I'VE KNOWN KENNYSINCE THE DAYS AT HIS BASEMENT IN SUNSET PARK , BROOKLYN AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IF HE CANT MAKE YOU DANCE WITH HIS BEAT CHOICES , YOU HAVE TO BE EITHER DEAD OR TONE DEAF. LOL. I'VE SEEN THIS MAN PROGRESS FROM THE GETGO AND I'M HERE TO SAY THAT THE MAN HAS BECOME AN ICON IN THE DJ COMMUNITY. MUCH RESPECT TO YOU KEN.
Kenny has collaborations with Toddla T, Robert Owens, Bontan and Man Without A Clue forthcoming on his label Dopewax, and he's launching his Rinse FM radio residency this October. To properly reflect on his career would take much too long, but in short, Mixmag is beyond grateful to have the don Kenny Dope launching Lab NYC. Kenny Dope will be at the new club Phonox in London next week, September 25. In case you're unfamiliar with Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez, the name Masters At Work might ring a bell. as he's one half of the house music pioneering producer/DJ duo. Kenny is Grammy-nominated, been doing it since the 80s and has an unrivaled collection of over 50,000 records. Still touring as MAW in Ibiza and elsewhere, Kenny is non-stop even 25 years later. -- The Smirnoff Sound Collective is all about bringing fans closer to the DJs, providing up and coming talent with a solid platform and throwing unique events where fans and artists can party together.
Kenny Dope is definitely a master at work! I clearly remember seeing him DJ back in the 90's, NYC now that was the #1 hottest place on earth for this genre of wonderful music, we would dance to the break of dawn and not stand around like wall flowers!!!
I'm blessed to see that the ppl are enjoyin the jam, however they're just standin there watchin the D.J.,lol. They needed me there rockin!!.. This shit is hard!!!..
First time watching it and wow Kenny Dope is killin it!!!! I’m working out to this set and it’s sad to know people of my generation don’t know the real house music. Wow Kenny Dope Louie Vega, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Carl Cox legends!!!!!!
See that's the difference between the NY AN THE MIGHTY CHI TOWN WHEN IT COMES TO THIS THING WE CALL UNDERGROUND HOUSE MUSIC...WE LOVE THIS SHIT TO OUR CORE!!! THE DANCE FLOOR WOULD BE ROCKING!!! SO ALL HOUSE HEADS STAND THE FUCK UP AN SUPPORT OUR MUSIC!!!.
It has nothing to do with NYC versus CHI TOWN because this is a white hipster Brooklyn club that's why people aren't really moving and what little movement they're making is a lot for them, if there was more brown people in that club you would see more movement because after all it is NYC and we brought the world house music and we know how to move to it.
chi town brought house music mate...undeniable. i love the nyc sound but that came later. RIP Frankie Knuckles...THE GODFATHER OF HOUSE skitz set by the way, actually ..dope!
Here in the UK it's well known that house originated in Chicago. Sure I wouldn't argue the contribution to the scene made by NY DJ's or artists but house music is a Chicago thing and the whole world knows it.
Solo So ... Same as :D .. I'd be Sweeeeeaating , soaked thru & fckin avinggg ittt ...These crowds on here do my fckin nutt in .. I don't get it .. Lol 'They' certainly DONT .. It's mental .. Seen Kenny dope a few years back at tv bar in Detroit he crushed it every one dancing there ass off it was during the winter that feeling of walking out the sweaty ass club into the freezing cold lol

To be fair, he has no showmanship. Like dude at least slightly move when it gets to the drop. The crowd is clearly engaged and watching his every move, all he has to do is move a little and the crowd will start moving.
This is audio orgasm for an old house cat like me (45 years old). But I can see it is not tops for the younger folks. Oh well, more for me. I would have not stopped dancing if I had been there.
Kenny Dope is a master, no doubt, but that crowd is weak! Disgraceful to have this cat slamming banger after banger with people standing there, barely moving, drinking and talking!
This crowd are nothing but a bunch of "posers." A term we use to use for people who act like they know trying to fit in but are clueless. This is more of s social crowd. In my day we would be tearing up the dance floor. "jacking" blowing up the spot.
I agree about the crowd but all these contrived setups are the same. Now I think Kenny Dope is.....DOPE! However the crowd need to vibe off the DJ especially in these circumstances and he doesn't exactly look engaged! Starring at his laptop and looking like he can't wait for it to finish! As I said I love this guy, always have but it is a two way street! But yeah these crowds are full of posers with very little clue what house music is! I am just popping to put on some body armour ready for the replies to this comment lol
Freedom of shyness, freedom of not dancing, freedom of misunderstanding housemusic, freedom of misunderstanding everything. I agree with all of you but don't like TBT house-nostalgia. Plethora of sensational dancing going on everywhere. Chicago & Japanese foorwork for instance. Look around and do not despair.
I had a variety of experiences here in Toronto - to be honest it all depends on the club and the crowd it attracts, regardless of who is playing. I seen banger sets when the crowd was interested on how to get a girls/boys phone number. I seen sets that were nothing special and somewhat flat and the crowd was high as fuck sweating buckets dancing their asses off. Social media inflicts this need for people to show that they are doing something on the weekend because God forbid on a Monday they say they did nothing over the weekend. Legendary Dj's that play those parties are making a living of the dance-less douches - so be it. Because next time they come over, we who respect the music, will dance our asses off and show the respect they deserve.
Great sounds. Not so live a crowd at first, but seem to be warming up. Shame I couldn't see the whole night! Will you be coming to Harlem any time soon?
Anyone know the track at 15:45, with the samples from Cajmere - Brighter Days (Underground Goodies mix) and Gill Scott-Heron - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised? The big man plays it a lot, but I can't find it anywhere!
you know . . .looking back at when i first started seeing house music clips here on YT (about 10 yrs now)....where the crowds are just basically standing around. . .i had a thought but couldn't vocalize what i was feeling til this clip for some reason....and that thought is : House/Techno/Disco or whatever they're calling it these days . . .is not meant to just stand around to, i mean you could . . .but house is something that . . . . .Oh Snap!!! i thought i had the words LOL , it'll come to me but ima just end by saying this is dancing music not Lounge ,which is a hot genre too,not downing it.
I am happy to consider myself an old school house head......from New York. i don't get the crowd just standing there like that. they are in the presence of house royalty and should behave appropriately.
I'm going keep it real and 100. White people from all over the world can dance their asses off to House Music. Except the ones from the U.S. I've been to many countries and have seen it from my experience. Big up to the House Heads from U.K, Germany , France, Canada and South Africa.
I have a big exam coming up at the end of the month. Kenny DGs mixes are what's keeping me going. Thanks Ken.
I'VE KNOWN KENNYSINCE THE DAYS AT HIS BASEMENT IN SUNSET PARK , BROOKLYN AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IF HE CANT MAKE YOU DANCE WITH HIS BEAT CHOICES , YOU HAVE TO BE EITHER DEAD OR TONE DEAF. LOL. AND THATS THE TRUTH!!! ✌🏿💪🏿👍🏿☝🏿💯👑
Shut up
I'm loving every minutes of this set, soulful house from the dope master 👏👏👌

+Mixmag Tracklist? :D
+Mixmag How embarrassed do you feel for the DJ, and for yourself, when the crowd just stand around like this.
Its too ambient, needs more lights.
Poor Kenny Dope...must be hard to get in a groove in such a lame environment!
Baby powder underground NYC scene head over to the pink tea cup for breakfast. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Kenny is 'dope' and I am dancing to this in my kitchen making spag bol.get on the house.
Kenny is a House legend. Brought in Barbara Tucker perfectly.. Wicked set......
I love this mix....I prefer more slamming house like this big basslines and hard kickdrums. Straight dubby raw grooves with 90s elements thrown in. 🇬🇧
bro if I was there I be on the floor and kicking people off. And invite house dancers to come tear it up
This is audio orgasm for an old house cat like me (45 years old). But I can see it is not tops for the younger folks. Oh well, more for me. I would have not stopped dancing if I had been there.
