50 Miles of Grit! Road Apple Roubaix 2024

- The Road Apple Roubaix kicks of cycling event season for me. I always have a blast at this country road/gravel ride out in Garretsville, OH. This year's conditions made for a sloppy ride but the new 50 mile route was rad. I rode my Raleigh Tamland 2 and was happy with my performance for the shape on in. Got to talk to so many bike friends!

It was good to see so many friends and get to cheer everyone on at the beer station. We are hoping to help grow the Road Apple for years to come!
Heck yeah! I love it every year!
ur a bear i know it was cold that day but fun always , thank you
Excellent video! Glad to finally see you in person. This was my FIRST organized ride, and I'm 60+ and had a great time. Took the Fat Caad and no regrets, especially on the Headwater Slop. Looks like I spent 18 -19 minutes socializing at the stops, and I'm okay with that. Many kind people on the ride and in the community. Did the 26 this year, and was a good decision, but now I know I can do the 50 (current health, lol). Nothing takin' for granted. Thanks to you and Yeti for inspiring me to do this. Loved it! Nice capture of the ride. Thanks for the Fitzwater swag!!!
Thanks - so glad we got to meet! Sorry if I was all over the place - always so many people to chat with at this one! (always been like that here even before anyone watched the videos).
Glad you enjoyed it out there! The camaraderie of events and the "war stories" after are my favorite thing about them.
Cheers - see you again soon!
Nice video! My son participated for the first time this year and really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing😊
Thanks!
Thanks for recognizing the "group from Pittsburgh"! It was a great ride and there'll likely be more of us next year!
Heck yeah! I'm also hoping to get out that way to ride again soon. Had a great ride with some of the guys in Pittsburgh late last summer.
Nice video as always. Really appreciate your content. It was super nice to meet you. Catch you at black fork!
Nice to meet you too! See you at Blackfork!
That was such a fun event I was so pumped that I was able to do the ride this year!! That mud was like peanut butter!! It killed my legs!! Great job!!
I love it - such a cool community! Thanks - cheers!
What a great fun day out. I do like the idea of an audax over a flat out race. It's more fun to appreciate you've all ridden a tough ride rather than "who's quickest" And beer, you can't go wrong with beer at the end of a ride. I miss Carlsberg sponsoring races 😢
Having a beer sponsor is great! Nothing like a free one right after the ride!
@@TimFitzwater Yes indeedy, Carlsberg sponsored a mountain bike series in the 80's. £10 got you a fun ride on the Saturday, race on Sunday and a free beer n pasta Saturday night, good times.
Looks like so much fun
It was!
Loved your heel kick on the runway at the end. Maybe bike gear fashion show time?
Ha - Thanks! Maybe instead of another bike show/bike swap we need to do the fashion show idea - we can make a runway out there!
That does sound like a good value and a fun ride! I’m always happy to chip in for a fun charity ride, even if it seems a little expensive. I’ve helped put one on, and they ain’t cheap!
I bet they aren't. I definitely don't mind paying for decent events especially charity ones. I do pick and choose though.
It was a great day!
It seems like you're feeling better Tim, and I'm glad to see that.
Great video!
Thanks! I am - just down with one of those quick stomach bugs then a couple days to catch up on energy from not eating…
Looks like fun. Thanks for taking us another ride.
It was a muddy blast - cheers!
Hey...hey...you gave me the opening statement of the recap! Nice. Good work.
I was holding the GoPro on my bars and didn't realize it was filming... "what is this garbage piece of footage?" ...then I listened and was like, "oh - the intro to the video!!"
Thanks so much for saying "hello"!
Cheers!
I didn't think you were filming. When the video started, thought...that sounds strangely familiar.
omg that box of donuts.
There were a bunch of them! Like 6 huge boxes!
The ride looked awesome . Glad you had a good ride. Hope to ride myself some time.
Thanks! You Should come up for it!
What a sloppy, wet, muddy ride haha. Somehow i looked 10x worse than anyone else i'd seen. But what a blast! Good to see everyone! See y'all in 2 weeks!
It was funny the different levels of muddy people were - kinda strange!
Looking forward to seeing you again!
Looks awesome, thanks for sharing your experience. Love those muddy, fun, friendly race/rides.
Yeah - the weather kind of made it - we have all summer to ride in the sun!
Cheers!
I told you that jacket got to go😂. Funny enough, I ordered a puffy (for those below 60° days in FL), and when arrived and I opened it my wife laughed and said it was a women’s jacket because of the color. I had to prove to her it was a men’s jacket and it wasn’t burgundy like her jacket, it was Oil Red. I’ll probably never need to wear it but no worries, yours is still far prettier than mine!
Ha - love it! Funny thing is I think the jacket is the only part Erin didn't mind.😂
I was looking forward to this! Good seeing you on Saturday.
Good to see ya!😎
Caught the Gravel Badass....what a trooper! BigRon092 (yeah, YT killed my other channel with 310 subscriptions, ugh).
Yeah - so glad she was out there!
Great ride, and video!
Thanks man!
Thanks Tim..for sharing the fun , and haute couture , on the catwalk !
When ya got it ya got it!🎩.😂
Less than $50 that is good. unPAved was $300 in our area. Never doing that again. Anyway, Road Apple is a cool name. Congrats on your ride.
Organized rides are getting expensive - have to pick and choose what is worth it.
Yeah - Road Apple is no joke of a name - definitely in Amish Country!
Thanks!
Another great video
Thanks!
You may already know this, but eating Tums is a good quick cure for leg cramps.
I actually didn't - I had never had my quads cramp before.
They looked like they was having fun out there. I rode up to Garrettsville that day and watched but never did a group ride like that. I'm still healing from broken leg but maybe next year I shall attempt to ride it but I'd have to get there early to charge my battery first since its a 12 mile or so ride into town.
What is your range?
You should ride it and hang - tons of fun!
About 20 miles on one bike and maybe 40 on the one with an extra battery, more if I peddle more but I'm healing from a broken leg still so I can't peddle too vigorously yet. I ride to Garrettsville all the time though and go to the Celler Door coffee shop.@@TimFitzwater
Great looking fun group! Love your turn on the "Mudway" gravel fashion king!!😆🤣
Ha! Thanks! 🎩
Recently left the midwest for the northwest with the gravel being a major motivator. To my surprise I miss a lot of things about the riding out there. For the most part everything is approachable. Out here in Oregon shit's steep as fuck. More of a hardcore crowd
I've never ridden out there but I would love to! There are a lot of short steep hills here - just nothing real long.
Not too crazy down there (feet)...lol
🦶🏼
Great video as always I’m going to try and do the Otis if not I’ll see u at blackfork
Thanks! I'll definitely be at both. (but scared as always of Blackfork - lol)
Maybe I should wait and do another ride as my first.Makes me a little nervous to do a ride with 850 people lol
@@TheSlowCyclist330 Yeah - or just hang back at the start a bit...
Great ride! Passed by you guys at packet pickup
Thanks! How was your ride? There were so many people there - I wish I had even more time to chat. I saw some friends IG posts but never even saw them in person.
Hardest bit of this year was figuring out how to dress and those last four miles were a battle lol
100% - Erin and I kept going back and forth on what to wear at the car. I finally went with my intuition and got lucky. Yeah - the end is wild but I kind of love it - just gotta hammer to get it done. Cheers!
Always awesome videos here, Tim.
Thank you ❤ 🚲 ❤🚲
🥰
Unfortunately I am very familiar with that smell......🤢😂
I believe it from your IG stories!!
