  • Ahmed Best is back in Star Wars and it's PERFECT! We've been wondering who saved Grogu from the Jedi Temple for two years, and I genuinely think this is the best choice they could have possibly made for several reasons. So today let's celebrate Kelleran Beq and Ahmed Best!

I agree with what Alex said in recent streams; while it’s great that many are praising Best’s return and great usage of his JTC character, to say it’s a redemption assumes that Best did a great wrong, which he absolutely did NOT. This isn’t a redemption, this is justice.
Now I only hope that Kelleran Beq won’t suffer some horrible fate on-screen.

@@zXPeterz14 if he plays a good character then I'll like the character and their role in the show. Saying that he shouldn't have been personally attacked, that's crossing a line, one which star wars fans do to often (jar jar, young anakin, anakin, rose, etc, criticies the character, story, acting and directing but don't going after the actors outside of that).

It's the jedi purge, he'll probably have a not nice ending.
Then again the number jedi who survived the whole thing keeps on growing, to the point where the original trilogy is starting to not make as much sense, so who knows, maybe they'll be yet another jedi who is running around throughout the original trilogy while luke is the only jedi left and could do with some training and the rebellion is lucky to have a mysterious jedi even though they have several who've been part of the rebellion since the start and right up to ANH. So yeah he could just be given some convenient reason for leaving grogu and never showing up to help luke or the rebellion during the galactic civil war (like ahsoka, ezra and probably cal will be given).

Also, as something some people have pointed out. Not only were the people he went to Nabooian pilots, but the ship he fled in was also Nubian. But it wasn't Padme's wide-winged Yacht. But the sleek, slender design.
Because at the time of the temple attack, Padme couldn't be saving younglings and Jedi, shipping them off the world. She's busy staring at the attack, weeping in fear of Anakin's fate.
Meaning that the one who was setting up the whole operation was the third and the character that Ahmed Best is the most remembered for.
    Jar Jar Binks.
Jar Jar was the friend that Kelleran knew who had set this whole thing up.
Which is hella awesome and a very sneaky way for Star wars' "Most Hated Character 1999-2005" to contribute to a pivotal moment in the story without including him in it for fear of possible fan reaction from the people who gave him that moniker.

Avoids the continuity issue while exploring a character we know little about. Completely onboard with the idea of him having lost his lightsaber too and just using a nearby one given there's a lot of circumstances where something like that could happen and he demonstrated a willingness to just pick up a lightsaber from the ground and just use immediately without question.

Kelleran Beq was there when Anakin killed most of the kids he was teaching. Imagine the soul-crushing effect.
...also imagine if he tried to stop Anakin and lost his saber in that fight but somehow survived. If the upcoming shows don't address it, that is my head cannon. He could not save his pupils from the evil, that was maybe once in his classroom as well.
Edit: And since we are getting all these characters, and actors are getting second chances, what about a live-action appearance for Sam Witwer? Why are they not capitalizing on the gold that is this fan favorite actor? Or are they keeping him for something big? Like casting him as Tarre Vizla in a re-furbished Darth Revan story (Revan as the mind-wiped Mandalorian rediscovering his heritage).
Or a retelling of the secret apprentice story, only it is an inquisitor that now serves Thrawn.

The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch are starting to feel like anthology series similar to TCW series which I love. The last episode of the Mandalorian was mostly about Dr Purshing on corrusaunt, and now this episode takes us back to the past with Grogu during order 66. The Bad Batch has some episodes which focus on crosshair and others on the rest of the Bad Batch.
Star Wars shows work better as anthology shows because it’s a Big galaxy, so much is going on at one time.

The response seems like most folks are genuinely happy to see him and pleased by his performance.
If there's any redemption involved, it's Lucasfilm giving him a role that isn't as... unbearably problematic as Jar Jar.
It still baffles me decades later, that people couldn't separate the actor from the role he played to that degree. I really had no interaction with the fandom beyond a handful of people back then, so it was a real shock and letdown. If Jar-Jar had been in ANH my generation would have grown up with him and he would just be part of canon.

I am SO happy for Ahmed Best! I lost my freaking mind when I saw him! What a absolutely great inclusion.
We all know what this means right? Technically it was JAR JAR who rescued Grogu from the Jedi Temple! Well goddamn😂! Well played Filoni and Favreau! You got us! And shoutout to Carl Weathers for the excellent direction of the whole sequence
Personally I didn't watch Jedi Temple Challenge but I did know of it and Kelleran along with the fact that he was played by Ahmed Best. I learned the basics of the character from the video you did and I thought it was amazing that he got to do this character with such purpose behind it. When they showed his face, I immediately recognised Ahmed and my mind just raced back to his Jedi character from the game show and I LOVED that it was the same character and that he got to bring him to life in such an incredible fashion. The whole scene with him dual wielding against the attacking clones was fantastic.
I joked that Tera Sinube was the one who saved Grogu purely because I loved this image of him just *slowly* walking away from the burning Temple with Grogu in tow but putting that joke aside, I love this so much more than any of the ideas thrown out there since we learned Grogu was a Order 66 survivor.
I disagree wholeheartedly that this is any type of fan service. That would have been putting someone more recognised or who people were speculating/expecting like Quinlan Vos or Barriss Offee (who for some reason was considered an option). This is not fan service, this is JUSTICE for Ahmed Best.
Something I love is that Grogu and Kelleran escaped Coruscant in a Naboo Nubian ship, possibly even Jar Jar's ship because it's the model from Attack of the Clones, which feels just so perfect. I'd love to know what history Kelleran had with those Naboo Guards. Hell, maybe Naboo was even Beq's homeplanet. It's also fitting because Naboo *did* help hide surviving Jedi in Legends. I also love how it connects to Grogu's present day with Din. Grogu escaped Order 66 in a Naboo starship, that was his salvation. And now he and Din are flying around the galaxy IN A NABOO STARSHIP. A Nubian saved Grogu from the Jedi Purge and an N1 saved Din from the rut he was in after Grogu left to train with Luke and now it keeps them both together. That is a stroke of thematic genius!
Watching the episode, I did think for a second, "Wait wasn't his saber a different colour?" but I didn't watch Jedi Temple Challenge so I wasn't sure if we ever saw him activate his lightsaber onscreen. I will say I thought the green saber really suited Beq. As a teacher, he strikes me as a guy who values knowledge, which by Legends standards at least, would be a Consular and thus a green lightsaber but I do know Ahmed specifically chose purple so part of me wishes they'd let him use that. I kinda wish they'd be bold enough to challenge the casual audience a bit more and keep the purple lightsaber for Beq because Ahmed asked for it, just showing "Hey Mace wasn't the *only* guy who had a purple lightsaber". It's not like that would be some groundbreaking reveal that would change their view on the franchise. With so much meaning behind that decision on Ahmed's side, I would have liked them to honor it. He specifically requested purple as a homage to Windu and because it's a balance between blue and red. I know some people push back heavily against other characters having purple lightsabers but it's a thing and it doesn't take away from Mace's uniqueness, he was still **the** first character to have a purple saber and the only one in the films. But on the other hand, I can see people who would see a purple lightsaber and immediately think it was Mace Windu and when it turns out it wasn't, just being dismissive of Ahmed's return and I wouldn't want that. I want this to be a triumphant moment for him. I'm fine to assume that they discussed this with him during the production and filming but the fact that they felt they had to change it at all just kinda makes my eyes roll, you know? But then again I'm also kind of viewing this like another Depa Billaba situation. Her saber was green in the comics yet blue in The Bad Batch (it was always intended to be blue as per George Lucas though) but it didn't take away from the appearance. I also feel that way here with Ahmed Best and I'm fine to also headcanon that he somehow just lost his usual lightsaber. Whatever, it doesn't take away my absolute joy and happiness for him getting to play this character in a major show in such a badass and meaningful scene.
