    Melissa so happy your spreading the word. I am an avid fan user. There is nothing grosser than using someone’s washroom and seeing furry bits peeping out. Or moving into a new home or apartment and discovering it hasn’t been cleaned since installation . Maintenance is always an easier job than letting it build. Thanks for great video as always.

    About a year ago my bathroom fan was rattling and filled with dust..making a god awful noise…Just vacuuming with a brush wasn’t enough.
    We needed to remove the cover, and wash it ..tighten the screws inside and remove all the caked in dust…
    Problem solved ! Now it’s much quieter and of course clean!
    Everything you said was spot on!
    And my personal tip…if you have a window in your bathroom…open it regularly and after a shower.. Fresh air circulation is key for preventing mold and drying out the humidity and dampness…

    I have always used my fan when I shower. I’m in a “new to me” house and I had to redo the bathroom. The fan is just a simple NuTone fan and I’ve dusted it, but I haven’t taken it down to wash. That’s now on my to do list!

    Perhaps you could expand this topic a bit in the future. I definitely need to clean the fan cover, if not the fan itself after throwing the correct circuit breaker (if the fan doesn't run, I got the right one). In addition, over time a pattern of gunk builds up on the ceiling. Would you have a way, probably involving vinegar, to eliminate this gunk while not damaging the ceiling? If so I'd really love to hear about it as I have a lot of vents with the same problem.

    Our fan is also a dehumidifier, I set the desired humidity level on the wall and the fan comes on and turns off as required, much like a furnace would. I do turn this feature off in cooler months as I find it makes the bathroom get a chill when actually bathing, but I turn it back on as I exit!

    😁 Yesssss, it is a must using the bathroom fan esp. when you are in an apartment because the humidity level is high. I was surprised you suggested to let it run for 60 minutes, that may solve some of the humid issues I go through. I seriously have not been able to figure out how to get the cover off, I inquired with the maintenance personal but no one usually knows how to get it off for cleaning purposes so I have been using my shower spray with vinegar and essential oil and give the fan a squirt to cut out the noise ( be sure to turn it off first!), it seems to work better and I can run it longer too after a squirt of spray, tea tree is a fav!

    Can't recall when/where I picked up this handy tip, but it works like a charm. Those white vent covers turn yellow over time, and applying a light coating of #2 or #3 hair bleaching processor creme and allowing it to sit for an hour or two then rinsing off will restore it back to its original white. Try it and be amazed.

I am going to give it a try to see if it has the metal clips shown in the video, I am sure it needs cleaned. I just use the shower spray recipe with vinegar and essential oils like tea tree and I turn it off give it a squirt then turn it back on, although I did not leave it run for 60 minutes. Great tips!

    • @jeniferj
      @jeniferj 2 роки тому +3

      I have the same switch. Yes I do leave it on for an hour with the door closed so that it forces the air to go through the fan. Mind you, if you're in a basement situation, I would also suggest using a dehumidifier if necessary. I found real quick whenever I moved into that the moisture seems to sit in the air regardless of a fan or not so having the dehumidifier really forces any excess moisture to come out of the bathroom and thus keeping it clean and mildew free. If you're worried about forgetting about leaving it on just set a timer on your phone

    • @mariesunga8942
      @mariesunga8942 2 роки тому +3

      I bought a small dehumidifier. Seems to work faster while leaving the fan/light switched on. I have no windows so the fan alone is not strong enough to suck up all the moisture. I think the dehumidifier I bought was about $20.

    Hi Melissa, I leave the exhaust fan running all the time ( I know, I know). The thing is that the bathroom produces too much condensation when shower is running and afterwards. Is it actually dangerous to leave the fan on for hours ? If so, what can I do in order to eliminate the humidity without having to leave the fan on all the time? Ventilation and opening a window dont work for me bc of the way the bathroom is placed in the house. Sorry my English is not the best btw. If applicable, change filter more frequently in heat/ac unit or get on property manager to change it more frequently.

    That was the easy part. How about cleaning the blades in the fan itself. So many of them, and so narrow. Or am I the only one who gets gunk in those blades? Does that mean I don't clean the exterior part often enough?

    I don't have a bathroom fan in my bathroom. I do have a window which I open every time I shower. I really want one but I don't think my landlord will approve. im the same way with the vent hood in the kitchen I must run that fan for at least sn hour total. smoke grease and steam in the kitchen makes me cranky lol 🤣

    Opening a window doesn't work as well as running a fan, so I always have my fan on during and after my shower.

    I actually don’t know where the fan in my bathroom is. I believe is behind the ceiling light but there’s no reasonable access point.

    Most need a bigger bathroom fan. You need to let it run for an hour after each shower.

      Where Melissa lives it's actually a building code that you must have a fan of a window that can open in the bathroom! If no fan, you're supposed to open the window for at least 20 mins after a shower or bath, which is difficult with the very cold winters.
