As a Zanzibarian I’m so glad someone address the main and major issue that people quite find them negative and you switch to positive . Even tho it’s a touristic island but around the living area people should respect and understand the culture. And I like my people they will either approach you direct and nicely or thro someone in between to speak with you Just wear something doesn’t stand out too much in public
Great job with an open minded, bias free, review of Zanzibar. I spend a great deal of time in East Africa and have seen some reviews from "travelers" who seem to be more interested in themselves than the country that they are reviewing and at the same time slamming the country for various reasons. This particular review should be recommended to everyone who wants to visit Zanzibar or Tanzania in general. Well done.
Just a suggestion from someone who just got back from a trip: I would NOT recommend going on excursions from the random people who approach you- look on websites for well-reviewed tour operators. Because some of these excursions (esp. snorkeling) can be risky. Please think about it- you’re in a strange country being taken somewhere by a random stranger. U probably wdnt do that at home. At least with reviews, you can be more confident abt the person’s experience. And please, DONT go into open water if your boat operator doesn’t have life vests and first aid. I’m surprised that your boat operator didn’t have life vests! I saw so many with them, incl. mine.
Can’t remember what I said in the video, but it wasn’t a tour operator - we went with a local fisherman. I think it just depends on your style of travel tbh. You can ofcourse book online if you want, but it’s cheaper to book in person and you support the locals when you book with them instead of tour companies. But yes, recommend looking for one with a life vest, especially if not a confident swimmer! But ultimately, I think it’s down to differing travel styles.
Thank you for sharing what the woman at the hotel said and the experience the woman shared on Twitter. While the gentlemen said Tanzania is safe to him, safety for women, in any place is different. Thank you for all you've shared, and I'm glad you shared your feelings about traveling solo there. What a great tip on wearing a wedding ring. I never thought about that.
OMG 15:25 that's Zilla, he works at Lukmaan's restaurant now. Such a passionate guy. I just returned from a solo trip from Zanzibar, I felt safe the whole time

Thank you for these tips! I’m going to Zanzibar this summer with my 18 sister who is half black. We are from California and love the beach but I didn’t think that we would have to cover up as much on the way to the beach. I don’t want to put her in an uncomfortable situation so we will both cover up more. Thank you!
Happy to help! I definitely would have felt more comfortable with a maxi coverup or something not sheer! I hope u and your sister have a great holiday 💃🏾
Hey Sifiso., thank you so much for the video. I am a single mother with a 7 years old son and we are flying there in 2 weeks. Your tips were very helpful. I was born and grew up in Cameroon but because I am travelling alone with my son I was a little worried but your video chopped that stress quick quick!!!
Welcome to TanZania .... Zanzibar is the name combine two island that is unguja and Pemba so if some one visits Zanzibar we expect him to visit unguja and Pemba ...KARIBU ...welome
This was really helpful thank you - I'm going in July! Also, I had the turtle sanctuary on our itinerary but I took it off because of research I had done, it seems awful and not the best environment for the turtles!
I love this video. You kept it real. I was supposed to go 2 weeks ago but I backed out because I just had a feeling I didn't want to go nor was I prepared with clothes and it was supposed to rain every day in May. I also wanted to go to Rwanda and Kenya since it is only 1hr30 mins away but I didn't buy those flights in advance
I’ve also been in Zanzibar! I will definitely go again! Hope we meet in Zanzibar if we go at the same time! The only thing that I can say about the Muslim religion is,they’ve done a study on different religions and it was found that the Muslin religion is 67% the most violent religion in the world!
Amazing video. I think Zanzibar Tanzania gained a bit of a reputation as an escape destination for German's & Russians ( probably more German's ) escaping the lockdowns over the last couple of years. I get the impression that the late John Magufuli is heralded as a great anti authoritarian. I'v always imagined the traditional culture of anywhere in the world that's hot all year round to be one more were people had little or no use for clothes. Great Video.
Interesting that Magufuli past away in 2021🤔Anti-Authoritarians are prone to sudden death😬 I truely hope that this was not the case, and that his succeeder has a similar stance on their oppressive globalist agenda
I’m so happy that a Zim lady traveled to Zanzibar. More of us need to see more of us. It’s true Zanzibar is Muslim, but honestly the Christians from the mainland might give a girl even more trouble. As a man who was born in Tanzania I have to think about whether I can wear shorts in public. What’s crazy though is how Tanzanians become an entirely different people when they go to the club😂😂😂
Hey! I usually leave most of my money in the safe and bring out with me two days worth of spending money. That way if I lose it, I still have money at the hotel!
U will need to upload the vaccination certificate to the system if u are vaccinated. Alternatively you need a negative pcr test done no later than 72hours prior to arrival
This was very useful, thank you so much for this video. My husband and I are traveling to Zanzibar for the New Year and I did some research on how to dress there in order not to offend the people, so I bought a cotton (zero transparency) dress with short sleeves and it covers my knees and half of my calves too. But it's red. Do you think it might be a problem?
No we didn’t end up going Rock restaurant. It was quite far from where we staying! We both LOVED Stone town and wish we’d allocated more days to it. It felt very ‘real’ and had a lovely vibe
Hello. I enjoyed your information about Zanzibar. I have a few questions that I’d like to ask you. Can you tell me how to get in touch with you? I travel this November. Thank you. Ill look for your response here.
Hi sorry to say but that’s normal in Zanzibar they think all black women are either Zanzibari’s or from Africa i my self from Zanzibar born there but grew in uk. I never had that experience. That u had. I like your video x
Thank you Sifiso, very insightful. My wife and I are on our away to Zanzibar and will stay in Nungwi beach mostly. Prices- breakfast included in the resort but not lunch or dinner. Average price for a meal in Nungwi? Also - I assume there are supermarkets or small stores for groceries in Nungwi? I need yogurt daily and wondering about things like that… Cheers!
Hey, I’m glad the video was helpful and hope u and your wife have a lovely time out there! I can’t really remember costs. I know my favourite spot there had a large seafood platter for about £20 (so £10 each if u share). I usually include costs as I go on my IG stories. There are little stores around but I wasn’t on the lookout for yoghurt so can’t say either way on availability. I’m sure they would have yoghurt though!
The actual videos say a lot. Not impressed with the old buildings and surroundings which look like a shanty town. The beach waters are pristine and beautiful but Zanzibar has a lot of work to do. It's certainly not Bali, Vietnam, Thailand or the Caribbean.
A woman should always dress modestly and conservatively, whether she is on holiday or at home in familiar surroundings. Just saying. We, men, can see who you are, whatever you are wearing.

@sifisoabroad let's not pretend things do not occur to women traveling abroad. Heck, it happens to them at home. My challenge to you is to take that attitude, dress skimpily, and go to India. I have traveled half of this globe. I am not naive.
@sifisoabroad Never play Russian roulette with an automatic. That's the attitude. Here's a clue, research Natalee Holloway and Joran Van Der Sloot. Maybe you'll get an understanding. Read the case from it's beginning and don't skip one element, chapter, or episode.
The beaches, where not too crowded, seemed okay. The organised trips, hmmm, no. The dress code, no. The bothering at the crowded beach, everybody trying to sell u something, no no no no no. Another Solo Travel tip for Zanzibar; Don’t get carried away with the affordable drinks! Getting drunk or tipsy is not ideal when travelling alone !🧡

Very proud of you lady for going to the motherland instead of going to Europe!
The "Hakuna Matata" part where the nice stranger took you into a dark alley suddenly got a bit hairy I thought
When you go to Zanzibar, there are some dresses called Dera. We East Africans love them.
Also the sadza is called ugali.
Thankyou, I will be heading back to Zanzibar this year (hopefully) so I’ll look into Deras !

Thanks for sharing the inhumane practices of the turtles! So many of these animal photo opps are horrible! And sadly a lot of people do not know this.
