Great ten minutes because of how everything is set up especially the location. IMHO, maybe the best ten minutes of the movie in many ways. I can relate to much of this having gone to Cornell. The way Robbie is introduced is classic: "This is Robbie Gould. Yale medical school". I actually would get introduced like this sometimes and I hated it, but it makes me smile now. And then the way that Robbies friends and Patrick Swayze's friends are dealt with sets up the whole Ivy League/working class dynamic. There is so much I can relate to here.
This is my favorite movie of all time, everything down to the soundtrack and the cast is just perfect. I first watched this when I was around 8 with my grandma, now I’m 14 and I’ve watched it more than I’ve seen any movie. I could probably quote the entire movie at this point 😭
I can’t think of a movie that so accurately portrays this particular place and time. It got me researching the Catskills clubs and wishing my family had taken us there. We lived in Massachusetts and stayed at some smaller clubs in New Hampshire and Maine. Everything was really tightly scheduled and the old folks entertainment was exactly how they pictured it here.
For the time, to have a band of "mixed race" preforming at a venue was really, very progressive. @7:38 As the Owner of the venue Kellerman shows respect and honor to the Conductor by taking the stage with him. Again, remarkable for the time.
I don't get why Lisa is so conceited and everyone thinks she is so pretty. To me, Baby is adorable and much nicer. Or is Lisa just jealous of her? I like in the end when they're hugging each other.
Remember the emotional scene between Baby and her father where she apologized for lying to him but she said that he lied too? What was it that he lied about?
Because Baby said her father had alway taught her that everyone was the same and deserved to be respected; but the lie was that he really meant was for people like him and not lower-class people like Johnny. She also meant that he lied because he wanted her to change the world; but it would be on his terms, not her’s.
That ticked me off when Neal told Baby that they shouldn’t be showing off like that that won’t sell any lessons. I would’ve told him I don’t think they’re showing off. It takes a lot of talent and skill to dance like that. He won’t sell lessons.
The idea is that when they dance, they should show just enough to make everyone want to have lessons instead of going all out on the floor and risk discouraging and intimidating potential students who may think they’ll never be as good enough as Johnny and Penny.
I agree with that. I thought they both gave a phenomenal performance and they showed their real talents. It’s really just the way he said it, like especially when Baby said who’s that and his answer was “oh them!” I just think Neal was a little snot!
I didn't really get it at first watch because I was much younger. The class divide isn't helped by the way Max runs the place. The owner seeks out prep school boys to be the face of the resort (probably to help them make good connections) because they go to Ivy League he just assumes they have natural class. They're the only ones allowed to have relationships with the guests because they're of the same class. The entertainment staff he assumes are scum and not allowed relationships. Makes me think how he treats the actual servants who run the place (maids, cooks, janitors, housekeepers, etc.) We see a divide between Baby and her sister, both have the same Dad but Baby is the favourite likely because she's Daddy's little girl but not hyperfeminine and ditsy like the sister. All very interesting.
The important lesson is that you should watch your mouth against Patrick swazyze Robbie Gould because he can cause all sorts of trouble tempers and other things so next time don't be a smart mouth or he could possibly knock some senses out of you even if he doesn't or does get caught or fired from his job.

Penny's back bend in the opening of her and Johnny is incredible 😮

Everything looks so good in the movies!❤
A good friend gave me the tape when it first came out and to this day is one of my favorite movies 😊❤
Excellent.
I like the forshadowing of the dancer stopping with baby's dad, "the man of her dreams". As he ended up saving her life.

It’s a movie! Don’t get so bothered by something that isn’t reality.

Hello.... Newman
Baby has phenomenal hearing.
Only one voice over the movie. Kind of odd.
