    Eva Braun had two sisters, Ilse and Margarete, nicknamed Gretl. Ilse was very skeptical about National Socialism. She kept as far as possible away from Hitler's surroundings and rarely visited her sister on the Obersalzberg. Over the years, she accused Eva of becoming more and more arrogant and superficial.
    Gretl belonged to Eva's constant circle at the Berghof; on June 3, 1944, she married the aspiring SS officer Hermann Fegelein (1906-1945), a liaison officer of Heinrich Himmler. Fegelein tried to escape in April 1945 but was captured. Since Hitler suspected him of being connected to Himmler's previous offer to surrender to the Allies, he had him shot on April 29, 1945 in the courtyard of the New Reich Chancellery. Even Eve could not stop the dictator. She initially championed her brother-in-law, but ended her efforts when she discovered that Fegelein had stolen her jewels and cheated on his pregnant wife. Gretl Fegelein gave birth to a daughter on May 5, 1945, whom she named "Eva" in memory of her sister.

    I'm so glad I missed WWI and WWII because the living conditions for so many people were hair raising and I don't think I am brave enough to have endured them. It is easy to judge people looking back from our present time, but we don't know what WE would have done if we were there.

      Ironically, AH proves your point. He befriended a six year old girl who happened to share a birthday with him, she had lost her father very young and he sort of filled that void in her life. When it was revealed that she was actually part Jewish, he still kept trying to maintain their father-daughter relationship until those in his inner circle forced them apart. They did so to avoid the PR fallout of AH being seen with a Jewish girl.
      AH was a monster, and a hypocrite.

  • @gregmaggio5217
    @gregmaggio5217 Рік тому +7

    The whole regime was an example of duality, especially in AH's inner circle, i.e., Himmler, Goering, Goebbles, and Heydrich. The ability to carry out orders that were killing and torturing millions, meanwhile acting civilized with a quiet family life. I believe the abyss that an average person is willing to sink to for money, notoriety, respect, etc, is far deeper than most realize. The whole thing can happen again.

Adolf loved her not as a true love, but as someone he didn't have to search for as she was right there and was willing to please him in even bizarre scatological ways, which she didn't understand, but was still willing. This perverse love making was documented in one of her diaries as well as documented by interviewing a particular maid whose job is was on changing the sheets.
