This is by far the ugliest port, there is still the Wii version which is fhe same with better visuals and the HD version for the ps3 and x360 which looks phenomenal
Kind of. I'm pretty sure the cutscenes were made on a computer (like most games), and recorded from there, rather than either the 360 or the PS3. I say this because the scenes in the Wii and PS2 versions have no lag whatsoever (just like a development computer wouldn't), unlike in the HD console versions where the scenes lag whenever the werehog model is on-screen.
@@casualvanilla There's a difference between CGI and in-game cutscenes. Think of CGI cutscenes as the console/game playing a .mp4 file. While in-game cutscenes are happening in the game and take a bit more out of the console to process.

This was by far my most favorite Sonic game growing up. I literally beat this game all the way through probably 10 times 🤣🤣 Its crazy looking back... I started out on the Nintendo 64. We've came a long way with graphics & gaming abilities. The graphics for this is incredible considering its PS2... but it was much cooler when I was a kid 😅
PS2 Unleashed was my first Sonic game. Despite being inferior to the PS3/Xbox360 version, it was pretty good to play, even felt just as fast (except in some sections, notably in boss battles). Edit: Anyone here that knows about the start-launch boost you can get in this version? So far, no one on YT has ever done it (mostly because the game NEVER tells you that you can).
You're talking about that spin dash? You have to press boost button many times in the just moment (when it says "ONE", exactly). If you do it well, you'll get it

This game looks like a Dreamcast or PSP game, and it dropped on the PS2 in 2008 (Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 look next gen for PS2 standards, at least compared to this, and they both came out way before this game and 7th generation gaming in general). And while the Wii version doesn't hurt my eyes, it looks a (graphically) standard GameCube game from 2003. (Again, Sonic Colors looks like a PS3 game running in 480p)

Probably because back in 2008 the PS2 didn't completely phase out yet, it had a decent market especially in places like Latin America, with games still being released for the console.
Late response, but most Sonic fans were either on the Wii or the PlayStation 2 by that point. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were new, and the only Sonic game on them was Sonic 2006. Unleashed also clearly had one of the biggest budgets for a Sonic game, so Sega could afford to have it ported to the Wii and PlayStation 2. Besides, the Wii was a new console at that point, it made sense. The PlayStation 2 was eight years old, but it was still doing well in the United States, and was still really big in Latin America, especially Brazil which finally got it around 2007-08.
Cool stuff! Would be very curious to see emulated HD Wii comparison with emulated HD PS2. I can emulate quite a few PS2 games just fine on my PC but for some reason this one still lags my computer. I can only assume it must have been one of the more demanding games for the PS2 at the time.
