Too high for motorway cruising. If he fits the correct 2.93 diff to match the manual gearbox it will be around 2700rpm at 70mph.
@@gregmarking6716 if you’re doing a lot of motorway driving then I would agree it’s not a good option for a 5 speed, but a good upgrade otherwise as the car is a lot more lively when compared to a 2.93.
A 3.38 ratio is pretty perfect - as long as one uses a BMW 6 speed gearbox 😜
Can vouch for Nick being your man when it comes to BMWs. He sourced plenty and gave some great advice on my old E46 clubsport

OH SHIT THE E46 DON NICK JUPP. big up Nick, I had a 330cd that had a blowing exhaust manifold. I didn't even know it was blowing, he asked me to rev it once and was like YAH EXHAUST MANIFOLD CRACKED. Didn't even let me buy the wrong part I was going to buy off him. Such a g.
The front half of the driveshafts are all you need when doing a swap like this, if you put the front half of the manual driveshaft onto the original automatic rear half of the driveshaft it would have fitted without needing modification!
All e36s and e46s are like this, for example small case rear ends have a longer driveshaft, so if you pull a manual conversion out of an e36 318 the driveshaft will be too long to fit into a e36 325, but if you put the manual front half of the shaft onto the auto rear half it will be the correct length as the rear half is a certain length to suit what rear end you have.
I like this more than the main channel, the only bad thing is Alex popping up for a carvertical ad😂

I see so many other comments like this, but I LOVE where this channel is going. Great for little side projects like this on more personal cars and smaller 1 car type adventures that don't fit on the main channel. Reviews/drives should definitely come to this channel like you mentioned at the end. Why not keep filming the normal content like this as it only adds value to the channel. Keep up the content on both channels!
I’ve had a few dealings with Nick and bought a few bits off him. I can fully vouch he knows exactly what he’s doing and the best place for Bimmer spares!

I’ve performed the same swap on a E46. Very straightforward, did my own wiring for the reverse light to the relay panel under the bonnet. Also did the coding to remove the TCM from the start up roster. Piece of cake. I also made an upgraded shifter linkage from the transmission to the shifter assembly.
Interesting seeing Nick Jupp in a vid (the bmw parts guy who uses a hillariously horendous amount of parcel tape to wrap stuff 😂😂)

Coding out the gear cog is easy. You need to remove a line from vehicle order in INPA. I know because my 330Ci Clubsport was converted to manual and I did it on that. I think it's #250 that has to be deleted.

Also with my diff (which I think is from an auto) is doing 3,000rpm at 80mph.

Nick Jupp is the man for E46 bits....used him many a time for all my 46's for thing or another.
Have done a 6 speed swap here from a E36 M3 cause of a friend offering it up for me
NEeded the E46 M3 mounting parts and prop, but a custom spacer was needed to marry it up to the 188k diff.
About time old Jupp got his face on UA-cam, got to be the most well known geeza within the 46 community!

DIFF RATIOS: the smaller number vs 1 means higher top speed, less acceleration. a 2.76 is much higher top speed than 3.73 but is way slower off the line. my stock O2A trans in my vr6 golf is 70mph at about 3k rpm on stock sized tires.

also make sure you do to the golf tee mod on the stock exhaust or make sure the flap opens easily in the muffler i did that mod to a 323ci and it sounded a bit nicer than with the stuck closed flap ps i jammed a metal rod to unstuck it to permanent open position :) and then put a screw in the vaccum hose for that flap

Done this conversion on my pals 330d e46. It completely transformed the car better mpg the lot. It's a mess about but worth it.

For the love of everything holy, check the Aux Belt Tensioner is the later 3 point mount hydraulic type. The earlier ones were two point mount concentric spring tension, and prone to failing. 750gms of ally lump flailing around the engine bay connected to the drive belt makes an enormous mess of everything. Speaking from experience of my 99 B3 3.3 doing that very thing.
The tensioners were often missed on Alpinas because the service bulletins didn't apply to them, only the regular cars.... despite them using the same peripherals. This also allowed the main dealer to deny any responsibility for fitting the older type.
Only other B3 3.3 thing to note is that it will eat its rear suspension bushes between services - the 3.3 puts out a lot more than that boggo 328/330 setup can really cope with.
