me know what you discover Kim.....I'm interested.
About 1994 I went to a concert in Cincinnati that had Golden Earring warming up for Jethro Tull.

That was one of our ultimate party/dancing/head banging Song. When i play it today, all my 60 year old friends get on their feet... And Rock it!!!
One of the best "behind the Wheel" and get outta the way songs I'm coming thru!! playing on the radio!!!! Not bad for a Dutch band either!! Thanks for playing!
Glad you like the song... I was 19, was a great time for music, great driving tunes
Whenever I am listening to radar love weather I am in a vehicle or not I just feel like as soon as the song started I was flying down the road such a great song
Guy, all these people got a real beat going on. 🥁🥁🥁🎸🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶 off the wall good. Thank you 👍🥰
The bass intro is awesome and the bass line carries the song. Give the bass player his props!!
Fourteen years old when this came out and it enjoyed radio play for quite a long time. Excellent song. The music you experience as a kid always impacts you more than at any other time. One of the many mysteries about music.
I love the heavy bass in this song. I've always been partial to the rhythm section of a band.
Thank you.
I was born in 72 and I'm happy to say my 15 Year old knows golden earring.. we rock out to twilight zone all the time 😊
This album is a killer. So much more than just this song. Vanilla Queen, Candy's going bad, Are you receiving me.
great album indeed
I love the album.
Those kids sitting at the edge of the stage as if they were waiting for a bus instead of listening to great music both crack me up and break my heart.
This song has rocked for a long time. 😎
Great! This was an old broadcasting from German Television, a show for the teens called "Disco". They had lots of rockbands AND disco-acts from that era doing playback or sometimes live
performances.
Brings back strange memories.
I love all you kid's first time reactions to the music I grew up with. So glad you appreciate it as much as we did.
Me too, but sometimes think it is t get more followers that gets them more money. Hope not.
Keep em coming. .
From someone born in 1962, I’ve heard all the music. And you’re right, you loved the music whatever it was and no one judged you.
Me too 10/04/1973
The trip line from the bass and the percussion is the sound of the tyres on the road ..."the road has got me hypnotised - and I'm speeding to-wards a new sunrise" - pure compositional genius
👍👍
One of my all time favorite songs!!! I was 14 then. What good times we had.!!! 😁
Was the good old days.
I gave up my senior prom to see Golden Earring open for The Who at Madison Square Garden. This is awesome
One of the classics from early 70s
Crank it up!
I suggest you follow this up with Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone." Unlike this tune, it is much grittier and down and dirty. I think you'll dig it. Oh, and don't forget "Lazy." Cheers, bruv....
When the lady smiles, this song was even banned because of a scene with a nun.
@@joostprins3381
DEFINITELY TWILIGHT ZONE!!
Twilight Zone .. Another good dance song. Such a good beat and rhythm to have a serious good time..
@@joostprins3381 when the lady smiles is one of my favorite songs ever
Golden Earring was known for all the band members having their own solos. They still groove and rock!!
They discontinued in 2021 when George Kooijmans was no longer able to perform due to A.L.S.
I am old enough to remember this first coming out on the radio, then to hear you said you mom was born that year. God I feel old not thanks.
I was a Senior in High School when this came out in 1973.. talk about rockin' - out... this was the song of the year.
This played on pop and rock radio stations. Still fresh!
One of the greatest bits of driving music ever recorded.
AWESOME song!! This is one of those songs that you absolutely have to BLAST on your stereo!
I'm 60 and I can say that we grew up with the best bands. It's great to see these guys "discover"what we already know is great music
"Boogie no more " kicks ass .
i grew up on the golden earring, them being from my hometown.
the drummer (cesar zuiderwijk) is very active with drum schools, music schools, breeding new talent.
I was born in 1963 and I've loved these guys since they came out when I was 10, I'm the youngest of 6 kids and I grew up loving the music of this era
Yes! These cats are from my country 😁👍. One of the most succesfull international Dutch acts. Went to a lecture from the drummer a few years ago. Cool guy, and awesome drumming skills as well 👌
Hey I`m from Scotland but the Hermann Brood album Shpritsz is pretty special, to me at least.

Not everyones cup of tea though...
This song takes me back to driving three on the tree, four on the floor, and five on the floor. When it comes on the radio, I'm glad my Chevrolet Impala has cruise control. Greatest 🚘 song of all time. Radar Love will NEVER DIE!
Yes. Watch the accelerator:) yes there were psychadelics everywhere. Discotek was the original name for a dance hall. "Disco" music became a separate thing.
Jay, I'm a 50yo+ White guy who grew up in MN, but the bridge you built means that we now have a mutual interest we could talk about. But the important thing is that I'm only one among millions, and you now have a commonality with them all. In short, you've built a bridge that connects you across time, race, and region, and you know what? From your channel's growth, we're happy to welcome you.
That's a powerful asset you have acquired, so put it to work, young man!
PS: You gotta do another one with Rome Life, and I'll bet you that your clan can come up with a banger from a band he's never heard of, so you can rock out on his ass they way he did you, lol.
I wonder how many speeding tickets this song is responsible for :)
I personally know of at least one
Thousands and thousands!!! 😁
Not as many as Highway Star by Deep Purple.
@@Gromit801 Definitely a contender :)
I had a 70 Mustang fastback that automatically increased speed when this song came on😎
My best friend's father had an amazing music collection that he gave his son in the late 80s when we were in Highschool.
Anyway I'm glad you like it
I'm so glad I was alive then. This is MUSIC not that overproduced autotuned noise now. You had to have a voice and talent.
Loved this track for ages!
Wow, your mom is only 12 years older than me and she was born in a great year for classic rock. Some other great songs to look into that came out that year are Grand Funk Railroad (We're an American band), Paul McCartney and Wings (live or let die), Alice Cooper (No more mr nice guy), Lou Reed (Take a walk on the wild side), The Allman Brothers band (Ramblin' Man), The Edgar Winter Group (Frankenstein), Three Dog Night (Shambala), and David Bowie (Space Oddity). Also you've already reacted to some other great songs of 1973.
For some reason,. Playing this song and driving,. You always end up speeding 😉❤️
The year your mom was born. So really your Grandparents music.
The 70s good times to be young
No, doesn't make me feel old at all. I was a junior in high school when his mother was born. Really I'm fine
Hummm... well I’m your MOM’S age! Lol 😂 (damn) born in 1975, this was my dad’s music and BLESS HIM ❤️🎸🤟🏼🎶 he raised us with a love of rock music. I was rocked to sleep to Zeppelin, Queen, Simon and Garfunkel, The Doors, 3 Dog Night, Cream!

Yeah, that bass really drives this tune.
The 70' was the era of "We've got special effects and we're gonna use them" on every music TV show on the planet.
Killer Bass! And those Drums..Damn! All roads now lead to.."Twilight Zone" Period! See ya on the other side! 🎧😎
The rhythm section was amazing in Golden Earring. Bass and drums drove this song for certain. And like everyone else says, you listen to this while driving and you're bound to get a ticket. :-D
Jay, great song! It’s one of my dad’s favorite song when he was growing up. Can I request Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High on the Mountain” for you and Amber to react to? I think you’d really dig the smooth voice Vince has and the great harmony he and Alison Krauss have together.
Rinus Gerritsen, bass guitar, George Kooymans, lead guitar, Barry Hay, Lead singer, and Cesar Zuiderwijk, drummer.
"When the Lady Smiles" is a great hit as well, although some people had something to say about the videoclip.
So many gigs with my beloved friend Eugene David. Mooney rests in peace..n imagine heavens band!!!
