Incredible footage from a criminally under-documented piece of coal country railroading. The West Virginia Secondary past Alloy heading up to Fola, Swiss and the NF&G is one of my favorite pieces of railroad in the country. Very difficult to photograph these days, as High Power Mountain is the only active loader up that way. However I have heard rumors about Fola reopening on the Vaughn RR, some track-work had already been done so fingers crossed.
I was lucky enough to see a train of empties headed up to High Power Mountain two Septembers ago. Unfortunately, I was not positioned to grab any pictures or video because I was paddling on the Gauley River at the time.
Totally awesome, captivating video. Majestic SD40-2s to the fore! And, looked like a few clean old SD40s, also. Some great scenery and camera angles. A great insight into that region of the country and it's economic engine.
An area that never really got on my radar during Conrail. Good coverage. Was CSX and NS already dividing rolling stock in 96, seems early for that. Seen some patched NYC ConGons in the consist.
7:42 that person lost a paper or a bag they had in their hands due to the wind of the train! 😂 i wonder who that person was, and where they are today. i wonder how crazy it would be if that person saw this footage of themselves in 1996 and they had no idea about it for years 😳
