3:05 really emphasizes my feelings on this. In the past some F1 teams (not gonna name names, but… starts with an F) have put their branding on replica wheels, but they haven’t been exactly the same CAD models, materials, etc. Some people in the community have attempted to make replicas as accurate as possible, but they only had access to photos and rough dimensions. Photogrammetry is pretty good nowadays (see: 2020 Racing Point aero package) but it’s still not perfect, so it’s awesome that a true replica is available now. Thanks guys!
Heeeeeeeyyyyy! Awesome to see James on the Big Channel! Interesting to hear the differences in small things like the button actuation throw. I knew about it being based on the same CAD which is fantastic. I love making DIY sim gear, and have tried to tackle replicating this wheel from photo references. Hours and hours of time spent. Being able to just purchase something 1-to-1 is amazing. Bravo Sim Lab and Mercedes!
Made a bet that if Lewis won after Silverstone I'd buy one of these. My friends forced me to count the Belgian Grand Prix, and I'm so glad they did. So many rotary knobs, the knobs themselves are so stiff, haven't made a mistake with a knob setting since switching over.
Definitely answer lots of the questions I need to know about the steering wheel , it is important to create the steering wheel as accurate as possible, performance is the outcome of winning or loosing
I love the fact that Lewis Hamilton actually helped make the Mercedes F1 steering wheel into the way he wanted it, be interesting if he changes anything in the Ferrari wheel
Not really, VPG makes the Mustang GT3 wheel, Trak Racer the Alpine F1 wheel, Fanatec the BMW M4 GT3 wheel, Ascher the Artura GT4 wheel... lots of irl real wheels that you can use in simracing
I am quite sure that they are different in many ways. The main thing will be the software and hardware. The F1 steering wheel will have processors for comuication from the ECU or other car devices. In simracing the communication protocols with a windows PC are different. I don't think the data processing units in both applications require the same power, so they will have reduced costs. I imagine that the screen and RGB lights on the simracing steering wheel are not the same as in F1. There they will have saved costs as the one used in F1, manufactured by Mclaren, I don't think it's very cheap. Also, it is not necessary to use the same component when you don't have communication with FIA, etc. On the other hand, I imagine that the F1 one has a connector inside the QR, while in the sim one, the cable is separate, since, in simracing, each user will use a different QRs, for his simulator. The F1 car QR is unique (there are only two cars and they make it), and also, saving the cable is much more practical when it comes to getting in and out of the car, etc. On the other hand, the guy on the right, says that in simracing, you need the same amount of buttons and knobs as you might need in the F1 car. In simracing, you often need to move around the simulator or game menus, and also change certain parameters in an unlimited amount of increments and decrements. The F1 car, generally the wheels they use are fixed position. Also, most of them are designed to be used when you are on the move. In simracing it's not like that. I haven't seen an F1 steering wheel with a funky switch for example.Generally, for most cars used in simracing, you don't need so many buttons and rotaries. Not even in the formulas.
Here is a thought: with simulators drivers can prepare for F1 from junior categories. But there is a line which only the real car and driver can do. It's not that Lewis and Max will improve for 2025, because they are above sim level. Basically if someone can put sim experience into the real F1 car, then sims are pretty good.
@@YGhost_05 clearly pretty accurate. I don’t think they would have high professional F1 Drivers use a sim that isn’t an exact copy of real life. 🤦🏼♂️ Ughh people don’t think before they type nowadays. Dumb question buddy.
@@robinhoodttv you are the prime example of letting your words out before you think, this person simply asked if they are accurate, if you know they are accurate(which they are very accurate indeed) why don’t u share that knowledge and build that person up instead of tearing him down for no reason. God bless you both, have a great day.
Considering how much F1 is changing in 2026 especially with regard to ERS it feels like a mistake to release a product like this so late in the rules cycle. 2026 wheels might probably be rather different.
Lewis is who got me into f1, he has always been and always will be my favorite driver ever. That being said, Im still a Mercedes fan. I will also always be a Mercedes fan. I know everyone aint the same but I don’t understand all the hate and switch ups. Everything wasn’t perfect but it was nearly perfect for over a decade and that’s more than any fan can ask for. I hope Lewis wins every race next year but if he don’t, it better be a Mercedes lol
I wonder if this wheel will have more success within F1 fans or simracing users, Mercedes has the best looking of the F1 wheels but not having the 7-way/funky switches can be a deal breaker, also it doesn't have proper dual clutch (has a feature that mimic it but it's not he same thing). Was expecting more of a detail explanation of how it works and not a pure bs sponsored video, 280mm is good for Formula cars, but for prototypes is better 290-300 and for GT3 is better 300-310mm, so the best for all is 300mm...
We are so proud about this partnership! The result is amazing. ❤

How much being the big question?
£2273.... eeek!

For some reason my Logitech wheel seems inadequate, nice work
Nice work, looks like only Merc are innovating in this space

Not the fastest of STRATs is this. 😎
Fred's facial expressions make him look like a simulation of a human. Perfect for this segment on sim racing I suppose.
Awesome video and I’m geek when it comes to everything sim racing. Wish they would have spoke about the shifter and why it was design the way it is…

good enough for W11 still can't be beaten 4-5s slower than RB19
can't w8 to use on codemasters games with t-cam

Over £2000 😱 it does look pretty incredible even as a display piece
the best steering wheel of all time!
