Have you been in Macy’s lately? Employees with bad attitudes, way too much junk. Cheap clothing at high prices. It’s easier to shop online because when you are in store the employees ignore you or don’t know where things are located in the store.
You guys didn't talk about how they got the bail out from the government and still fired 3900 people corporate gave themselves a $9,000000.00 in bonuses and they're not paying into the employees 401k and trying to change all the full time positions to part time
Hire a millennial as CEO and he or she will save thos iconic brand. Every company is run by yes men and they just chill and get paid. Those who wants to make change is seen as shaking the boat. That's corporations for you. RIP Macy's. Innovate or die.
The decline of Middle class and the rise of fast fashion are the biggest contributors to Macy's decline. The rich have no need to shop at Macy's and the poor cannot afford to shop at Macy's.
Maybe their clothes is just bad man... target has better stuff. Second many rich people buy at cheaper places for example Walmart, it’s not that they can’t afford,it’s just not good.
Thus we have a government that is putting all its weight on election results and right know people like you need government intervention that would potentially help you to continue with your business. This makes me so angry and sad at the same time. 🙏🏻
@@cardett75 I’m thinking more of how do you innovate a department store? You can change the decor and aesthetics, go more digital and stuff of that sort. But what more is there? And I think they’ve already done those things, plenty of times...
Part of the problem is the internet sales... but there is also the problem that the average age of an American keeps going up as the birthrate drops. Past a certain age people don't buy as many goods.... and people under 18 tend to consume the fastest do to changing sizes and tastes...
Decades ago, I worked for Carter- Hawley-Hale which owned the Broadway, Broadway Southwest, & Emporium stores in the western US. After I left, they were bought out by Federated in the 90s. Now I finally understand why I started getting a monthly pension from Macy's when I turned 65.
Alot of people don't care about Macy's unless they're getting perfume, makeup, or there's a clothing sale. And there are so many stores with better looking clothes and products that make up for skipping Macy's altogether. They also have no clue how to market or appeal to millennials. Between Amazon and just the explosion of great online sellers in general, Sephora/Ulta makeup stores, and more stylized or fast fashion retailers cropping up, Macy's doesn't hold much appeal. And the clothing is also overpriced most of the time with horrible customer service. Even looking at this comment section it's pretty clear Macy's is mosty riding on nostalgia at this point.
Everything is moving faster than ever online especially with automation technology There is still a need for in person shopping but get competitive online also.
Locked fitting rooms and bathrooms and more loss prevention staff than store clerks aren't inviting. They killed the charm of browsing from department to department.
I stopped shopping at Macy*s in the early 1990s. I had an issue with their credit card and the guy I spoke with was so incredibly rude that I decided to close my account and never set foot in any of their stores. Their customer service over the phone was non-existant, really.
You are not the only one. I had not realized that they bought out Filenes in Boston because I moved to California before they did it, but I remember they completely destroyed Jordan Marsh when I was there and I stopped shopping there. Two of the four major retailers in the area? Perhaps oversaturation was also a factor. And they were rude. They were Hannibal Lecter comes back and eats you kind of rude.
SM is innovative, compared to Macy’s. SM are almost like Target Stores here in the US with there modern layout, cheap prices, accept they have a lot of employees to stop people from stealing lol. The economy in the Philippines is different so it does make sense why SM keeps expanding and building new malls, but the US economy hasn’t been like that in almost 20-30 years.
hudson's not macy's In 1924, two months prior to rival Macy's, it staged its first Thanksgiving Parade, now called America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit now the oldest continued parade in america
Hey be grateful that Hudson AKA Target AKA Tarjay is doing well while Macy's is sinking just like its founder did on the Titanic. But TBH no one outside Detroit watches that parade. Macy's parade is synonymous with smelling turkey and Lipton bean casserole bake in the oven.
Crazy how if your family was in a major city before 1930, they not only had hella exposure to historic events but also gave a leg up to their descendants. Who can just say their ancestors died in the Titanic?
@3:23 - The beginning of the end. Rebranding these historic names and removing the unique local character was a major mistake. When people travel, they want to shop at stores with a regional character. The things behind the scenes could have been unified but Macys = Meh.
Little bit late but jc penny should of gone with the plan to make stores almost full staffed by AI and robots . Home Depot and Lowe's are going to slowly phase out human workers .
I stopped shopping at Macys back in 2016 once they criticized the president. I have not returned since. I do not want companies to preach politics to me. Make a good product at a good price and try and keep your customers happy. I’m not interested in any company’s woke preaching.

All small business in New York City are flickering.
I'm about to close my small business because my landlord doesn't want to cut the rent.
I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope everything will works out no matter what happens🙏🏾.
It’s sad that the large businesses are working and profiting yet small ones like yours are dying 😢

I bet you all that hundreds and maybe thousands will show up physically at the 2020 parade site.
@Aaron Fridays there is still a physical parade, but it’s a different and much shorter route
😥It would be sad to lose an American icon like Macy's.
Hello nice to meet you , how are you doing today?
Macy’s acquired John Wannamaker and changed the character of the Philadelphia store.

Yeah. CNBC is so far ahead of WSJ on UA-cam contents.

Wow! I'm thinking of going to Macy's at 34th st Herald Square in 2 days on Friday, hoping they have bigger sales in store than on their website.
2:19 Is this video on UA-cam or was this taken straight from the archives?
The nostalgia is strong seeing Queens Place Mall.
I was wondering if that was the Queens Place mall! I used to go there when I was young. Thanks for confirming.
I ❤ Macy's 😘❤🤗🇱🇷
Hello nice to meet you , how are you doing today?
@StonkSlayd Fine thank you
@StonkSlayd Where are you from, and how is the weather over there?
Most people don't buy $1200 coats online as material quality/fit are critical . The online presence does mot feel like a 'destination'.
I spent 3 hours in the store trying to use a $25 gift certificate.
There was overpriced and underwhelming merchandise.
I remember well "Mother Macy's" Union Square SF the 1980's. It had everything. That was quite a heyday.
I stopped shopping at Macy*s in the early 1990s. I had an issue with their credit card and the guy I spoke with was so incredibly rude that I decided to close my account and never set foot in any of their stores. Their customer service over the phone was non-existant, really.

Macys sucks. The company devoured regional stores around the country that people were personally invested in. I won't be sad if they die.
