Kukis living in Nagaland are not recognised as one of the Nagas tribes. There are 14 recognised Naga tribe in Nagaland and there are four Recognised Schedule tribes of Nagaland, they are Kuki, Kacharis, Garo and Mikirs. These four tribes although indegenous to nagaland cannot be recognised as one of the Naga tribes in Nagaland.
So kukis living in nagaland are kukis and not nagas.
Yes, Kukis are also correct, they must have their own freedom. Kukis are also Christian and Nagas are also Christian in God's family. Therefore, we shall love each other. We are not enemies by the way. Kukis are kind hearted people in every where they are. Kukis are good people....

My respects and sympathy to the Kuki tribe. But he spoke well for everyone and for himself.
The funny thing is Meiteis want to deligitimise the Naga identity and would prefer to use the many Tribe names instead of the collective Name Naga. However when it comes to the issue of land they'd like to refer to the hill people as a homogeneous group who occupies some 80% of the land area.
When thadou tribe tried to put paite tribe under kuki nomenclature, war broke out and led to deaths of many. Read thadou-paite clash.
The name of Naga is given by the British at the beginning of the 1900s.., shame on u... u don't have the brain to name your own collective name. There is no historical interaction, similarity among the tribes of Nagaland and Manipur. But, there is a binding of culturally, religion, many solidarities and depended are among the Valley and Hilly people. Do some research on this and then argued.
Naga is pseudo identity...different languages , different tradition and dress. Anyone even bihari nepali can become naga based on loose similarities on food, traditions and living style. That is all.
Khuraijam Athouba claiming that larger Naga communities are suppressing the smaller Naga communities and 'they' (Meiteis) are trying to accommodate this smaller Naga communities to give rational share and privilege, clearly stated the intention of the Meiteis to create hatred and division among the Naga communities.
Let us keep aside the issues of autonomy for the Nagas of Manipur vis-a-vis GoI and NSCN talks and delimitation for a while, Athouba please answer, why do the Meiteis opposed the 6th scheduled for the hills peoples of Manipur? why Meiteis are opposing the democratic rights of the hills peoples?

I agree to Mr Haokip.... there shud be equal representation in the assembly and equal development of the state.... At the same time, there shud be equal sharing of land and resources of the state be it hills or valley amongst the ethnic communities.... 10% valley for everyone though mostly occupied by meiteis where 90% exclusively for tribals is also unfair.... Both the tribals and Meiteis are required to make sacrifices on their sides .... it is also time to focus more on how the state n its people can prosper.... but as long as we are stuck with ethnic politics, we r goin nowhere
Dr. Mao's clearification of Meiteis' enjoying lion's share in State Assembly and their manipulations in different fields e, g manipulations in educational admissions, Govt. job recruitments, CSSs' delayed/ twisted implementations, etc. could be highly justified. Mr.Elu Ndang & Mr Theja Therie are upright to say that Nagas deserve to be integrated into single administrative-unit to live as an honourable race and Meiteis had been obstacles for Nagas in Manipur to live as respectable hill people. Mr. Athouba's desperate utterance of Nagas' aspiration as just political ambition could be teaching of senior Meiteis and his Meitei-protective-arguments are humourous.

Whatever be the case there is a need for Kukis and Nagas of Manipur to stop the hatred and time to find common ground. Nothing will be handed on a silver plate. No ethnic group is a Saint. It is just human nature to look out for our own interest and try to dominate the rest. Peace and stability would come only when each group has enough political and economic power and when everyone respects the other.
The speaker that represent cocom should speak something that makes sense. Complete denying the existence of Nagas in Manipur is none sense. Nobody will buy it. This is just a rhetoric, no one is going to take seriously.

Kudos for pointing out the fact that Many "old Kuki Tribes (like Anal, Lamkang, Maring, Chothe, etc.)" as coined in many literatures were/are infacts the Kukis.... and NOT Nagas.... They are forcibly made to identify themselves as one of the Naga tribes through Gun-power only.
Atleast, Meetei leaders shouldn't be against creations of Territorial Council for the Kukis and Nagas, provided such TC doesn't alter present Manipur's boundaries.

Dr Xavier Mao seems to be a Mao Zedong's disciple rather than a professor. His last comment about China-Naga nexus is cringy. Rest of the panelist are political figures and I can understan whereas he is a professor with such a radical outlook. If I were his student and not of his tribe I would be careful of joining his class. He might be very biased against anyone except his tribe even in student grading.
