      @@FriendlyCroock You've got it wrong. Watched too many Spielberg stuff. He truly hates Germans even today.
      No, to the common Americans, the Germans were the enemy but only the SS were truly evil (even when the regular German Wehrmacht participated and facilitated large scale warcrimes in Central Europe and on the Eastern Front.
      Did you know that many Americans have German names? Anglicized over time but still very much noticeable to the trained eye:
      Klein/Kline - Fischer-Fisher - Timmermann - Carpenter
      Now you may say, hold on, there's also English people with those names but for some reason, you hear those names a LOT more in the US of A. Most ironic one was US Army Lieutenant "Hartman" or at least That's how his character was called in "The Bridge At Remagen (1969)"
      The actual person that character was based on was US Army Lieutenant Karl-Heinrich ('Heinz') Timmermann.
      So who are the *truly evil people* of all time, at least to Americans?

      sandovalva - With parody you always run the risk of jokes being outdated. As much as I love ZAZ, if you watch the original Airplane a lot of jokes just don’t work today. When they wrote The Naked Gun they made the smart choice to focus more on slapstick comedy rather than parody, which is why it holds up much better today than any of their other films (and yes, I know it’s mostly a David Zucker production). I created a public access show back in college in the early 90’s which owed its sense of humor to ZAZ, and it was a bit hit back then. But watching it now a lot of it just isn’t funny anymore. The slapstick stuff still does, however. Slapstick is timeless.

    • @Davesky19
      @Davesky19 4 роки тому +2

      I’d also like to add that Zucker’s Scary Movie films, while quite funny at the time, are already kind of outdated because he made the mistake of focusing on films that were big hits at the time. I mean, would young people today get the Michael Jackson/The Others joke?

    When the scene of the station moving away from the train was filmed, that was two pals of mine as extras dressed as German soldiers. I had driven to Peterborough to watch some filming one evening during the shooting. When the scene was shot of the big German riding on top of the train and bursting through the bridge, the soldier on the roof had a heavy steel, shaped frame to support him as he burst through the (polystyrene) bridge. There was a steam engine at each end of a train of about 5 coaches, I was riding on the rear of the two steam engines. Film shot in about 1984 from memory.

    The best thing about Airplane! is that it was based off an actual movie (Zero Hour!). Pretty much the entire plot and characters are lifted from Zero Hour. According to wikipedia, they actually used "parts of the original screenplay almost verbatim".

      The original "Airport (1970)" movie rates only a 6.6 at Imdb but I thought it was a rather decent movie. Dean Martin showed he could act pretty decently and George Kennedy was superb as the cool headed veteran flight controller.
      Kennedy missed the opportunity to spoof his former role in "Airplane!|" but ZAZ made it up to him by having him star in the movie version of "Police Squad" -> "The Naked Gun."

    "And Shock-a-let Mousse"! For Me, this flick is the Citizen Kane of slapstick parody movies! Not only is it leagues funnier than Airplane, Naked Gun, and all the other Zucker wannabe comedies that were released in their wake, but genuinely one of the comedies that has made me laugh the hardest, and most!!
    I had seen it couple of times upon first release, then again in late 80's, after which, I didnt see it again till picking it up on DVD in the 2000's! Couldnt believe after two + decades it was still the funniest thing around, and remains so!! Though, when I was younger, I never understood the weird juxtaposition of 50's rocker with WWII, but still found it funny! Now that I know more about Elvis movies, Etc, I find the parodies even funnier, and very spot-on!! 😆
