Based in South Carolina, we are a full-time traveling family. Colin was born and raised in Malaysia and moved to the U.S by himself at age 19. Meg was a military kid born in Germany and the both us have always had a dream that we would 'travel the world' as kids. After 7 years of marriage and two kids later, we got selected by @Airbnb to join the 'Live Anywhere' program and we have been making our dreams come true, one trip at a time.

I have been to Malaysia 5 times but only along the western peninsula and its surrounding islands but my 6th visit will be to the Borneo par of Malaysia mainly Sabah and probably Sarawak

Update: I was there last year.for my 6th visit to Malaysia.
I did stay in Semporna for 3 nights doing day trips to Pulau Mabul and Pulau Sipadan plus other island hopping tours which were absolutely amazing and highly recommended BUT Semporna Town was a dump!!
However, went to Kota Kinabalu as well and the city is really nice, and did day trips there too

I have visited Mabul island and Kapalai before, both easily one of the most beautiful place I've ever went. Not to mention the seafood, oh so good. Can't wait for my next trip there.

Awesome video. I've been to Mabul, good place , you May choose budget accomodation and add up the food provided by the homestay. Buy fresh seafood from the sea gypsies and spenda knight at the jetty while enjoying the night scenery, beautiful.

Ive been to mabul only at age of 26 even tho im sabahan. The sea there was super clear, seen few turtle. Lots of turtle!! InshaAllah one day ill go to sipadan for diving and the resort.

I agreed Sabah has some of the best diving spot which is unknown and unexplored by tourist. I remember, more than 15 years ago I stayed at Roach Reef Resort, Sabah where the owner told me that there are not many foreign tourist even heard of that place. Only the Japanese came to visit that place and wanted to buy the whole Island.

I went to KK a few years before the shitty Pandemic, and the islands there are fantastic, I even promised I would take my mother there to experience the beach islands with the huts and stuff.
Do it man! We wish we visited the much lesser known Turtle Island near Sandakan too. We hear Lankayan and Mataking are great too.

Should try Mataking island.. Next to Kapalai... And Lankayan island in Sandakan ...both island is private.. Dont worry they have an army and police taking care the island and watching them 24 hours from the pirates...

Hi Audrey! When you book with the resort directly, you arrange all the transportation with them. They will pick you up at the Tawau Airport, take you to Semporna where you check in, and then the 45 minute boat ride.

Yes of course you have enough time! But also check out perhentian or tioman which may be a lot closer. Perhaps no over water bungalows but I’ve seen great photos from those places. It’s a 2.5 hour flight to Tawau then 1.5 drive to Semporna then a 45 minute boat ride to Kapalai. So it really is quite the distance!
