One more thing, right at the beginning you see Astakhova crying, and you see her fall apart again after her floor. She was leading after compulsories, fell off the beam--a one point infraction then--and lost any hope of winning. And you notice Lyukhina was glum, she had for some reason taken a zero! But they moved to floor and ended up winning team going away. And Astakhova did pull up to bronze in all-around.
The other team appears to be the Dutch. It also looks like an intro was played for the USSR, but many teams did that on floor. Incredible find, I don't know how you do it!
Thanks for this. It is strange to see the music start before the routine started and end after the routine was fi nisjed. It must not have been a duduction then, as the Soviets had a live pianist with h could have easily prevented it. It. Was like this vault back then, you could take one step with no deduction!
Back then by the time gymnasts competed internationally they were usually at least 18. A competitive gymnast would usually end her career at around age 28-31. Years later you could be a world champion at 14 or 15 and end your career at about 20-22. The routines had become too hard on the body to be performed by women, as opposed to teenagers.
Love Joy I noticed this as well. I think maybe a couple judges took a tenth off but not sure. I saw a 9.7 and a 9.9... This is a wonderful find tho!! 😀
Such a beautiful display of true beauty, grace and femininity! So sad we have lost all of these in recent years... :(
Today gymnastics is so superhuman as if performed by cyborgs.

chocdave that is why she was often referred to as the Great Paulina Astakhova for so long.
I'm sure I can get the sudio synced, but even if not, wow, this is huge, huge, huge! Thank you!

When gymnasts earned points for dancing. Now it's not important.

I'm guessing that the audio and video are not quite in sync here, but I could be wrong. :-)
At this level of gymnastics you would have only needed to train for one hour a week.
UM, OMG!
that horse jump was pathetic ... -_-
Wow, back when they looked like actual women.
what does an actual woman look like? I'm curious

Thank you again for a wonderful upload. Latynina put her heel over the line before her last pass. I guess no deduction?
