    40 years ago I had a giant topographic map of Canyon Lands National Park region on my wall for over a decade, I would trace out all the faint, poorly marked trails, sites and features and wonder about them. Years later when Google Earth came out, I painstakingly followed all those routes via satellite images and it was thrilling to "see" what that old map so poorly outlined...Pin pointing your video locations have taken that pleasure to a much higher level...thank you so much for your efforts, I will share your channel with all my friends...

    Just watching the first 1:20 I'm thinking nobody does it better, and then I'm thinking isn't that a Carly Simon song, and the whole thing hasn't even started yet... Amazing pictures, great film, thanks Todd for another wonderful Christmas special, and all the best for the New Year!

    Very well done. I recognized Black Bear pass, and the Loves' in Green River. I've stopped several times at that Loves on one of my westward overlanding trips, but never thought that it was accessible by plane!

      Thank you! It’s been frustrating. UA-cam often cuts my views in half a time or two per video. And the last video I did with monetization off, the video got 10-15 times the views! Some bizarre stuff going on, I think I got myself on their crap list somehow?!

    Beautiful country. After learning to fly I got bit really hard with the geology bug. This video has it all. Layered deposits, up thrusts, a really cool shot of some water gaps... It's pretty awe inspiring to get out into God's Creation.

    I know I asked you about your camera location for those shots looking forward, but I remain confused. That line of rivets reminds me of the rivets that hold my wing tips on and I just can’t get that picture out of my head. I found a place at 12:02 in this video that shows the camera and how it’s pointed, still, the rivets look so much like the rivets on my wing tips and I still keep wondering how you can get the wing tip to look like you are flying sideways but still flying forward. I’m probably the only one that is confused by that as I have no rivets on the leading edge of my aircraft, but do have rivets that attach the wing tip to the wing. Maybe some day you can take a good photo of the setup to help this old fart out. Fantastic scenery. Wish I could get out there some time, but it’s kind of impractical at my age.

    • @GravityKnightFlying
      @GravityKnightFlying  Рік тому +1

      That mount is on the wingtip, right behind the position/nav lights. Riveted to the Aluminum "tip bow". Those rivets/screws are on the badlands stol kit leading edge cuff. And you can see the little fence I made on the end of the cuff. It looks a little wonky because of the cameras wide angle lens... things close to the edge of the frame get distorted quite a bit.

    • @gapster46
      @gapster46 Рік тому +1

      @@GravityKnightFlying I remember the video where you installed the leading edge, but the rivets always make me think of the rivets on my wing tips as I have no rivets on my leading edge. As long as those rivets are in the video, to me, it will probably always look like you are flying sideways. I’m sure no one else but me sees that. 🙂

    What route do you cross the Rockies?

    • @GravityKnightFlying
      @GravityKnightFlying  Рік тому +1

      Usually, high and direct or close to it. Minor zig zagging for what i see in the windscreen (clouds, storms, visibility issues etc.) If windy, way high, above the turbulence, and get across fast. Going West this can be a long flight though fighting strong (but smoother) headwinds. It becomes a balancing act between lower and faster but rougher, and high and slow. Usually still faster to stay pretty high and direct than zig zagging all over the place and getting beat up. Coming back east I've had 175mph ground speeds up high. Very quick flight coming home if I get up real high. Only are factor for route is if I need fuel. I've managed to never touch down on pavement with this plane (since it has bushwheels...) so that sometimes plays a role in route.
