Oh, I also meant to say, I really respect and admire the way you are making your office hours work better for you and for holding the students more accountable. With the testing issue, it's so annoying. I hate for them to miss instructional time but it's also insane for them to be at the end of the marking period without having made it up.
I think these are all great plans. We have student conductor, which is a website where we have to enter any bathroom breaks or tardies. School policy is no leaving the room for the first or last 10 minutes of class. My classroom policy is no bathroom breaks during instructional time until we get to Independent work. If someone asks I'll tell them if it becomes an emergency ask again. Students are really good about it. I did have a few frequent flyers, and I put up a bright orange laminated sign outside my classroom door that said Use my slash your time wisely. Use the bathroom before class! So I'll have a lot of students stop by the door, let me know they're going to the bathroom and dash. They may be 1 minute late to class but they're not interrupting anything because we're still doing attendance and homework check at that time
I really love watching your videos. I actually took a screenshot and am going to make my own tardy sheet because like you said, it’s so challenging keeping track of when students are tardy. My school has a policy where they get a low-level infraction after 3 tardies so this will help me keep track of them but also keep students accountable as well. So, thank you!
There was this teacher UA-camr I used to watch, not gonna say her name for security, but credits still go to her, she had a laundry or clothing rack that you can get that I actually got from Target for like $10 to make my own whiteboard easel and put my almost 20 years good ‘ol pocket chart calendar on there as well, but you could get the double rod version rack and take off the middle rod, and attach another cellphone/calculator pocket chart holder if you have more, and then roll the stand into the storage closet with the kids’ iPhone or Android in there and roll it back out before your block ends for the science room and then roll it behind the desk in your other room. That’s something you could try out doing too!
I carnt believe there were so many students missing tests for so long. There’s then no time to work on weak points. That must have been stressful for you. I hope it improves going forward for you. Let’s see how these changes go in a future update. Have a nice weekend.
