I received one today as a Christmas gift, and love it! Thanks for your review. Also note, that the plastic plunger lip makes it comfortable to drink straight from if you’re alone, no cup needed. Anxious to use it in the back country.

I love this item, I like to brew it quasi-cowboy style. Get the water hot, throw in a few scoops (Sam's 105 Main works really well with this IMHO), then bring to a ROLLING BOIL for about 4 minutes. Let it set for a minute, add some cooler water, then press. Super smooth without the acidic aftertaste.

What makes me hesitate on this is that I've seen youtubers review it and say that some of the coffee dribbles out through the seam. "You get some grounds in your coffee that way but no big deal." Not sure I like that. I also hear that it presses completely to he bottom of the container, so it may be a case were the plunger is slamming against the coffee leaving a gap in the seam. I'd like to see more info on this issue in particular.

I have one of those. It makes FANTASTIC French Press coffee. The volume is perfect for two large mugs of coffee. I brought it when I camped on an island in the Gulf of Mexico for 4 days. The only drawback to it (or any French Press) is the clean up. Thankfully, there was running fresh water on the island. Otherwise, I would have made pourover coffee. I've never found any instant that I like.
Good review on a good piece of equipment.

Thanks for the vid! I of course did it all wrong. Yes, you are correct on the no boil for the water. An ex barista from a major coffee store recommends 190- 200F. When you see those little bubbles, you are really close. I usually pull heat off when you think its ramping to a rolling boil.
    Thanks Ernie!!

    Hey Ernie,
Wow...that Stanley press looks pretty big, but seems to work great!
I am using the 10 oz. Outdoor Products coffee press that I won in a Giveaway that you held a couple of years ago.
The Outdoor Products coffee press works great and keeps the coffee warm for quite some time!
I am planning an overnight hiking/camping trip into the wilds of SE Florida for the middle of next week, and I will be taking the Outdoor Products coffee press with me, so that I have some good tasting coffee to drink while out on the trail.
    Thank you again!

Don't do it man. I thought the same thing. If you're gonna drink it right away it's fine. But if you plan to sip it over a couple of hours like I did you should know that the ground go sour in the bottom pretty quick. I switched back to this one.

Have you tried the aeropress version of this? I'm having a hard time finding a comparison between the two for good simple easy camp coffee. I kind of like how this one doesn't rely on separate paper filters, but then there's going to be a screen failure at some point probably. Would love to hear your thoughts on one vs. the other if you've tried aeropress yet

Great video! I have been thinking about buying one for a week or so now for car camping. I have a question. If, after making coffee, you put on the lid and turn the lid opening 90 degrees from the pour spout can you drink right from the press? Also a neat feature (or so it seems) is that after pressing the plastic insert forms a second wall from the metal body with a little air space which would aid in keeping coffee warm longer.

The paper filter traps the oils from the coffee grounds - a purist would want the oils as it adds to the flavor profile and mouth feel. The oils from coffee supposedly have health benefits as well. It's the reason I switched from siphon filter or pour over to french press...
