Finally a video of someone using commonly used tools versus the collection of fancy woodworking tools. Thanks, this gave me alot of pointers I needed. Great video
Great job!!! Thank you for your time and hard work 👍👍👍. Could you please tell me who made the sloyd knife you were using??? All the best from Alabama 👌
You do good work. I have two bits of advice to improve your carving a little. First get a strop and some green stropping compound. Their use will make your tools sharper and you won't have to exert so much force to do the job. Second, get some cabinet scrappers. These will further smooth your already great work and make your projects easier on the hand and eye. This is not meant to critize you. It is just advice to help you advance to the next level of craftsmanship. I want to see more from you,
hi i am your subscriber from indonesia...i like to see this one thanks... 1 question,i would like to see you video when you making your own bucksaw from start to finish..do you have that video..
Was wondering why the use of the axe as opposed to the saw for most of the block chopping section? I originally thought this was going to be done with only carving tools and axe but you did utilize the saw at one point.
Fabulous work very inspiring so much so I'm going to have a crack at making one. Just out of curiosity how many do you think you put into making your kuksa?
Are there any woods that shouldn't be used for drinking and food vessels? I saw someone made a chopping board from hemlock. I thought hemlock was poisonous. Just wondering if all woods are safe to make kuksa?
Hey Mitch great vid! I've toyed with the idea of making my own mortise and pestle for grinding spices for the longest time. Of course i could buy it, but that isn't the point. Would birch be a good wood for that kind of work? Been a long time subscriber and never regretted it.
Birch would be fine for that, i made a ton of wild spices and foods survival vids years ago and used my pine carved bowl among other things to crush oak acorns so even soft pine works; Birch would be great.
Mortar and pestle. Not mortise - that's a type of lock. But wow, yes! I've been wanting one for a long time; never thought of carving one. A wooden mortar would be _great_ . I live in Citrusdal in the Western Cape and we are a _major_ citrus growing area... Lots of beautiful pale yellow-gold wood.
Sorry, Nelson - didn't realise you'd take such exception to learning a new - a _correct_ word. As for the party, I'd rather not be invited a second time than go the first time and then have people sniggering at me behind my back for using malapropisms. But hey - it's your party...

That's a great piece of advice! I finished my first Kuksa yesterday :) The next one will be soaked in oil because I had some drying out issues due to my work speed.
