    I can see this mechanic has worked professionally on these engines. He knows the steps to prepare for quick disassembly without delays. For those overheating consider also the radiator as the problem.

    A lot of M62 drivers switch to the 88°C 740d thermostate in combination with a dummy connector for the cable. The whole system runs cooler, less pressurized and the mapping for the engine is in „power mode“ immediately. Because the system runs with less pressure, the radiator is less prone for breaking, what happens quite often to high mileage M62s...

    Really appreciate the awesome how to video! Yeah you were right in saving money. Local independent mechanic wanted $250.00 in labor alone to do this fix for me and said it would take a couple of hours. I can't imagine how much he would have charged me for the part since this particular mechanic said he makes his money through buying and installing parts only through him. I paid $50.00 for the Behr thermostat through rock auto and I'm going to assume the mechanic would have charged me twice that amount. This video easily saved me $350.00 in doing it myself.

    Excellent tutorial I was able to do it soup to nuts in about an hour and twenty minutes. That is also with a hip I had just had replaced in the past four weeks. It was the most strenuous thing I have done in the past month. Thank you very much. Oh one thing when replacing the thermostat make sure you tell people to take the O rings off the old thermostat and put it on the new one. Other wise fluid will leak out. Other than that perfect!

    Thank you!
    When starting my Temp gauge pegs all the way to the right and stays there!
    After seeing this video and using my OBD2 scanner!
    I had Code P1550 and P0116 which translates to Temp Senor 1 on my 1998 540ia.
    Which is the Thermostat Temp sensor.
    I ordered the whole assembly, in my case it is BMW part 11531437526 for 1998 E39 M62 engine.
    Thanks again great video.
    Ron

    Question: do you like to use a cooler thermostat? I see those 88C tstats and wonder do you think the car running cooler really helps the guides, oil separator, etc? Or just stick with stock 105c tstat?

    • @BMWorks_NL
      @BMWorks_NL  4 роки тому +1

      vosedon water temp doesn’t effect the oil temp that always stays the same ;)

      @@BMWorks_NL I see thank you for the fast reply. I need to stop looking at the forums that go over board on the fact the M62 runs too hot and will attack the integrity of the engine components. I stick with the stock set up ...I love your videos,, Merry Christmas!

    My 2000 BMW 740il randomly puts out a little heat for a brief duration, but otherwise there is no heat. I am trying to figure out the problem before the weather gets too cold. The blower is working and, like I said heat can be detected. Any ideas? I also noticed in the past-the winter before last-that it would put out cold air when the car is at a stop but heat back up while in motion. I'd appreciate some input, thank you!

    Very informative! A+ My 95 only heats up when not moving. Once heat button is pushed on the engine temp goes down to 1/4 and car runs like crap and wont shift correctly. Wonder if replacement of the sensor will correct this?

    excellent video, thanks. Do you have suggestions for replacing the hose on the left side of the thermostat. its really stuborn? have to reuse the o ring and plastic ferule as these did not come with the part. they are in good nic.

    I have a 2001 740IL sport. My temperature gage is going up and back to the middle. Does that mean my thermostat is not opening up? It hasn’t ran hot. I need some insight

      Raheem Foster sure, quite simple you have air in the system, bleed and burp the system

    Great video... I've replaced my thermostat... and I still have serious overheating issues. Either my thermostat is bad (coincidence), or the thermo cable needs replacing. My guess is it's the cable. Do you know where I can get one?

    • @gunnarMyTube
      @gunnarMyTube 9 років тому

      Tom Wolf The thermo cable only works to open the thermostat earlier at load conditions. I would suspect the radiator.
