I think by default the switch is set to 18 v. Didn't try to run it on 9 but damn VOP9 rocks.. Whether it's a small solid state or a tube monster it adds so much color to the sound and doesn't fuck anything up. Def. the best stomp box I ever owned. Great from blues to heavy metal. I am seriously in love with this little green tank.
Very classic sounding on both pedals. I myself have a hard time differentiating Tube screamers from each other. However, These do have some mojo to them.
Hey ! Terrific demo. I was trying to decide between one of these 2 maxons and wasn´t sure of difference between them. It seems to me the 820 sounds more open, uncompressed and natural overall (tube amp like). Tonally they are very similar. Which one would you recommend?
When you put this in front of an already overdriven amp at volume it will not give an audible volume boost!!! I don't understand why people don't get it overdrive pedals don't boost the signal when the amp is already overdriven! All it will do is saturate the signal more adding more noise! If you want to boost the signal put a boost type of pedal in the loop and that will give you up to 20db. Otherwise use these the way they were designed to be used in front of a clean amp or in front of an already overdriven amp to push it into more saturation!
Jason Sheppard yes that’s correct but you wont get a big volume boost unless the amp is on low volume. Same as if the amp is overdriven already it’ll only add more saturation not a volume boost! Your hitting the preamp so when any amp is turned up whether clean or dirty then adding an overdrive pedal regardless how it’s set it will not give a volume boost?
Usually OD pedals sound best with the amp set on the verge of breakup. When they’re clean if you strum light and slightly dirty if you hit the strings hard. IMO.
Reminds more to my ears that of Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive more than any Maxon OD808/OD9 or Ibanez TS808/TS9 (except the Sparkle Drive has more control over the clean against overdriven balance, Its worth a look if anyone likes the two pedals in video). I retired my Maxon OD808, OD9 and TS9 pedals to studio use only when i picked up a (Digitech) CM-2 from their hardwire series. Cheaper than any of the re-issues and for nailing the front-end of any of my amps pretty much how GuemB2 mentions ideal
Checking this out for the first time in 2023. The "$1500 Klon" line made me laugh!
Great video - many thanks

Killer setup and sponsors. Thanks for sharing, TTK.

I just ordered the VOP-9 along with the CP-9 Pro+
The wife's gonna be pissed.
WAR MAXON
I'm pretty sure these are the same pedal, it's just that the VOP-9 is built in a smaller enclosure.
Sally or Sue there aint no difference between the two.Well not much anyway.Awesome pedals.You are right TK very organic sound.

Awesome video man never knew that Maxon made the original 808 awesome video man
Screamers are great for bass too.
Both pedals aren´t tubescreamers. These pedals are very close to the Klon Centaur.
Does anyone know if these two pedal are the same circuit or a little different?
your last solo was the real heavy shit m8 gongratzz i hope one day i'll be as good as you :p
Friggin' awesome TK! Oh, what I would do to get my hands on a TS-808...

My ears and experience tell me the this is wrong. Besides, with gain on zero, these pedals act as a pure clean boost

Yes I suppose you’re right.. if your amp is already t max volume then I guess there’s no way to make it louder. Sorry I guess I misunderstood

Was the VOP9 run at 18 volts?
the 820 sounds a bit more organic to me. Great video as always.
Nice!
He should mention that the Maxon vintage line are hand made pedals. Not sure about the other one.
I like the update in sponsors :)
Good 1 TK! Rock on!
Gain minimum
Tone where you want
Level max or close to it
that is how you boost
@IzzyBoyadzhieff He did say $1500, not $500
how is the name of that 500$ long discontinued pedal written?
@hawg427 yes, I know, @DMSProduktions told me and I replied 10x(thanks)

@DMSProduktions Listenn to it again, he did say $1500 dollars :-)
Mr TK. Please :) play this pedal with a fender stratocaster or telecaster.
I dig, I can't relate to active pickups!
Can i has Randall head in tha back? :3
not that this is negative or anything, but why are almost all of these so far distortion type pedals?!
@TheUsed707 nah he looks more like a luke.....
@DMSProduktions 10x
Like with most tubescreamer circuits, they all sound the same.
No way, these sound very different to a classic tube Screamer, thankfully
Yeah these are klon based not ts
