Polychromos are more oil based and they are a layering pencil. To blend you do light multiple layers. It’s like taking red cellophane and placing it over yellow cellophane and you would get orange. Whereas prismas being more wax based when you blend it is like mixing cake batter. Prismas are more smooshy when you color with them. That isn’t a bad thing, just different. I have both brands and I like the polys better. I don’t have the annoying wax bloom from them and their quality control is much better (no broken leads, cracked casings, uncentered leads etc.). Prismas have a huge range of colors which make them very convenient. There are positives and negatives to both brands and different brands of pencils work better on different paper. That alone makes it nice to have different pencils for different situations.

@@nancymensch1087 that makes me want to get more of the polychromos. But I have so many prismas, I think I need to work my way through those first. I’ve been using them a lot lately in my sketchbook

FYI- the picture on the box was made with the previous months box. So this was created with the charcoal box from June. BTW I'm new to your channel but have been enjoying your enjoying videos. Keep it up!

@@ryannemillard7483 Ah! Okay. I was wondering how that worked because the month that the watercolor supplies came, there was also a watercolor design on the box. They must’ve done watercolors two months in a row.

Polychromos have less wax and more pigment, they are pretty much the highest end color pencils you can get, designers like to use them. I have only a few that I bought used in secondhand; I like them because they cover most of the surface and I don't need to blend them much.
Your unboxing videos are always instructive and honest, thank you for that! 🤍🤍🥰

@@AleksdeArt oh! Good to know! I don’t use colored pencils much lately, so I’ve been sticking with the prismacolors. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about polychromos but this was the first time I tried them.

I really like your art, the orange slice and the rose stencils look really nice.
The blender is just an alcohol blender, so if you have a clear blender marker from a set of like Ohuhu markers it'll work exactly the same. And Polychromos are oil based and harder than prismacolor, i think I like them more personally, but I use my prismas way more often just cause I have a bigger set.
I love this box cause the only polychromos I have are from previous boxes (the 12 set came in the special holiday box last year) and no duplicate colors. The green paper is a bit... odd, but I think I can make it work, couldn't find a paper thickness listed anywhere on their website either, but I tested watercolor on it with a lot of water and it held up okayish. I'll probably toss it in my purse since its so tiny and sturdy.

@@bjustbee thank you - I really struggled to come up with a fancy piece of art this time. I think it was mostly because it was a smaller sized sketchbook. I think it’s a good size to throw in your bag and use with just a pencil or pen. Well, for me anyway. Yes, the green pages threw me off for sure. Oh! I didn’t connect that the alcohol blenders I get with my alcohol markers would work in the same way 🤣
That’s good that you didn’t get and duplicates from your previous box! I think I will stick with my prismas. I have a large set, and I do love them, so no need to start collecting another type - I have enough trouble with buying art supplies 🤣🤣
