  • Today I'm going to illustrate the proper method utilizing the owners manual on removing, storing, and installing the C4 Corvette targa top. These tops are a fairly involved piece, and require the installation and tightening of 4 separate anchor bolts to ensure the targa top stays secure while driving.
    Watch along as I remove the fiberglass body colored top, install the optional acrylic glass blue tint see through top in its place, and finally store/secure the solid top in the rear compartment hatch area.

    Thanks for the video. Love the c4 and corvette content. I can’t wait til it cools down so I can drive my C4 and not worry about dash warp when I park it.

      Glad to do it, buddy. I'm looking forward to the cooler weather here also. We should just be a few weeks away.

      It would take several years of heat and sunlight to warp a dash

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  Рік тому +1

      You definitely have to leave it exposed to the sun for quite awhile.

    What's the difference between the 2.....i replaced mine because it was cracked......but the new 1 I bought wouldn't fit in the back

      I originally had an acrylic roof that cracked shortly after I bought my 95......then replaced it at my local corvette shop and they didn't have the same style panel I had

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  2 роки тому +1

      Sounds like they replaced it with an aftermarket unit if it doesn't fit in the rear storage compartment. Both the acrylic and solid roof will have the same dimensions since they use the exact same frame. One is just has an acrylic glass panel and the other fiberglass.

    whats the big arching top piece called (gose from one side of the car to the other). It connects the rear window with the top

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  2 місяці тому +1

      Those are the interior halo panels. It's actually 2 pieces, a left and right, and are fastened together in the middle with 2 screws that you can see when looking straight up from either seat.

      no, I usually keep the extra tops indoors keep them wrapped up in a blanket. I haven't seen one of those aftermarket covers in awhile.

    Well I will tell ya what on my 85 vette the front of the targa top fits perfect as it should just the way it came off the car into the rear hatch area. Who says you reverse it? Try that and you cannot latch the back glass it DOES NOT FIT IN BACKWARDS. I repeat it fits just the same as it came off the car.

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  Рік тому +1

      Michael, I appreciate your input, but you are incorrect on the orientation of the top. There is a spring loaded plastic pintle style latch with a small lever directly behind the rear hatch latch that fits into a receiver hole in the front frame of your targa top. The top mounting orientation is designed so that it can be placed into the brackets located on the top of the frame rails behind the seat with the front of the top being secured with the latch I just spoke of. This allows you to still have useable rear cargo space so that you can fit bags and other items under the top when its in the cargo area.
      I would be willing to bet your latch is broken off or removed due to age. Take a look for the hole in your targa top and a rectangular cutout in the rear package tray and you will see what I am talking about.
      Thanks for the comments

    i like my fiberglass top 100x, i will never use my clear top

    • @VetteSource
      @VetteSource  3 роки тому +1

      I hear ya. Personally I like the look of the body colored top better than the clear top as well, but the clear top is pretty cool at night with the sky view, especially if you're on some cool back country roads. It's also lighter and much easier to manhandle in and out of the storage area by yourself.
