    I’m worried that it might get dislodged from the plywood. You just laid down clay and perlite mortar and started your brick foundation? It doesn’t ever come loose bumping down the roads anywhere? I’m thinking to maybe hammer in some tall nails in through the mortar into the woods below while the mortar’s still wet? What do you think?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 роки тому +3

      Ive been driving it around for many years with no issue. I did put screws in out the outside of the brick base to keep them from sliding around.

      @@cobalot9 sounds like a good plan! I’ll do that also after it’s set and completed! Thanks! Been following up and learning for a while now! Your work is amazing!

    Is hydraulic lime same as "cal viva" ? In Portugal we mostly get cal viva and its traditionally used for lime rendering walls. What can I use alternatively if I can't get hydraulic lime? We have very extreme weather conditions, +40c in summer and -5C in winter with long periods of heavy rains.

    Just curious could you also use this sort of oven as a stove for heat? On one hand the fact that it retains heat seems good for when the fire goes out however is it so insulated that most of the heat won't escape?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 роки тому

      Yes, you can definitely use these ovens for heat.

    How do you bend the copper tubing for the hot water feature? I think this is so cool! I look forward to your reply.

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  3 роки тому

      I used flexible copper tubing

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  3 роки тому

      It’s flexible copper tubing

    • @jinheepark5077
      @jinheepark5077 2 роки тому

      Did you set the tubing straight in the oven? Does it boil the water instantly? Or did you bend the tubing to make it longer in the cob layer so the water has enough time to boil?
      This is ingenious! I have built a cob oven but never thought to put an instant water boiling system for tea! What a great idea! Also love the idea of it being mobile.
      What climate do you have? Did you end up putting a roof over your oven? Or was the lime plaster enough to keep it from deteriorating?
      Great video! Thank you!

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 роки тому

      Hi Sandra, I use a flexible 1/2 inch copper tube that bends very easily, just cant bench it too much because then it will crimp of course

    I’m also curious about the weight of this? We have a permanent stationary cob oven very much like this one but would also like to build a portable one. Any guidelines for weight restrictions?

    I've seen many without chimneys. What's the advantages or disadvantages of having one? Also I thought you take the coals out before you cook?

    • @leebryan2025
      @leebryan2025 3 роки тому

      We built a very similar oven to this a few years ago; with the 63% ratio for the height of the door, it drafts beautifully but it has discolored the top front on the outside of the oven. A chimney would have prevented this. I am wondering what material he used for the chimney form? Did he leave it in?

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 роки тому +2

      Right. A chimney is not necessary. Ive built many ovens without chimneys. A main advantage I see in having a chimney is that there is a little less smoke that comes out the front door when first starting the fire. Also, with a chimney, you can have the door on, with a hole cut into it to allow some air flow into the hearth and still maintain the heat in the oven, basically a rocket stove effect. Yes, for baking you can remove the coals, but for cooking pizzas I usually keep the fire going

      The ones I've made, I just scooped it out, using any sort of handy tool to help. A garden trowel worked for me.

    This is going to be very heavy, you might break your axle, since the weight is no over the axle

    • @cobalot9

      I’ve driven it around for 4 years now without any problems

    • @cobalot9

      I had the front axle reinforced so it was able to handle the weight.

    Why not use cement for the various layers like the ramearth guy do to make houses. Cement makes things much stronger no??

    • @cobalot9
      @cobalot9  2 роки тому

      Because its not necessary, a cob oven is plenty strong.

      I see a chicken coop and farm equipment. They're not Martha Stewart but they're just working people. Honestly you have a judgemental streak. you should take a closer look within before flinging mud at others.
