If anyone is watching in 2024, Al Abbas is based off the Armenian-Lebanese LA chain Zankou Chicken. This is obvious by the workers' yellow shirts and how obsessive people get once they try Zankou. Famed and Pulitzer-Prize winning LA food journalist Jonathan Gold (RIP) explicitly stated that Larry based Al Abbas off Zankou. The best Zankou, in my opinion, is the original on Sunset Blvd. at Normandie in Little Armenia (East Hollywood). But you'll find Zankous all over LA, from West LA (where Curb takes place) to Glendale and Pasadena.
I’m vegan but if I was a chicken I might be persuaded to end it all on a spit, slathered in spices, awaiting that garlic sauce, pickled turnip, and pita. :)
