This is my preferred performance of this song since I first heard it a couple of years ago. No other artist hits that sweet spot in me with this song like Angelina Jordan does. Grandma Ellen, out.
Notice how, when the host gave Angelina the toys, Angelina stroked the back of the host. One would think it would be the other way round. Angelina is such an appreciative person, a girl with genuine warmth. She sets an example to us all.
Her timing is that of senior to singer. She learned it around the same time she was just building her own vocabulary. How do we learn to speak? Another wonderful reaction and comments Bob, love your Angelina reactions, maybe far and few between, I understand that, but always a joy to watch. Always nice to see a professional look at what this little girl can do with her voice. You are quite correct, she has studied all the great Jazz musicians from decades ago and has absorbed it all and then interprets all of that music knowledge to deliver these "not child like" performances. You mention the 'crack" in her voice, she has actually used that little nuance in other performances as well and you already know she is masterful at incorporating vocal fry and just the right amount of different vibratos to suit the song she is singing. There is no "mimicking" going on here, just pure talent and understanding of music, even at this age....she is a music genius well beyond her years. Cheers, stay well and look forward to more Angelina on your channel. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hey thanks so much Carl! I appreciate the kind words and thr great info shared here. Also thanks so much for your generous donation to the channel. I can’t thank you enough.
Fun fact .. listened to Louis A singing this many times .. it took Angelina to make it into a love song to me .. crazy !!! Greatings from an old Danish Dear and Angel 🌷🇩🇰❤️
Thanks for reacting to this amazing performance by Angelina, the Barefoot Angel. The guy on guitar is a musician Steve Conte: an accomplished American musician, songwriter, guitarist, music producer, and lead singer of the band Steve Conte NYC.
Angelina has a great ear, she listened to many singers from the past, then takes a song and presents the story, from her own interpretation, and invites us to join her to feel the moment. I don't think that it's something that can be taught, she was born to sing. Perhaps that's she likes this particular story - "fill my heart with song and let me sing forever more."
I never liked jazz when I was younger. I always associated it with Ella Fitzgerald singing “scat”. That was like what preceded rap. Now with Angelina I haven’t heard anything I don’t like. Her natural talents and good taste bring out the beauty in these songs. Don’t get me wrong, Ella had a fantastic voice and the songs without the running up and down the scales singing “ dooby didly do” we’re great. The same goes for Frank Sinatra with the intense “Swing” style.
Hey Ron whatever or whoever can get you to appreciate Jazz us doing an awesome job. Not all jazz is for everyone it’s such a unique and acquired taste. Thankfully there are so many artists like Angelina who can touch hearts using this amazing style and genre. Thanks for watching!
Great reaction Bob. I love how she brings her own flavor into the mix of these classics. I see where many that didn't like jazz do so now with Angelina singing it and I believe it's because it's infused with a mix of different genre styles and past artists making it a new and up to date sound that no one has heard before. She has opened exactly the opposite of Pandora's box which is Virtuous and Joy.
Here she is singing the same song at 12. ua-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/v-deo.html She opened the concert for Quincy Jones 85th birthday celebration. The video is of the rehearsal but the audio is said to be from the concert. Don’t know if that’s true. In any case, it’s a masterpiece.
@@bobcieslinski Equally impressive is LOVIN’ YOU at 11 1/2. ua-cam.com/video/qvmrvEdYSOY/v-deo.html She opened the concert with it. There’s another good version that includes the long band intro. Band is terrific. That whole concert is great. Also not to be missed from that concert is CRY ME A RIVER. Includes a great trombone solo. ua-cam.com/video/jV8HIVL2VDE/v-deo.html You’ll be amazed at the maturity and mastery of her instrument at that age. Hope you’ll save them for a reaction.
This is one of the true gems in Angelina's career. Here we see a little girl, wrapped up in her own world, just doing what she enjoys doing best. She hardly seems to know she is performing for the rest of us. Does she know how good she is? She knows she's good because she just won a major talent contest, but does she know how CRAZY good she is? I don't think she does here. The innocence, along with the brilliance of her performance, makes this moment special.
There are videos of the rehearsals that preceded this performance. She had to work with the guitarist several times for him to get the pacing and tempo that Angelina wanted. And then, they did several “sound checks” in the studio before the audience arrived to get the mix right. So, while Angelina makes it look “so easy” as she just starts singing, she put in a long hard day of work to make this performance the special event that we see here. A true professional at 8 years of age!
Bob, if you want to hear a song you’ve hear a hundred times, and hear it in a whole new way with a whole new meaning check it Angelinas “you were always on my mind”, she’s singing it about her grandfather. Have a box of tissues handy
Fly Me To The Moon is sort of Angelina's signature song, she did it more often than any other title, with different arrangements, from just a guitar via jazz and big bands to orchestra. I think there are videos of her doing it on more than 30 occasions, including rehearsals and fragments. Here is a playlist with 15 performances (incl. also some rehearsals): ua-cam.com/play/PLddfS789jBCo_nnnQYEXccTvuX8PcoSqt.html I'd recommend you look at some she did with jazz bands, and definitely the Quincy Jones 85th birthday concert version with an orchestra. She later mentioned that as being one of her career highlights (she was twelve there).
@@bobcieslinski I don't believe this playlist contains the music video that she did at age 10 the one where she is at the salt flats. It is my favorite that she does...
@@charlesallison146 You are right, that is not in there, for a couple of reasons: It's essentially the same single guitar arrangement as seen in several already included life performances. I in general prefer life performances to music videos. Then it is not clear, when it was recorded. It was published when she was ten, but she looks younger in the video. So it does nothing to document her progression But it is cerrtainly a very nice music video with great studio recording quality, and for that reason it is included in some other playlists I have.
I particularly like the music version precisely because it was directed by her grandmother Mery Zamani. It’s as much a work by Mery as it was Angelina. Angelina has said of her Grandma… she’s my “inspiration”, my “best friend”, my “everything.” I believe her “Fly Me to the Moon” video was filmed in the American southwest, possibly in California. I surmise that it was created in either 2014 or early 2015 according to how old she looks. I’m thinking it was possibly created before her “When You’re Smiling” music video. To isolate her live performances only is a good way to track her progress. From my viewpoint however, I consider Angelina’s creativity extends beyond her musical capabilities. She had mentioned when she was older that she took part in creating the story boards for her music videos. I wonder if this was the first time she was taught by her Grandma about the planning and direction of creating a music video. Another thing I absolutely love about her FMTTM music video are the iconic images that were created from it, particularly her outstretched arms embracing the moon. ❤️ 🌙 @AJ playlists… that might be another good playlist to create, one showing her progress in creating her music videos. 😉😊
@@peterhormell1511 Well, I do have a playlist for her artistic or story-telling music videos: ua-cam.com/play/PLddfS789jBCo3yMr7iciJBeTGWIbm4Rdl.html It contains some fan created videos as well, but as her own videos can be easily identified via the cannels their are hosted on, it still sort of fulfills the purpose you described.
Hi, Bob! Thank you for another grand reaction to Angelina. She is worth every nanosecond you spend festering her on your channel. I'm getting "old in the tooth" and being a selfish old man would like to see many more reactions from you of Angelina but am fearful of not being around for many more unless you see able to react to her more often. I do realise that, as with many Reactors, it is difficult for you to satisfy the fans of the many artists you feature but ask that you do consider my request, please.
Hi Albert! It’s not easy because with my full time teaching schedule it doesn’t leave much extra time for making these videos. It still takes me about 3 hours a video. I’ve got about 160 I teach at school and then another 8 who I teach private lessons to. So I try to get 2 videos a week done. Just doing the best I can. Thanks for your patience!
@@bobcieslinski Thank you for your prompt reply. Ah! As a retiree of many years, I'd forgotten the pressure of the workplace. It is some comfort that you will still be reacting to Angelina's performances long after I have expired, and until I do, I know I will enjoy every one I watch.
I wish you watched this from the start. The host interview Angelina and she really shows that she is just a shy little girl. The contrast when she starts to sing is incredible, she is transported to another plane, then as soon as she finishes she becomes a sweet little girl again! Very moving!
On her Patreon she shared a BTS video where she patiently sang the song repeatedly so that the guitar player could catch her rendition and interpretation. It was fascinating to see. Angelina has had a beautiful sound to her voice from the very first time she went on NGT. There are older videos still where she showed great promise at an even younger age. Apart from being very talented Angelina is also working very hard to get better and better. Her vocal toolbox is now so rich and full and she still has something like 8 years to go before her voice is fully matured. She also did a wonderful but quite different rendition of this song when she sang it on Quincy Jones’ birthday party in the O2 Arena: ua-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/v-deo.html A more fluttering, whimsical interpretation in the arrangement Quincy made for Frank Sinatra. Yeah listening to her is soul food and makes you feel better. I think her wonderful personality plays an important role in that as well :-)
Thanks for another great reaction to & appreciation of another amazing performance by Angelina - at age 8. I wish that you hadn't cut off the short interview before she starts singing. (That's when the host asks Angelina about recently winning NGT & asks her how old she was when she started singing.) You did comment on her pronunciation. Pretty amazing that even though English is her 2nd or 3rd language, she still is amazingly articulate in English. Looking forward to more of your Angelina reactions. I still highly recommend all 4 of her NGT performances - starting with her audition singing Gloomy Sunday - at age 7. Also - another amazing performance while she was still 8 is What A Difference A Day Makes. And - whether you react separately to it or not - in order to get to know her better as a person, you need to watch her interview with Anne Lindmo, NRK TV (Eng sub) just after Angelina had released a book at age 9 (making her the youngest published author in Norway).Angelina reads from her diary back when she was 6 & shares why she always performs barefoot. Thank you.And may GOD continue to watch over & bless Angelina Jordan.

You’re at the beginning of an exciting journey the culmination of which may well be the realisation that Angelina is one of the most gifted musicians to grace our presence in many a year! Sir, her newest video is "Bad Valentine" Piano Diaries JAZZY version. There she uses almost all her "tools" to sing this song. I am pretty sure you will enjoy it. She is now a real grown up ant a tall one 6,1 ft tall. She and her family, so it was said, are trying to get out of her label. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on UA-cam. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The vast majority of the prize money was donated to charity benefitting poor children. Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. The album can be purchased on iTunes or Amazon. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter and allowed Angelina to copyright her version. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on UA-cam. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On UA-cam, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. In December 2022, Angelina performed at the Asian American Awards in Los Angeles. On 2/27/23, Angelina performed at the FIFA Awards ceremony in Paris, France, with a viewing audience in the millions. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. I encourage others to use this biography to help educate others about the love, empathy, magic and beauty that is Angelina Jordan Astar and her unique music.
Hello Great reaction. I really like Jazz and I love Angelina Jordan. Your last name sounds Polish - do you have Roots from Poland? Greetings from Poland😀😀😀😀😀
Hey so nice to hear from Poland. Yes my family ancestors came from Poland. I heard many stories growing up and my grandparents still spoke Polish especially when they didn’t want us to know what they were saying. Lol. Angelina is a special special young lady and musician.
Angelina did not win AGT. That said, her performance of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is such an incredible thing of beauty. Her voice, her arrangement, her sensitivity to the original song and it's creators. If you haven't already listened to this one you may find it of some interest. I enjoy your technical comments and analysis, looking forward to more from you.
You might really enjoy AJ's version of this song that she did for Quincy Jones for his 85th birthday celebration. It was with his orchestra using his original arrangement for Frank Sinatra. Here is the rehearsal video with the sound from her actual performance for Quincy Jones: ua-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/v-deo.html
Her grandmother is Iranian but love jazz that you’re 45 years all engineers more so she introduced her to jazz and she can talk to you like duck to the water in love the sound of it and she said it was Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong,m Billie Holiday, which means the world to her. I actually discovered Whitney Houston when she died six years before she’s born but she still on UA-cam as you started her that’s what you see she meant tribute to her grandfather is Japanese. Her dad is Swedish.
She has done this song many times. It's gets better every time. The current pinnacle I am aware of is when she performed at age 12 at O2 arena for Quincy Jones opening birthday performance at his request. This link below is actually the rehearsal video. The audio is mostly from the live concert. Do not believe there is any quality released video from 2018 Concert itself. ua-cam.com/video/OMkwoqUNNkE/v-deo.html
You talked about how she pronounces her words. Do you know that English is her third language out of five? She was in a recording studio at age six reading the words and singing her song in perfect English.
Just one more time go to Norway’s got talent 2014 jazz songs for go. Hear her saying jazz but she can’t stand in the girl in the mirror. I am cc go give them jazz Anna Jordan at age of seven second jazz know it’s got talent. Try that one time.

Cheers, stay well and look forward to more Angelina on your channel. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Thanks for subbing Johannes!
Nice point about the musician.
Thanks Les great info here!
A seasoned pro at 8. No less amazing than seeing an 8 year old on a professional sports team.
Agreed
Thanks Abbie! She really is special and such a joy to listen to.
Great reaction Bob.
She puts in the perfect amount of inflections. At only 8 tears old. Amazing

Fred I totally agree with in. These are fantastic points. You can see it on her face and she interacts with Rosie. She just loves to sing.
Wow that’s incredible thanks for thr info Adair!
She performed this song at Quency Jones 85 birthday celebration And was personally invited by Quency Jones at the O2 Arena in London, it on UA-cam

Check out my channel. I’m pretty sure I made that video. Hope you enjoy it.
Fly Me To The Moon is sort of Angelina's signature song, she did it more often than any other title, with different arrangements, from just a guitar via jazz and big bands to orchestra. I think there are videos of her doing it on more than 30 occasions, including rehearsals and fragments. Here is a playlist with 15 performances (incl. also some rehearsals): ua-cam.com/play/PLddfS789jBCo_nnnQYEXccTvuX8PcoSqt.html
I'd recommend you look at some she did with jazz bands, and definitely the Quincy Jones 85th birthday concert version with an orchestra. She later mentioned that as being one of her career highlights (she was twelve there).
Thanks Aj playlists for thr list. !
So it does nothing to document her progression
But it is cerrtainly a very nice music video with great studio recording quality, and for that reason it is included in some other playlists I have.
I particularly like the music version precisely because it was directed by her grandmother Mery Zamani. It’s as much a work by Mery as it was Angelina. Angelina has said of her Grandma… she’s my “inspiration”, my “best friend”, my “everything.”
I believe her “Fly Me to the Moon” video was filmed in the American southwest, possibly in California.
@AJ playlists… that might be another good playlist to create, one showing her progress in creating her music videos. 😉😊
@@peterhormell1511 Well, I do have a playlist for her artistic or story-telling music videos: ua-cam.com/play/PLddfS789jBCo3yMr7iciJBeTGWIbm4Rdl.html

Oh I watched it Angela but I didn’t think everyone else wanted to watch that extra 2 minutes. It was awesome seeing it.
I think her wonderful personality plays an important role in that as well :-)
Thanks Bart for thr awesome info! She is special that’s for sure.
The first part of that the program she asked her how long she’s been saying, since she started very young, with age, one and a half singing on jazz
She did this for Quincy jone 85 birthday you have to hear her at 12 year old.
Thanks Gregory! I did watch that beginning and it was awesome. I cut it out because I wanted to get right into the music for everyone. I did leave the snippet with Rosie at thr end because it really showed the kind of person Angelina is and I loved that.
@@bobcieslinski Thank you. You'll notice that the plush toys were all Disney characters. Even at the age of 8, Disney wanted to sign her. Yes Bob, you have to listen to the "Grown up" Angelina (12 yo) sing this following the arrangement that Quincy Jones wrote for Frank Sinatra's hit version. Even if you can't do it for a reaction, you owe it to yourself to listen to the link provided by Kevin. Fly Me To the Moon is Angelina's favorite song & there are many different versions on YT from ages 7-17 & no 2 are alike.

She is so special. Wow!
*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money.
PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial
Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old.
Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield”
In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released.
