I picked one of these up this summer and unfortunately have not been able to paddle it much. However, I found that bringing the seat back to one mark behind center works well for me. In the center or one mark forward, I had a hard time getting the edges to release and got that locked in feeling of the Indra, which is not ideal here in the PNW. With the seat slightly back, the boat is very nimble, fast, easy to get the bow up and paddles very well in technical whitewater. The stern has just the right amount of volume to prevent unintended squirts, but still allows the paddler to slip it through the water when needed. I was very surprised at how stiff the boat in this video is compared to mine. My boat DEFINITELY deforms when I put weight on to it, by a surprising amount for a new boat. There is no way I'd want to stand on my boat like Wade did here. I would guess that Prijon skimped on the amount of plastic that went into the mold when my boat was formed. I think they are playing up the reputation of their plastic being bomber and may have made the decision to go lighter on the plastic to keep the overall weight down. Prijon also could changed some things on the production line between runs, which could be why my boat is bendy-er, but I'd bet my left nut that my boat weighs less and has a lower hull thickness than the one in this video.
Thanks, I was hoping for a review of the Beast. Looking forward to the on water review. I'm just starting with white water kayaking and used the Prijon Beast during my 5 days beginner course this summer. Can't make any comments about characteristics compared to other kayaks because its the only white water kayak i have ever sat in. The only thing i can say that outfitting felt comfortable even after 4 hours on the water with just a short lunch break in between.
Btw. it is available in 3 colors right now but Prijon announced another color for 2025. They also announced that there will be a new white water kayak, the Prijon Rizz if i remember correctly.
Got this boat and after some modification to the outfit it works well for me. I've added big foam like the stock one under the hippads and 3cm foam to the hookers to push my knee outside. In the first generation of cocaine and pike there was a big mounting plate for the hookers and it was very stiff comparing to the new pr-x
I noticed that you say that it is stiff. I have one of the first ones in the US and mine flexes and deforms pretty easily. When you stood on it did it flex at all? You then went and pressed it in but said that it still felt tough.
one little thing the loop at the back of the seat can be used to lower the overall position of the backband, as for me I used my Puffy Steeze always with the lowest position possible, and here it's not done with some sort of pulling system but you can use differen loops for different position. Usually it's ob the highest position when it arrives, if you put the backband out of the upper loop it's kinda in a middle position and the loops down at the seat pull them down for low position,... for me I love to have more freedom of movement.
I've owned and paddled all the newer Prijon creek boats since the Pure and this one blows them all away. Currently own 2 tornados, 2 flys, 2 hurricanes, Athlete, Delirious, Release, LUV, Pike, Cocaine, and Curve Creek (and an eskimo cerro). I've had the Beast since June and it's just so smooth and nimble on the water. I liked the previous version of the outfitting a little better in the Pike/Cocaine/Curve, but the foam seat is really comfortable. I actually like the thigh hooks a lot, and feel locked in despite the flex. I had issues in with seat track breaking in the Cali, Curve, and Cocaine. This one feels better, but wish it was a better design to actually hold a water bottle or throw rope in place.
My friend has one, he made multiple class 5 drops look easy, just great, scorch (med vs Large vs X) vs OG vs reactor vs code vs stoke vs beast vs what class V boat should I buy?
I made the switch this year to a beast from a zet toro, i was kinda dissapointed in the outfitting in the beast, was having a hard time adjusting it so i fit properly but after a bit of a glued foam to the sides it works wounder, i got a big dent in the side from a small class 2 rapid so I would say that the zet is a lot more durable, wade how the hell can u sit in that kayak with the foot pad so close ? I’ve got it set like 4 clicks from max and it’s almost to close for me 😅I’m not even that long I’m 180 cm
I found those rivets around the cockpit Rim interfere with the skirt and allow for water to seep in. I paddled the Cali and even though the boat never cracked it felt like it had a crack because so much water got in. Let us know if you find something different with this boat.
@@josephmyers64 same was my Problem when I use "cheap" skirts, actually my workaround is a IR Rand Skirt (or you could also use the good Level Six one I guess). But yeah it's kinda annoying get your point, but I can say they are dry with the right skirt.
Im a sea kayaker getting into WW. Can someone give a brief exlpanation of the thin wave deflector and the rail edge. I get that tbe wave deflector deflects waves, but I mean it's not to keep a wave from splashing you in the face, does it help move the bow up and around or over a wave? And the long edge rail, is that for holding an edge when leaning and slicing, or holding an edge when surfing oncoming water? Thanks
The wave deflectors on this are way too small in my opinion. But on the reactr they are deep and I use them for direction turning the bow when hitting a hole or wave
Not sure why there is foam pillars inside the boat, my HTTP Topo is pushing 30 years old with no oil-canning and I can still stand on it without any foam pillars inside. Seems excessive or they got cheap with the plastic like that ridiculous tin foil bulkhead. On a side note those hip pad rivets are guaranteed to rip out (either out of the hip pad or out of the boat) within the first six months in my opinion.
I think it's because you got a very different design plus because of the more overall plastic than for example a topo they use a I guess a little thinner thickness to save some weight,...it's still HTP though, super tough and also the market demands them a little (can be quite handy in some piton situation also boat won't get crushed to soon even with a lot of pressure over time). I use a Party Pike with the same outfitting for instructing (5 days a week all summer) and I took out the front foam pillar to spare even more weight,...still very solid so I guess it's really more of market pleasing and extra assurance ..... and nope the hip pad rivets don't even make a little appearence to make a move) they are still solid as heck you have to think that there is also not really movement on these.
The walls are there mostly for floatation even if they are not really needed for support or not. Some of the older Prijon don’t have anything. And I really like that they have started adding foam walls to the kayaks now.

He made it look almost easy

@@WadeHarrison meaby I'll make a short clip what with the mods that works for me.
Great design. I liked it more than Indra, Superskipper, & Reactr
Wow that’s a Solid line up right there. And this kayak surprised me how good it was.
and it is Yellow!
😂 river beast color

Oh that’s very interesting maybe they did back off the plastic on some and others they went all in. Would be interesting to weigh them side by side

As a guy who owns 4 Tornados, a Hurricane, a Hercules, a T-Canyon, and a Topo, I'm really looking forward to this one.
