I'm begging you to make an edit about The Netherlands when Belgium was still part of it, about the Bruges Matins perhaps😄 I really loved your edit, one of the best Dutch edits i've seen so far.
Agreed, it takes away from what we actually achieved. We weren't traditional imperialists until the 19th century. Before that we were the ultimate trade empire with for a while the strongest and biggest navy with the best economy and being together with Portugal the first continental empire. We also revolutionised ground warfare during the 80 years war which was later developed further by Gustavos adolphus of Sweden that took most of his inspiration from the boys of orange and developed it further. Bigger isn't always better and that's why people tend to sleep on the Dutch empire but we were a true force to be reckoned with. But even though we didn't necessarily need it due to our natural defenses it wouldn't have been a bad idea if the Dutch also invested more in their ground forces back in the day. Also the fact that we survived rampjaar (1672) is prove enough of the strength of the Dutch. Basically a civil war while being invaded by britian, France, Cologne and Münster and being able to throw britian back into the sea and decimate their fleet while the leadership of the Netherlands gets killed and being able to hold half of our country against the invaders and a year later forming an anti French coalition with for example the HRE and even getting britian to agree to help against France while surviving rampjaar without any loss at all (except for the fact that the economy took a hit) is pretty damn impressive.
@@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk You didnt decimate the Anglo-French fleet, no need to lie. You did defeat them, but you only sunk a few of their ships and that forced them to give up trying to invade by sea. So quit capping. Not to mention you ended up getting defeated and conquered by them in the 1790s
@@lollius88 who cares about the 1790s when talking about the 1670s? That's like talking about the French in ww1 and then saying yeah but you got occupied in the the 40s. Or talking about the franco prussian war but then saying that Germany lost both world wars.
@@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk Agreed. Yet its a related idea and it for example prevents the French from saying that they are better than the Germans because they conquered them in 1806, when they got conquered by them in 1870 and 1940. So they are related ideas, and we shouldnt be pretending that the Dutch navy was crazy or sum, it wasnt. Their whole celebrated Chatham raid was only made possible by the poor financial state of the King who didnt want to ask Parliament for money and lose political power in return. And there were negotiations underway, when the raid happened. So it was kind of treacherous and cowardly in my humble opinion. Not to mention that in the next few decades, Britain eclipsed the Dutch and took their position as the number one maritime and trading power, not to mention humiliating them in the fourth anglo-dutch war whilst being at war with their American colonists, France and Spain
Good day, which splendid video this is. I have pretty great respect for the Netherlands. I respect the Netherlands, as a country with regards to their culture, and also in relation to their, since the first establishment of a stock market, always present, important, and strong economic power. Therefore, I have quite a lot respect with regards to the VOC, and generally in relation to the Netherlands. I am from England, however my grandmother is a Dutch immigrant, who met my grandfather during his holidays in the Netherlands in the 1960's. I verily enjoy, and enjoyed each minute in which I was and can be in the Netherlands. It is a truly beautiful country, whether be it the architecture, or the beautiful fields, and much more. To be quite frankly, it is always a bliss for me, to visit my relatives in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague, and Utrecht. Thank you sir, for uploading this splendid video of yours. In the Netherlands we are learned that we did terrible things in Indonesia and Suriname, but there are two sides to the coin. Due to us cities like Surabaya have been largely expanded and a amazing railway system has been placed on Java. Yes there was slavery and that was not a good thing, but we were not 100% evil.
The Dutch Empire had a chance at the beginning of the 20th century if they quickly abolished their disgusting system of segregation against the Indonesian nation at that time. They tried to rectify slowly in the early 1920's stopped due to * Great depression * tried to resume it again in the 30's only to be completely cleared of their efforts to guarantee the rights of local natives with the arrival of the Japanese Empire which cleared the entire role of the Dutch Empire from the subject of Indonesian independence . Imagine how they (native Indonesians) felt like being made third-class citizens EVEN under immigrants like the Chinese, Arabs and Indians at that time in their own homeland... The Dutch tried to make their language the national language in the early 30's by trying to build basic education system for the local people but it was too late since the "Indonesian youth oath in 1926" had sealed the opportunity for the Dutch to be kind to their own colony. They built their own coffins with that system, the Great Depression dug graves for them (the Dutch empire) and Germany / Japan in World War 2 nailed the coffins for them. Finally, Indonesian nationalists buried their glory in 1949..... *Such was the end of most Empires and Kingdoms,Only realizing their mistake RIGHT after the Trap had been stepped on by them*
I'm begging you to make an edit about The Netherlands when Belgium was still part of it, about the Bruges Matins perhaps😄 I really loved your edit, one of the best Dutch edits i've seen so far.
Love this, just not the over exaggerated Dutch Empire at the beginning. 🇳🇱

Good day,
which splendid video this is. I have pretty great respect for the Netherlands. I respect the Netherlands, as a country with regards to their culture, and also in relation to their, since the first establishment of a stock market, always present, important, and strong economic power. The VOC, also is something I really admire, and appreciate. My grandmother, always told me some stories of this great institution.
We verily have to protect our culture, society, and everything our ancestors fought for.
Best regards, and I wish the honourable reader of my comment, a verily gorgeous day.

here where I am, in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, would be the capital of Dutch Brazil. I think if we had been colonized by the Dutch, today we would be a better country!
Seríamos um país tão bom quanto o Suriname. Kkkkkkkkk
@@semnome.a não tenho certeza se seríamos bons, ou ruins, mas vale a pena pensar
@@semnome.a nahh, Suriname was neglected in favour of Indonesia because Suriname was basically just a slave colony. Brazil would've been much more favoured over Suriname and wouldve seen way more development. Also your natives would probably be still around more.

Damn that last part is unfortunate. The safest parts are the majority white descent areas. So it would be like Peru or southern Mexico, shit-h0les in their own way.
Nice Video, but you could have included more pictures from the overseas empire.

As a indonesian, im not exactly proud of the dutch considering the things they have done to us but its kinda cool ig that a small country made a empire
sorry for civilising you
When we arrived you were a stone age civilization throwing rocks and spears. Killing and torturing oppositng tribes. When we left, you had guns and grenades. And you still resorted to killing and torturing opposing tribes. You are not better than any European "colonizers". You are worse. Same crimes, but minus the progression.
The dutch made Indonesia huge, they united many different tribes & islands into one huge country.
@@xandervdkolk9453 That is a slight overstatement. The Srivijayan state and the Majapahit empire had already united the most important regions in the past. The only regions that the Dutch truly added to the Indonesian world were the Moluccas and western New Guinea.

And in the last 40 years or so we pissed it all away.
First internationally multi-culturul European soceity, paved the way for our amazing babel of culture that is european cities today!

Nova Moslea was a colony of the Dutch Empire. REPUBLIC OF SOUTH MOSLEY
It was the British who settled and built up the state I now live in, but it was the Dutch who discovered it.

Prob the british
