    • @jonny2954
      @jonny2954 6 років тому +1

      Nah, only when APS come in and your missile is totally useless against a tank. Aditionally that tank that you just fired your useless missile at calculates your position in milliseconds and you meet airburst. Being a grunt really sucks these days, however mechanised infantry is more versatile and powerful than ever. Sadly neither the US Army nor the Marine corps have proper mechanised infantry.

      I saw a video where a small proximity/timed shell of some kind was fired at a window on the second floor. It predictably burst in mid air just as it passed inside the window frame. No more blowing apart the outside of the building to breach the concrete blocks, or a round passing unimpeded through a window and leaving through the first room and into another unintended room somewhere behind it. That's useful for reducing "collateral damage" deaths to someone who didn't deserve it.

    • @Sara-L
      @Sara-L 6 років тому +45

      In situations where there's hostages in the area, you don't want a lethal air-burst round.. It's not intended to reduce collateral damage. It's a saturation weapon to eliminate hidden enemies and to saturate the target area with shrapnel.

      well theoreticly germany could deliver Puma IFV or KF-41 Lynx to Ukraine.
      Puma and Lynx do exactly this and is currently the most modern and powerful IFV around, but Puma it is optimised and tailored for the german army, so nobody else buys it....
      Problem is: Puma is quite advanced tech and the Bundeswehr struggles to maintain it properly (this is due to budgetary cuts etc that cut maintenance units and spare part purchases).
      Ukraine wouldnt be able to maintain them in the field.
      Lynx is not that much better in that regard.
      Dont think that the Bushmaster System is service ready by now.
      The german "AHEAD" system is in german service since around 2008 and on an IFV since 2011 and used on the Milenium Gun Revolver Cannon (27, 30 and 35mm caliber) and the MK30-2ABM.

      That data is for ideal conditions. Ballistics test data always present ideal "laboratory" conditions, that VERY often do not match their actual combat stats.
      Actual spread of a weapon in a changing wind/temperature/humidity environment is very different from those posted by the manufacturer of the armament. Ammo quality is also one thing, slight variations in it will not be noticeable in common general use, however when you aim for that kind of precision (apple at 100yrds) a few grams to the projectile or its propellant can deviate it off intended target.
      This is all common in actual usage, which is not modeled by the laboratory "sterile" tests.
      I do believe the manufacturer's provided data, but if you would offer me a million dollars to place an apple on my head and shoot 10 rounds out of this cannon at it, from 100 yards in windy conditions - I'd absolutely refuse it without any smallest doubt.
      This weapons platform is simply not intended for such precision. Effective range and reliable shot placement is a different thing. An M-4 is effective at 500 meters, however I wouldn't bet my money on that kind of kill happening in actual combat use.
      Combat proven systems and combat derived performance data is the only data you can reliably trust.
      Just my 2 cents.

    Terrifying to think the A10 shoots a 30mm round. I was told by an f-18 pilot they can take out entire buildings strafing with 20 mm war shot.
