I love how the majority of the best Biwa players I've seen (modernly) are all women (this included). There are different types of Biwa meant for men/women but now it's interchangable if you're like me and are taller than the average American male so your fingers on a female anything is laughable at best...
Kinshi Tsuruta was truly amazing! I keep coming back to her for inspiration.

I saw in the 1970s in Paris Madame Kinshi Tsuruta playing this masterpiece. I have an unforgettable memory o it!

"めくら"というと、差別用語だという、何も知らない人達は言いますが、視覚障害者という方が、余程差別的なのです。
人間というのは、誰しもみな何らかの障害を背負っているものです。
これは、感情論ではなく、サイエンスの事実です。
そんな中で、人間は生きることに意味を見つけようとします。
"めくら"というのは、「目が暗い」という自然な言葉でなのです。
目が頼りにならないとなると、人間の五感のうちで、もっとも頼りになるのは音です。
「耳なし芳一」のことを、コメントされていた方がおみえになりましたが、まさにそのとおりで、音は、人間が母親の胎内で初めて得る感覚であり、臨終の際も最後まで残る感覚だと言われています。
ですから、音を頼りにする人は、極めて想像力に富んでいます。
琵琶の演奏が優れているのも当然です。
鶴田さんの平曲は、私の人生の宝物です。
私は、平家物語が大好きでした。
