I still can't believe the instinct line up doesn't have maps. it's 100% designed for the rugged outdoors, hunters, hikers, and so on. They all would love to have maps. Maybe Garmin should make an instinct 4 map with the other options available too. IDK but just seem off to not have maps in this day and age especially for an outdoor profiled watch. The price is 500 bucks it should have at least a dumbed down version of there topo map, maybe there older topo map that used to be on their more expensive watches. A map without all the POI and landscape texture features but just a simple topographical map with roads and trails. It would be such a game changer for the the instinct. Plus having a simplified topo map wouldn't be a bad thing for the other watches as well, it'd be quicker to load and sometimes easier to read. I can't be the only person to think this.
@ hopefully they do, but at the 500 buck price point for the amoled version it’s unacceptable. There are many competitors who have maps on much less expensive watches. It just seems like a big miss for the market they are going after. Drop some of the training features, like training readiness for maps and it would have been almost perfect for the desired market.
It is WILD to me to have this release in 2025 and be using the 4th gen Elevate sensor. Absolutely wild. To put that into perspective... The Garmin 4th generation Elevate HR sensor, also referred to as "Elevate V4", first appeared in the Garmin Fenix 7 series which was announced in January 2022."

Great vid as usual. One thing I noticed is the website seems to be promoting the AMOLED as a stylish watch rather than an outdoorsy watch. They seem to have noticed these appeal to the Casio G Shock crowd and went for it.
Enough info in these intros to know I can still be happy with the Instinct 1. I expected to upgrade having skipped the second generation, but not enough new stuff to make it worth it. Honestly a bit surprised they went with AMOLED in this line. Most people I know got the instinct for the crazy battery life and that "upgrade" seems to negate it.
I’ve been an Instinct user for years. I’ve tried the Epix, Forerunner and Fenix 8 AMOLED, and they look amazing but I always went back to be Instinct 2X because the others all still felt too fragile. Finally an Instinct with AMOLED. I’ll be ordering that ASAP.
Amoled is the shiny fun thing. I have a Gen 2 epix, and love the general clarity of the screen. But my enduro 2 MIP screen is more readable in bright conditions. In a bright or snowy landscape I have several times found the epix unreadable. Enduro 2 also has a disgusting battery. So it gets the nod for being more useful
👎 Old Hr sensor 👎 Low memory 👎 No maps (I’d even take low quality with less details). Trails and trail names would be nice. 👍 Auto select gps 👍 Better battery 👍 flashlight on both sizes
Why would it, since 3 is hardly any upgrade? I mean, why would Garmin risk the sales of the new watch by further increasing the price gap between the new watch and an older one that's basically the same?
@@maltretingcommon sense my friend even if Garmin do not drop the price. Whenever a new version comes out naturally demand for older models goes down and retailers ship out stock at a discount.
Great video. I was going to wait for the Instinct 3 after having owned an Instinct 2X which I loved. I gave in though and got the Enduro 3, zero regrets as it's an awesome watch. Looking at the GPS battery life the Enduro 3 appears to out perform the Instinct 3 50mm Solar in every category.
It dang well should, given it is at a minimum $400 more. Even the Enduro 2 is $100 more, and that is used. I really want maps, but given the fact I don’t do multi day backpacks anymore with my little kids, and the increased cost for a watch with maps, this is probably a good option for me.
Love the video, thanks for the coverage on the newest model. I do wonder, however, how well this one will hold up compared to the Instinct 2 Solar. The first one I purchased only lasted just under 2 years before running into issues with randomly shutting off (mostly when vibrating or monitoring Pulse Ox). I sent Garmin an e-mail and they replaced it free of charge after I had sent it in. To my surprise, like clock-work (pun intended), the replacement they sent me ran into the same auto-shut-off issue as my first I2S. For context, I used my I2S mostly for tracking hikes and my commute to work via bicycle. I never dropped or incurred any significant impact that could damage the unit. From what I saw on Garmin forums, my issue seemed to be fairly uncommon and not at all rare, but still with an unfortunate lack of fixes besides a complete replacement.
Very cool lineup. I had the 2x for a brief moment, but got such an amazing deal on Epic Pro 51mm Sapphire, so ended there. Dreamwatch is Enduro 3, but not chipping out that amount for a watch. The Instinct watch was by far the most comfortable watch I have ever had on my wrist. Would be sooo cool if they added solar to the AMOLED though ☺️
Would consider buying the solar version if it had the newer sensor and more memory. I can live without maps (though it would be nice to have), but I’m not buying a watch with an old sensor and the internal specs of a tamagotchi
Quality snap-shot of the products on offer here. I've literally just purchased a Instinct 2 Solar at a reduced price - so the 3 Solar will be my upgrade in a couple of years time. I do hope they stick to MIP screens as I think they're better. If I wanted a flashy coloured brightly lit screen, I'd get a Forerunner or low spec Fenix. Quite like the idea of the 'E' variant here though, spoilt for choice.
As someone who does not own an instinct 2, but was seriously considering one over the last 6 months, I'm happy to see the Instinct 3. Not sure I'll get the amoled model.. I really like the battery life of the MIP display. I have a fenix 5 and want to upgrade. It's showing its age and is a bit heavier than I want now.
Had my Instinct 2X Solar for just over a year now and I've found that the solar made a negligible difference to its performance when skiing for a week - so whilst this is supposed to be loads more efficient, I don't actually need infinite battery life, I'll just take my cable away with me. Having had several touchscreen watches they're useless when wet so I don't need that. I don't need maps or an ECG function. I love the look of the new display whilst keeping the big G-Shock aesthetic. If I could get £150 for my 2X on eBay I'm very tempted to get the new 50mm AMOLED
Waited till Black Friday to upgrade my old Instinct to get the larger Torch model, but opted for $399 Epix Sapphire Titanium in white and I really like the touchscreen - especially long-press to drill into widget icons, viewing ski runs, and setting alarms. Making due with the screen flashlight. If the amoled Instinct with Torch was available at $400 I would step down but I would really miss the touchscreen.
An amoled display Instinct is awesome. They didn’t remove the MIP so people have options now. I’ve always wanted an amoled instinct because the Epix and Fenix are uncomfortable on my wrist. They’re heavy and never sit right. The Instinct has always been super comfortable. So now I can have a comfortable amoled display. Cheers Garmin.
Why do they force these color schemes on us? WHY do I have to be forced to choose a red ring around my entire watch for the solar? The same question for the sensor guard on the Fenix series. For gods sake ....
On the ads video we can see they sandwiched together that orange ring in between the watch with the screw, hopefully it will be changeable on the aftermarket accessories.
Having an amoled display on an Instinct blures the borders for me. It treads into other watches' territory and loses the main feature, which is the unlimited battery life possibility. So I am not sure if it's the right decision. I see, though, that people have been looking forward to a color display on the Instinct line... And I'll be looking forward to 2X vs 3 Solar (non-amoled) comparison. I am still with my Instict 1 Solar waiting for a good replacement. 2X was good enough to switch to, but a bit too large for my hand. So, I might consider the 45mm version of the 3 Solar. After your comparison video, mate ;)
Will there be a surf edition? I still have the original Surf Solar and the little tide map on the homescreen is literally the feature I use the most, but as far as I can tell it's only available on the surf watches.
I got the Fenix 8 AMOLED for daily wear that I don’t mind charging once or twice a week. The inconsistent battery does piss me off, though. But they’re so clueless what their customer base wants with this AMOLED. I had planned on getting an Instinct 3 with flashlight on midsize model for going on long trips without charging. But I had wanted the good pricing and color options. They took out all the colors and now I’m thinking about just going to get a 2X.
I like it. Bummer about the sensor though. Probably an update in an X model to come. The thing putting me off going back to a Garmin is the amount of stories I've read or heard of buttons dying after being in the ocean. Mainly the fenix line and some of the instincts. And I'm in the ocean a fair bit.
I was hoping to upgrade my Instinct 2 to the newer model but the one feature I wanted is still missing: no music for my gym workouts. My old Vivoactive 4 model was able to store music, why not bring that feature over to all devices as standard?
I definitely never expected Amoled on the Instinct, but I love it. I'm also very glad that they kept a Monochrome version. A darker military green color would have been good in the lineup. Very impressed though.
Amazfit just released a $129 Amazfit active 2 with Amoled, Saphire glass, music, 10 day battery and Maps! What's up Garmin? 😂 I'll keep my Gen 1 instinct and Amazfit T-Rex 3 Combo.
I picked a 2x solar tactical specifically for its contrasted simple B&W screen and stealth capacity on top of its 30 days battery life...And I don't see any reason to change for the new model. BTW, I cannot recommend enough the customizable Bigstinct watch face matching perfectly with this model ;)
If you’re OK with charging your watch once a week in always on display mode or 2+ weeks without the AOD, the benefits of AMOLED are hard to deny. It’s a far more capable display than MIP.
@grizzle1629 Ended up buying the Instinct 2X. It's practically the same and has a torch and is 40mm. Has everything I need and got it for £170 in as new condition on eBay.
Maybe if they had it released with full-blown integrated maps and a Gen-5 optical heart rate sensor for an "Instinct" prince, well, I guess nobody else would go for the high-end models like Fēnix and Enduro...? 🤷🏼♂️ I understand why it's unpleasantly surprising there though comparing to other similar brands!
You would think the instinct lineup would be the first to get maps considering it's targeted toward the hiker outdoorsy peeps. I love the design but will stick with my fr955 till the instinct matches all the features. Music, maps etc. Love the AMOLED display, but I'm a watch guy and wearing an AMOLED display watch all day is too much like wearing a phone on my wrist. I'll go with MIP display all day. Looks more like a regular watch and definitely the battery last longer

Do you have any news about instinct cross over in 2025 ?
Great video as always
Would be sweet to have solar on amoled, then put it in Lily chassis. And black it out to have Lily 3 Tactical.
I live in the UK. We don't get much sun. Would you think the AMOLED is a better way to go than Solar?
If you’re OK with charging your watch once a week in always on display mode or 2+ weeks without the AOD, the benefits of AMOLED are hard to deny. It’s a far more capable display than MIP.
Get the solar
@grizzle1629 Ended up buying the Instinct 2X. It's practically the same and has a torch and is 40mm. Has everything I need and got it for £170 in as new condition on eBay.
@@papaspears5035 Good Job. I grabbed the 3 in the 50mm. Still waiting on it to ship
How does the instinct 3 amoled compared to like a 265 or even 965?
Maybe if they had it released with full-blown integrated maps and a Gen-5 optical heart rate sensor for an "Instinct" prince, well, I guess nobody else would go for the high-end models like Fēnix and Enduro...? 🤷🏼♂️
I understand why it's unpleasantly surprising there though comparing to other similar brands!
What about a tactical version?
more colors later? will be there tactical edition or not anymore as the standard version will get the tac. features? (i still have the instinct 1)
Will there be a tactical version?
Does it support Grouptrack?
If it does I will upgrade from my I2.
Sold my Instinct 2 Solar, two monts ago to get apple, but i miss it and its runtime and toughness...
As a guy who just bought an enduro 2, this release is a big yawn for me lol
does it have a golfing feature ? cheers from Canada
That green amoled watch face looks soooo sweet. It’s like some high tech nigh vision device lol
I hope the tactix 8 has the MIP in 47mm
what's the cheapest way to go Garmin, AMOLED, Maps, and Training Readiness with the current models (no EPIX Gen 2, etc.)
965
You would think the instinct lineup would be the first to get maps considering it's targeted toward the hiker outdoorsy peeps. I love the design but will stick with my fr955 till the instinct matches all the features. Music, maps etc. Love the AMOLED display, but I'm a watch guy and wearing an AMOLED display watch all day is too much like wearing a phone on my wrist. I'll go with MIP display all day. Looks more like a regular watch and definitely the battery last longer
After watching this video and thinking about it, do I really need a new Instinct :) My Gen1 Solar is still working fine; Although I was waiting for an upgrade, this doesnt move met yet. I mainly use it for walks, hikes and running.
