We just switched to The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading after seeing you mention it ❤ We already use Jessie Wise’s First Language Lessons and love it so idk why it took us so long to try. So far so good! Thanks!

We really love the pace it builds as well as the simplicity of it. I would think those two pair really well together 😊

2nd grade coming so soon!!! How can it be??! That's so cool that Apologia math has been such an awesome fit for your family. Laminating the game pieces from the All About Reading activity books for re-using them sounds like a great idea!

I have a son who is also going into second grade next year and I feel like I have a very similar style to you when it comes to curriculum choices.
I also use apologia math and it is our absolute favorite curriculum by far. So much fun!
I’ve been thinking about using beautiful feet books next year as well. I think that would be a good fit for us but haven’t committed just yet.
I have to look into the survival guide from the Waldock way. It looks so fun!! 😊
Looks like you guys will have a fun year next year

I think Around the World will work well for him. We used a geography based art curriculum this year and it was his favorite thing. I will probably add in fun videos and more information about the country along with it.

I have both AAR1 and the ordinary parents guide and idk which one to choose. I like the simplicity and to the point style of the ordinary parents guide and I like the “fun” aspect of AAR but it seems like a lot. Great picks btw!

It’s hard to choose. I have found reading curriculum to be the hardest to figure out personally. You could always try AAR since you have it and see if you find it to be too much or not. I know that the resale of AAR is really good. Then you would have the ordinary parents guide to fall back on

I loved apologia, my kids however are not math "activity" people. The want the lesson, the work, then done. I wish so bad it worked for them :(

Sometimes we skip activities with my older daughter depending on how she is feeling. I love that the lesson isn’t solely reliant on the activity for teaching.

How did the Abeka Reading work for y’all? I see you’re using something different next year.

It worked really well for quite awhile. It really helped him break the words up into chunks to read it faster. We did hit a wall in the handbook for reading at one point and couldn’t get past it. We opted to try as different approach and it is working well for us at this point. I think Abeka is a really solid program for sure and recommend it still. Sometimes pivoting is necessary though for kids to help things click better. Hope this helps!
