      Hi Jason. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Sorry for the late reply. Just google "Mini folding camp table" and you'll find the same as mine. There all the same just re-branded by different companies. I got a no name one from Aliexpress.

      Thanks a heap Jeff. Yes, I take no notice of negative comments. I haven't posted any vids for some time due to house renovations and other commitments getting in the way. Renos are done and I have some vids planed soon. Thanks again for watching.

    I have exactly the same things including the table and the Opinel knife lol, I bought the table several years ago, took forever to get here, that was when it first came out and I liked it so much I have 3 now, they were very inexpensive then although well constructed and I use them camping, picnics, beach etc. The only thing I need are the beads and I’ll make some chicken pieces since is just for me it would be too much left over. Excellent video thanks!

    Nice work Oz! I just received my baking kit for my 2 Qt Billy Pot to add to my other FBS products.
    It looks like a smaller chicken by just a little would have been perfect, giving it a little more air circulation at the top, but cutting out the backbone helped. Great idea on the ceramic beads, I could probably pick up some of those at a craft store.
    Heat management - How many times did you have to add more charcoal? And what was the total number of charcoal briquettes used, other than the lump charcoal used on the top?
    One last question some others asked, what is the name of and where did you get it your small folding table?

    • @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube
      @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube  2 роки тому

      Hi Larry. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Sorry for the late reply. Great questions...
      Ceramic beads - I got mine from the local supermarket / grocery store. Cheap as chips.
      Heat management - As you know the Firebox is an extremely efficient stove. I started off with 24 briquettes and only added the additional two that you would have seen in the vid. You could probably get away with using less.
      Folding table - Just google "Mini folding camp table" and you'll find the same as mine. There all the same just re-branded by different companies. I got a no name one from Aliexpress.

      @@OzzieOutdoorsyoutube - I was googling ceramic beads, thinking I could get them at a hobby store. What I found were ceramic “pie weights“. used for “blind baking”. Apparently if you bake a pie crust with no filling, the steam will make it puff up and deflate making a wrinkly mess. The pie weights weigh it down preventing puffing and deflating.
      The next thing I was thinking of is the Ceramic beads rolling around and possibly losing some. Here is a thought I had - Drilling a hole in each of the beads and threading and knotting each bead using thin flexible wire to hold them all together, making it easier to use and not lose.
      I found a folding aluminum table weighing only 10 ounces on Amazon.

    Nice! I'm wondering if you get any smoky flavor inside the pot with the chicken, or does it seal up too tightly for that?

    • @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube
      @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube  2 роки тому

      Hi Latigo. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Sorry for the late reply. No smoky flavor inside the pot unfortunately. I've seen "liquid smoke" available from stores. I guess you could use a little of this to produce an artificial smoke favor. I've never used it myself.

    Awesome. I put a piece of tin foil over the top of the chicken to keep from burning then removed it the little bit to get it browned up real nice. Also what's inside that home made fire starter?

    • @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube
      @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube  3 роки тому +6

      Thanks for the comment Jason. Great tip re the foil on top. I will definitely try that next time. The home fire starter is a egg carton section filled with fat wood shavings. I then pour in melted paraffin wax and stick a cotton bud on top while its still in liquid form. I then smear the cotton bud in petroleum jelly to make it easily light able from a ferro rod. Sure, it sounds like a lot of work but if you make a heap at one time its worth it. They burn for a very long time and burn cleanly. I might make a DIY vid one day.

    Elapsed time?

    • @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube
      @OzzieOutdoorsyoutube  3 роки тому +5

      Was about 1:15 in the end. Could have been quicker if fire temp was higher. I was taking it slow it ensure it didn't burn.

      Everyone should practice with their gear. Then when you need to use it for camping or when the power is out, you know that you can use it for real.
      My electric was just out for two days after a snow storm. I had several options ready to cook with until service was restored.
      A roasted chicken is a much nicer dinner than Mountain House freeze dried food.
