I experienced this in a certain workspace and shared it with my work colleague who was a secretary to the perpetrator and all she told me was to zip up and help her never to utter it out. I got confused and never went to his office again without being accompanied by her. This person grabbed my butt and couldn't believe it until I looked at him and he winked at me. Alot happens in the so called "corporate offices"

For children above 3, the P.A.N.T.S acronym comes in handy. Firstly as affirmations made by the child with our help but also as an easy way of giving them appropriate sex education to curb sexual harassment and abuse. You can tailor it to suit you.
P.A.N.T.S in this case stands for
    P- *PRIVATES ARE PRIVATE*
The parts I cover with my swimsuit are Private parts. This is why I cover them at all times. No one should ask to see or touch parts covered by my underwear or swim suit (Now parents let the babies wear underwear from as early as possible)
Sometimes the doctor might want to see, but they should always explain why and ask if it is okay first. I do not go to the doctor's room without dad or mum.
A- *ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU OWN YOUR BODY*
My body is God's gift to me. No body should do anything that I don't understand or makes me feel uncomfortable. If anybody tries I will tell an adult.
    N- *No means NO.
I have a right to say NO even to someone that I know and love. I am in control of my body and how I feel matters. If I do not understand something being done with my body, I will say No. I can say NO if I don't want to hug or kiss someone. I can give them a hug or shake their hand. When it comes to my body, what I say passes
T- *TALK ABOUT SECRETS THAT UPSET YOU*
Secrets should not make me feel worried. If they make feel worried, upset or uncomfortable, I tell an adult that I trust. Secrets that come with threats are bad Secrets. I will not get into trouble for sharing a secret that makes me upset. (Parents together with child can come up with a child safety network, list people that she can talk to)
S- *SPEAK UP, SOMEONE CAN HELP.*
I always talk about stuff that upset me. I always ask questions when I do not understand what is happening. An adult that I trust will listen. It doesn't have to be a family member, I can talk to my teacher at school or church too.
You know, the saddest thing about defilement is that no justice can undo the damage done to that little boy or girl. But also there is no guarantee that that child will get justice in Uganda. Sigh!

Almost all of us girls growing up in Ug have been sexually harassed at one point, all the women I know have. The culture just let's it pass. I hate that part about our culture and laws seem nonexistent. As an adult, I've learnt to speak up more but downtown and Boda guys is something else.

Parents also need to stop asking their children to call every elder aunt or uncle. If the person is a friend or unrelated, they need to be addressed by their names. Much as relatives can abuse us too, growing up addressing people as aunt and uncle created confusion and so many of those “Uncles” and “aunts” abused that respect. Let’s teach kids to be respectful but teach them to be able to know when these elders try to cross some of these boundaries that lead to sexual abuse.

Omg when I was young the shamber boy used to touch me un appropriately, dry hump and I was soo scared to even talk about it, he would do it then just smile and joke about it … so I actually thought he didn’t mean it so I would just brush it off… I didn’t know what to do , I didn’t know if it was wrong or right because of the way he used to portray it , he made it look like it was okay… and no one ever talked about sexual hate with me, so I didn’t know what to do… and this same thing affected me up to campus.
I remember the first time I was used by a man , I never realized that I was used till like weeks later after the event.
And thinking about it now, it must rooter from my childhood when that shamber boy would tell
Me “…ahh, it’s okay am not doing anything wrong “😥😥😥… so my brain was automatically tuned to always think that this man was not doing anything wrong 😖…. I hated myself for that , till now

Very interesting topic. I think women respond to sexual harassment differently based on their vulnerabilities and personal experiences. If a woman is at a job that she doesn’t want to loose, she may stay quiet even though she is being sexually harassed. Silence doesn’t mean a person approves what is happening or doesn’t have an opinion. Women have been marginalized for so many years, especially African women. I believe the culture emboldens men and almost gives them a free pass to get away with murder. I agree that men get harassed as well but I believe women suffer from sexual harassment at a higher percentage. Gréât topic. Keep them coming.

Also, often women and girls often don’t say anything because of how men often respond when called out for uncouth behavior- they respond in further abuse and even extreme violence. And so a lot of us have been conditioned to keep quiet lest you offend men. As parents now, we must teach our kids - girls especially to advocate for themselves, raise your voice, be rude even.

My body, woman or man, it is not ok to touch. Even my hair. And the kids should know that. I love the encourage them to talk. I ask my nieces and nephews for hugs and always let them know that if they don't want to hug hello they are not obliged to. Teach them autonomy early.

One of the reasons women don’t speak up about harassment or abuse is because of the shame. Which girl, young lady or woman wants the humiliation of feeling defiled or even worse feeling spoiled. What about when she wants to be liked but not in a sexual way? I think one of the solutions is to have mothers, aunties, grandma form a circle of trust and protection around each other starting at age 12-80. Not just one way discussions mother to daughter. Remember, WE WONT HEAL WHAT WE DON’T REVEAL. With that we can change our societies.

From a legal perspective I still stand corrected there is a sexual harassment clause that employees should sign regardless of size now however given the masculinity of the work places it has received rejection and once you raise it the employers men in particular come up with a shitty defenses

We had a boss who was so touchy and would use any chance. Sometimes he would walk up behind you and rub your arms or shoulders in a very weird way. When discussing something privately with a lady in his office, he would be touching your thigh or something like that. It was so disgusting yet he was the kind to get someone fired for the pettiest thing so anyone who still wanted their job would keep quiet. Those of us who made it clear that we hated what he was doing did not survive there for long, he would accuse you of making errors you did not make or totally frustrate and fail everything you try to do. This is someone with a wife and daughters too so you wonder if they do not think the same may be happening to them. As for strangers on he street or in the bar, any inappropriate touch, I slap immediately without fear or favour, None has ever physically reacted to that. As a matter of fact, at times other people join in when they realise what the person did or I call a bouncer and they get lifted out by the neck like chicken thieves

This topic I love it.....for my son I always talk to him about his identity, what's appropriate n what's not and to always tell me anything about anything, recently he came and told me about the shopkeeper that was touching his middle area and even wanted to touch inside his pants am like what so I ask him to show me who exactly and it was a man 😠😠😠eeeeiii I told him well done son now this is how you deal with such habits......I told him to kick or slap off such filthy hands.
My son is making 6 in Feb and while I thought he was too young for the talks when I started them I wasnt if j hadn't been talking to him who knows what the wolves would be doing to him now eeeeh parents we need to talk to our kids as soon as possible don't wait for puberty NO, talk and talk and talk often.
Thanks for the show ladies,I have loved it.

This was a heavy subject and I think personally it should have come with a trigger warning, coz it was very triggering. Sexual harassment, assault, violence and all it entails is extremely prevalent in this country and it's so normalized that females just have to "swallow it and move on" but it shouldn't excuse it or make it right/okay. It's so horrific that women are blamed for being assaulted or harassed! This was a very heavy subject and very triggering and for any girl or woman that has been assaulted, may you find healing in the journey and remember it is never your fault.
    Thanks for the episode.

The stories and the comments as well show this prevalent and wholly unacceptable issue is really endemic in this country. Pumla whether you feel nothing, is irrelevant. It is illegal behaviour. The fact that every woman, in this day and age, has experienced this, is enraging. It makes me not want to have a daughter because the world is such a dangerous and horrible place for women. At work, I am on the ethics committee and we receive so many sexual harassment complaints. As the only woman on the committee I fight with my male colleagues to give the perpetrators the harshest punishments, including termination, to make an example of them. The women at my workplace also have a specific group where we meet, share and it’s a safe space where they know they can express their issues to female senior management and we take it up. If your office doesn’t have such a group, please start it. We have to fight for each other. Some of us can speak up without repercussions and I accept and honour that responsibility for women below me. We have to.

90%of sexual abuse, especially the children, is with in the family setting. Children should be told as early as three years of age about their sexuality, let them know it’s not okay for anyone to touch their private parts without their consent( even if it’s the Dad or family members). And most importantly, once your children confide in you, listen, ask them how they feel ( do not interrogate ) and believe them!
But also, empower & instill self confidence from a young age so they are able to speak up,and create a healthy relationship with your kids, so they are comfortable enough to confide in you.

It even hurts the more when I'm unable to talk back because I don't want problems with my grades
