I love the Jules Verne aspect of explorer yachts, specifically the concept of taking civilized comforts and pursuits into uncivilized places. The combination of technology, adventure, and a candlelight dinner at anchor tickles my imagination, even if I'll never have the pocket-depth required. Being allowed to see into the design and construction process of Ragnar is richly satisfying, so thanks!
Hi David. My father was a master on a new standby vessel. Global positioning. Helicopter pad. . These vessels provide a great proven platform for a yacht capable of any sea conditions as well as being adaptable to the client needs. Great follow on video.
Thank you for making this video, and thanks to Icon and the owner for letting you document the conversion process. Fascinating and tempting! Your speech at the end about customizing a yacht to the passions of a life is crucial. When I think about the typical yacht, no matter how upscale, I just wanna yawn -- I can only lay about drinking toddies for about one afternoon, then it's time to DO something, to relate personally with Nature. This vessel has real purpose, built for an owner and crew who are using it to expand their purpose as well, in the workings of a world. Now that's a yacht I can respect!
I fell in love with Ragnar when I saw the drawings and design specs. Now that she is coming to life she is even more beautiful. Polar class yachts have always been my dream class. The ability to go where few dare to tread is the essence of exploration. Going in style and comfort is a bonus.
Well, then. I know it's 'merely' a research vessel, but I *want* to spend some time on her. And the things/details that Icon have thought about and put into it... To see what it once was and then seeing it slowly take the form of what will - or even could - be, makes this something to behold. Perfectly named. May very well become an icon itself. Can't wait for the next update.
This is the project I’m most interested in, and I’m so glad you’re reporting on its development. The idea of repurposing an existing vessel 🚢 and turning it into something new is a fantastic idea. I think someone has already commented that we’ll no doubt see this happening with military ships... which I can’t wait to see!
Was waiting for this update. Great video, but the Slush Puppies are what got me. Mmmm... Slush Puppies. It’s really amazing to see the thought and craftsmanship that goes into the serviceability of the yacht with all of the service access. For a tech like me that is a welcomed sight. Thanks for the informative video David.
This is an amazing vessel and the bow design will go through every condition it will encounter. Love this channel and you're correct about building to suit your passions.
Nice to see you once again David! 'Ragnar' is just one of those ships that you either fall deeply in love with; or you absolutely cannot wrap your head around her. As a functioning Explorer she would be perfect....but just can't see her arriving at 4 knots in Monaco. Take care, will look for you on here again soon! Cheers! Ken
My honest opinion on ice breaking yachts will be exciting for the owner BUT after going to those far places the desire to return over and over may dwindle! On the other hand going to the Mediterranean is seas you will want to return to on many occasions! Its amazing a yacht can go to those places but practically i dont think its something id spend massive amounts of money on if i had it! I guess im saying they are probably a bit of a novelty! Give me a ferritti 850 and i have a machine that will bring endless summer trips with my family and friends in privacy ! No crew ill captain myself! Full privacy is key for me i dont want crew just family and friends only! Ice hulled vessels are great for scientists studying those remote areas but im happy in the warmer climates! Interesting video as always David! ⚓🛥
At last, thank you so much for the update, Interesting that the crew are not overlooked and the Dutch regulations (which should be an industry standard) afford them a reasonable amount of quality in their daily routines. The imagination that takes a supply vessel and turns it into what will surely be the worlds most unique yacht is a thing of genius,to be able to see through the now and into the future is a rare gift indeed. Looking forward to the next update, another excellent video.
Yes you're back! Explore Yacht..... so functional and all around awesome yacht. But the fact that it has such a low draft (for it size). I just asking myself "can it get any better?"....I think not . And now that I have said that just watch you post a video next week of something even more awesome.
I think it’s only the first of many other. Recycling old yachts or vessels in something new is a clever idea (that’s more than a simple “refit”) and it as to be more developed in the boat industry
David, I'm just guessing that this project wins refit of the year by every boating outlet worth their salt! There has to be a way for it to take more than just one category though. I can't wait to see the interior and the bridge when fitted out. Great work as you set the bar fairly high.
A flying yatcht would be interesting solar powered like a blimp with boat dingys and ultralites that can be lowered to explore. Have a tanker set up for refueling and supply ship and exchangeing passengers and docking station
Extraordinary narrating, as for the yacht itself, it looks very promising, how much would the monthly installments come up to, at 1.1/2 percent annually?, thank you for showing.
Nice design with a long deck. This shape is nice for flying with jet engine. My concept is amphibious Airbus Concept what have a glass deck in 2nd floor. And I'd like to add mega yacht interior.
This yacht is amazingly well thought out, and so complex. I wonder who it’s deep pocketed ‘intended’ owner is... Mr. & Mrs. Claus? Great crew quarters for the ‘Elves’. Thanks for the video.
David is back!!!! Hope you were not working the whole time but had time for some holidays with your family over Easter. If Ragnar will sail under the Dutch flag, may i hazard a guess : could it be, that the owner is the same one (previously) owning Legend and Sherakhan? Can't wait until she will be finished. I like as well the idea of converting an AHT /Support Vessel into a private yacht. The prices of these used and well designed, stable professional AHT/ vessels are usually comparable low. Hence converting them into private yachts is something i wokld like to see more often. But i'm not sure regarding the fuel which is used (mpg, litre/nm). Guess such a vessel/yacht is pretty thirsty.
This boat is so confusing, each time I see anything about it I initially think 'thats awful, an oil tanker going in reverse'. But the more in depth I understand its concept the more I love it.
Hi Jay, I’m due to go back mid September. The yard closed for a couple of weeks in August and there is also an important job being done on Ragnar that can’t be disturbed. You’ll see what it is in the next video!
The owner best keep his wife far away. I saw a guy try to do a yacht conversion, the shipyard making last minute changes to please her, drove him into bankruptcy. The project never got finished.
...... won't moving the crane to the stern cause the stern to become unstable under heavy use? Granted...the owner most likely won't be lifting 20 ton objects as he could with the crane in it's original position but to have it at the stern could sink the stern or cause metal fatigue?
Most likely Ragnar is a charter yacht, or it's for sale? If it was a private yacht it would be unlikely for a yacht broker (or yard) to release such videos?
I had a goofy idea borne of watching too much Walking Dead of getting a small support aircraft carrier with nuclear propulsion and converting most of the flight deck to a farm and having a small portion left for helicopter(s), and get all my animal protein from the ocean. That would be the best way to escape the zombie apocalypse. Looks like Icon had the same basic idea, just without the nuclear power. I can't wait to see the finished product. What billionaire commissioned this polar behemoth?
I'm surprised that the control systems are industrial analog, and not modern flatscreen electronics like we see on modern yachts and even in industrial applications now. It looks like some control room from the 1960's.
Looking forward to seeing it again in about 3 months time to see how it has progressed and a further insight as to what it will look like when complete, any word on who the owner is?
Things that give you so much joy and satisfaction; Paying you full and fair TAX ? I did not see a deck for that. These are big yachts , hard to miss. with a harpoon missile. Let's hope you are on board .
I have always liked the luxury and bling of these yacht videos. But recently I have become somewhat reluctant to these salesmen. They sell to Russian Oligarchs, who buy with bloodmoney, allegedly Ragnar as well. The shine and bling seems to fade in that grey light.
Stopping to take on a little polar ice for drinks in the Bahamas...1. Dude you owe me a new keyboard.2. That didn't work out so well for the Titanic...just saying.

This is the only yacht that everytime I see a video about, I watch. This is the Jeep of yachts.
Hi David. My father was a master on a new standby vessel. Global positioning. Helicopter pad. . These vessels provide a great proven platform for a yacht capable of any sea conditions as well as being adaptable to the client needs. Great follow on video.

A true vessel that will laugh at rough seas,,,,it's going to be a beautiful creation ,,,
Oh, I am so excited to follow this yacht.
I wish I was its owner and that I never had to set my foot on land ever again. What a dream project!
I fell in love with Ragnar when I saw the drawings and design specs. Now that she is coming to life she is even more beautiful. Polar class yachts have always been my dream class. The ability to go where few dare to tread is the essence of exploration. Going in style and comfort is a bonus.
Hell yes this would be the kind of yacht I would want
What a fantastic vessel. It's nice to see something different yet functional.
She's going to be awesome! I can't wait to see her when she's complete.
Can’t wait to see this yachet completed.
Just getting into bed at just before midnight here... This pops up. Been waiting. Now to actually watch before properly commenting.
Well, then. I know it's 'merely' a research vessel, but I *want* to spend some time on her. And the things/details that Icon have thought about and put into it...

3 months???
Can't wait to see the progress David. Great update champ 👍

Update update update! Awesome video, hands down one of the coolest boats of all time!
Another great video Mr Seal.
Was waiting for this update. Great video, but the Slush Puppies are what got me.
Mmmm... Slush Puppies.

Thanks for the informative video David.
Spectacular design and function all so elegantly done. Looking forward to seeing the next updates!
Thanks
Is that an X-bow design? What a fantastic explorer yacht she's going to be! Can't wait to see the finished product!
This is really thinking outside the box. Look forward to seeing her progress.
Love a tour once it's finished! Thanks for the update.

This is by far the most interesting superyacht build ever! Can't wait to see it done.
My honest opinion on ice breaking yachts will be exciting for the owner BUT after going to those far places the desire to return over and over may dwindle! I can't wait to se comparisons between this and Rev Ocean! Exciting times indeed.
Great to have you back David!!!

I am speacless except: WOW WOW WOW 😍👍👌
can't wait to see her finished!!!
absolutely gorgeous!! I can,t wait for the next update.
Vikings who had great adventures and often "found" great fortunes. That's one way to put it
Yes you're back!
Explore Yacht..... so functional and all around awesome yacht. But the fact that it has such a low draft (for it size). I just asking myself "can it get any better?"....I think not . And now that I have said that just watch you post a video next week of something even more awesome.
About time, we were getting worried!!!
Thanks Gerard...we were overloaded with videos to produce. You'll be sick of the sight of me by this time next week!
Incredible vessel.
Absolutely a galley as the heart of the yacht.
Ah, nice to see that the captain is back at the helm of this channel! Love your videos.
Yes a stunning yacht. Cannot wait for the next installment.
Utterly fascinating project.
That´d be the yacht for me...
This is so interesting as I spent most of my sea going career on supply boats finally ending up as Chief Engineer
I think it’s only the first of many other. Recycling old yachts or vessels in something new is a clever idea (that’s more than a simple “refit”) and it as to be more developed in the boat industry
Very interesting David. Nice to have you back!!
Looking forward to your next update on her in 3 months.
Cheers.

This was super smart and now you have a $100 million yacht
Ragnar rocks!
A flying yatcht would be interesting solar powered like a blimp with boat dingys and ultralites that can be lowered to explore.
Have a tanker set up for refueling and supply ship and exchangeing passengers and docking station
i really like the idea of a utilitarian yacht. way more interesting
With a blue collar, working man's interior, like this; ua-cam.com/video/IvnLq_XDBuM/v-deo.html

I was going thru withdrawals David! But this vid was definitely worth the wait. Ragnar is a incredible yacht in the making
Extraordinary narrating, as for the yacht itself, it looks very promising, how much would the monthly installments come up to, at 1.1/2 percent annually?, thank you for showing.
I can't wait to see the finish product. :)peace
My favourite full stop.
Easily the coolest boat I've seen... just watching the video got me excited. Oh to have a few hudnred million dollars to spare:P
Amazing video, so interesting!
So David when is this exquisite vessel going to be up for sale? This is one of your best videos yet fantastic
Nice design with a long deck. This shape is nice for flying with jet engine. My concept is amphibious Airbus Concept what have a glass deck in 2nd floor. And I'd like to add mega yacht interior.
Was just thinking this morning, haven't seen a video from you in a while and up you pop with another interesting video :-)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I can't tell you how much I eat up videos you produce.!
This yacht is amazingly well thought out, and so complex. I wonder who it’s deep pocketed ‘intended’ owner is... Mr. & Mrs. Claus? Great crew quarters for the ‘Elves’. Thanks for the video.
Good stuff David..best at what u do bud...cant wait for the update..

I would love to see the proposed layout
Superb project can't wait to see it finished I am sure it will be absolute stunning. This one against SeaXplorer from Damen will be a great battle :)
A price comparison would make it even more interesting.....
So is there going to be an underwater wing that can be put down at the rear to get about 13% less fuel usage?
.... 11:26 .... it's almost 3 months Mr Seal ...... :) I LOVE THIS SUPERYACHT!!!!!!!!
Hi Jay, I’m due to go back mid September. The yard closed for a couple of weeks in August and there is also an important job being done on Ragnar that can’t be disturbed. You’ll see what it is in the next video!

Haha! This one is almost finished now. I’m in the airport at the moment on my way to film the next update video!
You should check out the damen seaxplorer yacths.

awesome
Looks like the ICON 280 project is on hold? Despite the recent price drop from 120 to 111 million euros?
Great design, great builder, great video! When are your returning to Harlingen?
Most likely Ragnar is a charter yacht, or it's for sale? If it was a private yacht it would be unlikely for a yacht broker (or yard) to release such videos?

Is this vessel going to be strictly personal use or is the owner going to charter it?
I think it’s just for personal use, but that may change after he takes delivery.
Does MR DAVID SEAL offer apprenticeships "pun intended" to interested people looking for an extremley challenging and interesting change of career ?
Looking forward to seeing it again in about 3 months time to see how it has progressed and a further insight as to what it will look like when complete, any word on who the owner is?
Perhaps it's a Verkerk project?
Things that give you so much joy and satisfaction; Paying you full and fair TAX ? I did not see a deck for that.
These are big yachts , hard to miss. with a harpoon missile. Let's hope you are on board .
At the beginning, I thought that Putin was talking about his new yacht at 7.55 minutes, but then I realized it was just like.
RAGNAR is now in Akureyri Iceland and have been here about week or so
nice
Been dying to see it completed. Is that ever gonna happen?
My future house for the artic
.... because of Global Warming?
@@kellingtonlink956, No, i like cold, and love this world, and hate humans, specially Americans, in general.
Go anywhere? the Dudley Tunnel might be a bit of a squeeze.
This comment made me laugh so much. You probably don’t know...but I was born in Dudley! I’d love to see Ragnarok there... but it’s not very likely!
If i want one now. How much down payment and when i get
There are a pair of ex NOAA oceanographic vessels in Seattle that are waiting for a similar conversion.....
I have always liked the luxury and bling of these yacht videos. But recently I have become somewhat reluctant to these salesmen. They sell to Russian Oligarchs, who buy with bloodmoney, allegedly Ragnar as well. The shine and bling seems to fade in that grey light.
California USCG sailor's brought my bartender, ice from Antarctica, after their deployment. He said it was the best ice he ever made drinks with.
what is the price of this kind of marvel please?
Vertical bows are all the rage these days.
this is how Thor builds those ships( thor ragnarok) during his break time
yeah sure if i had a few hundred extra million id like to own a yacht like that.
Pity the front end looks like a potato 🥔
Where have you been!!!??
Filming! We had a massive backlog of videos to edit. You’ll see lots of new content in the next few days/weeks!
Next RAGNAR episode?
September!
Can’t wait. 🙏🏻 I hope the fit out will be luxurious rather than utilitarian.
Stopping to take on a little polar ice for drinks in the Bahamas...1. Dude you owe me a new keyboard.2. That didn't work out so well for the Titanic...just saying.
Price?

Like!!!
Or just take a commercial vessel; convert it and save $20 million from a new build. And have twice the volume.
This is the yacht I would want if I was Jeff Bezos.
