  • In this video, I'd like to demonstrate two simple ways you can fuse cylinders together in Blender using subd and union booleans.

Very well explained with precise information and without wasting time, straight to the point. After 2 years learning 3Dmax, I am returning to Blender (where I should never have left!) I will now follow your material and update myself.

Should've learned Rhino 3D which does both CAD and SubD modelling in 1 software.

Thanks in advance! Just last weekend I was running into that "pumpkin effect" and thought I'd just have to tweak it a bit and pretend I'd fixed it. I won't have time to work on anything for the next few days, but when I do, I think you just showed me how to fix it.
Thanks for the name, too. I will be calling it a Pumpkin Effect from now on. :)

It would be good to branch out and learn more about subd workflow and box modeling to understand what's happening there. Another way to fix the end caps would be to turn on subd, select both end caps of the cylinders, press i to inset, go in a bit and left click to confirm. Press i to inset again, go in a little further, set it again. Then delete the two ngons. Select just one edge and press ctrl+f, click grid fill. In the bottom left tab change the two settings until the faces look nice, then do the same to the other hole.

is there a way to offset cut without the use of meshmachine?

I also hate that I have to pay just to do this simple thing... This video is just a big advertisement for mesh machine, not a useful tutorial.

May I suggest a quicker method: 1.) Add 2 loop cuts to the length of the 90-degree X-rotated cylinder, Scale them on the Y to get size of the square. 2.) Choose the faces that comprise a square or rectangle. 3.) Inset, 4.) Extrude, 5.) scale the selected end faces with S,X,0. 6.) add 2 supporting edge loops around the cylinder and through the cube, Scale them on the Y. 7.) Inset the cylinder end caps to make supporting loops, as well as an inset on the face of the "cube", and you are mostly done in 7 steps, no $$ Add-ons required.

Can you do one where you join the cube to the cylinder where the flat end of the cylinder meets, rather than in the centre? That triangular style topology where the cube face meets the flat cylinder face would be an incredibly good topology to study.

BRUH. You don't need any addons to connect cylinders lol

    • @ddontyy

      Why?
CAD and Blender modelling techniques are used for different reasons with overlapping similarities, this ''argument'' shouldn't even be a thing anymore.
      It ain't the 1990s.

Don't waste your time with these guys. They give you terrible advice to sell their addons. If you do pay for their stuff they spam you with emails multiple times a day. If you unsubscribe from their emails they will delete your paid account.
