The two issues with the G7X I was hoping they would fix is the autofocus noise and the poor audio (was hoping for an external mic jack) neither issues were fixed by Canon. Ridiculous... That star mode was cool. Great video, thank you.

Is there no power saving mode? I have heard that on the G7X (m1) the power saving mode turns off the screen when recording.

hello, can you do a review of stills on what canon claims has improved from mark 1. Everyone is doing video review only.
from canon: With digic 7 processor, focus is faster, noise sensitivity is better and can do bulb mode. ND filter is also auto so no need manual intervention. Flash can be tilted so no DIY. Details are more. Image stabilization improved by 1 stop. 8 fps raw buffer shooting which was one earlier. Macro is better as well.
If you do another update, can you have a look at the timelapse mode ? The manual talks about scenes1,2,3 and gives time ranges for these, but can you set actual shutter intervals as desired or just whatever Canon has programmed ? The MK1 had a very limited timelapse capability.
I haven't found shutter interval yet for timelapse. You can choose the scene modes which is stupid though because to change from 4 seconds to 5 I have to exit from scene 1 to scene 2 mode. then from 5-9 in scene 2. then from 10-30 in scene 3. Don't know who was the mastermind behind that.

great first hand demo, albeit a bit funny. seems like it has a good low light performance for a point and shoot, and the stabilization is superb compared to my sony which has both lens stabilization and IBIS, but still shaky
low light ok for fotos and outdoors, but it also has really bad and unreliable autofocus. Always manual focus for video is recommended. Half the price of Sony RX100 V though
I want to use a remote control shutter. I couldn't find one for cannon PowerShot G7X Mark II. Do you know which one can I use it for this camera?
Can you find any solution for the dead pixel in the left ?
Strangly it’s not always there, in some videos it is, in other’s it is. No way to control it.
hey there. looks like you have a hot pixel on the sensor (or screen). only noticed it when you went outside to do the low light video testing. kind of in the lower left quadrant.
ARGH yes, I did video recently with someone with a black shirt standing on the left lower section of the screen and there it was very prominently. Will have to get it repaired or replaced.
The canon g7x mark 2 has either Chinese or Japanese when I turn it on. I can't even set it up. I can't switch it to English because I don't know which option to choose for English, because it's all in Chinese or Japanese.
oy! open the manual (online pdf?) in english and count the tabs, walk your way through the menus to change language like that visually

+Kenneth and Joyce yeah, the sound sucks badly :-( in order to improve the sound you need to record it separately and then mix it together with video editing. Very troublesome.

At 4:17, Freelee... LOL I have a question for you. When I press the play button to see videos/images, the preview is very small in the upper left hand corner. How do I fix this so that the display of the playback image takes up the entire screen?
oy, it's raining outside and my camera is in my studio.. don't want to walk over there now.. hm, try the zoom lever on top (the one around the shutter button) or the DISP/down button on the control dial (the one next to the display) ?

oh yes, on the G7X II it's called INFO. I wondered about this right now (I checked a G7X screenshot to look up the button names)

the camera has no mic in :( you need to record the sound separately and then put video and sound together in editing

Just bought a canon g7x mark2 but i feel some strange vibration from camera body when pressing shutter. Probably of the lens trying to focus or is it the image Stabiliser? is this normal? Didn't feel any such moment with my D90

What is the reason that it will only charge with that certain type of USB plug you used and why didn't it charge when connected with your computer ? Sony and Olympus cameras easily charge via USB with anything , why is Canon different ?
maybe it needs USB 2.1 or USB 3.0 to charge, my computer has USB 2.0. If you have the money buy a Sony
I checked the manual it says it should charge with any computer but what causes confusion is that USB charging light won't come on . This is because the camera has to be turned on when charging with computer. Thus you only get the green light , apparently the camera is being charged when the green light is on. In other words altho there is no power only option with computers its still charging anytime you connect.

Is there any difference with the video quality on the g7x and the g7x mark 2 ?? Does the camera focus better then the g7x ?? And does the video quality look better on the g7x mark 2 ??????????
hm I don't have the Mark I, but from what I see in official Canon demo videos and from UA-camrs comparing those two the quality of the Mark II is indeed better. There's 3 years of technological advancement between those two cameras.. same 20.1MP 1"-type CMOS sensor, same 24-100mm equiv. F1.8-2.8 lens, but faster processor, better low light performance, facial recognition (Face ID), 1080/60p HD video, time lapse movie feature and more.. of course it's not a $5000 DSLR with a $1000 lens, but for a pocket camera it's super great, and I think better than the Mark I in many ways
Hey I wonder if you can help! I have a micro HDMI cable and want to connect it from my camera to my laptop to get a live feed, for videos etc. Do you know what software I would need to download? When I plug it in it it in my laptop it doesn't seem to recognise the camera.
I don't think that's possible, there's only the WIFI feed for taking photos via the Canon App on iOS and Android... read the manual.

interesting question... I myself never connected the G7X iI to my MacBook before. I just tried, and all it does is charging the battery. What is supposed to happen? I also just now opened iMovie with the camera connected, and I can import the movies from the Camera (usually I do this via the SD-Card slot and/or "Image Capture" app - got to celebrate the MacBook before Tim Cook totally destroys it). What app do you use to get that notification ?

there's some numbers going from 24-100 ... mm ... can dial.. and letter F going from F1.8 to F11 .. and in the corner it says 1/15 ... I can change it from BULB 30" to 1/2000 .. I have no idea what that means, but display definitely got lots of numbers

Hi, I have just purchased a Canon G7X Mk II and would like to know if it's possible to change the aperture, shutter speed and ISO during recording without first touching the touchscreen?
I would simply like to change the aperture by turning the Control Dial (as you are able to do before hitting the record button). The only way I can see to change aperture during recording is by first touching the screen and then turning the dial.

Dear Dave, I'm sorry but I don't know what "Aperture" is. Even less so in combination with video. I use this camera on Auto. I really should put more time into learning these things!! :-/

Hello. I would like to know if it is possible to use it as a webcam. Because I tried with the CamLink4K and the problem is that the camera sleep after 3 minutes!!!! It is incredible to not have the hand with this functionality to not stop it. Could you help me because I can't believe that this kind of camera of this price is not able to work as a simple webcam. please check the camera’s manual, or google, or the canon homepage. but I’m afraid the webcam function works only properly with the G7X Mark III... hopefully there will be a firmware update to fix this 3 minute problem

You know there's a switch that changes the lens ring from click-detended to silent-smooth. ;)
absolutely, and that's all what it does. you can switch from click to smooth for when you rotate the ring manually. it does not affect anything else.

Is there a sensor problem with your G7x m ii? there is a floating white speck on the scenes not seen at the start of your vid but towards the middle starting from when you do your star photography thing. Its very pronounced at 07:46 of the video at the bottom left.

check in the Settings, there's an option "Display Off" in the menu "Power Saving". I hope you can read

I'm looking to buy a g7x and I don't no which one to buy g7x mark 1 or g7x mark 2 which one do you recommend to buy
the g7x is 100-200 $ cheaper. However, the mark II is 3 years newer. I think 3 years is a lot for technology, and thus more fun to use. It's no different to any other technology. That having said, I'm writing this on a 2011 MacBook Air, which is still a very fine laptop. Therefore old does not equal bad. Your choice ! ;-)

Maybe, but honestly I didn't get it to work that way. I tried via Canon Connect and no chance. HDMA I don't know, haven't tried, doubt it. Anyone else got an answer?

Jah, I never got that to work. There might be a jailbreak firmware for this, but I don’t know. I ended up buying several Logitech webcams, which never had good quality. Sorry, I can’t help with that question

hi what battery do you recommend for the mark ii for streaming live. the battery that can be charge while the device is turned on.
Without jailbreak it can’t stream and can’t record more than 30 minutes in one go. Get 2 batteries and an external charger and you’re golden.

How to do you connect the g7x with a usb... Do I need a software? I need to transfer video files, I have been trying so hard with this camera but it's been impossible lately... Via wifi doesn't work at all and there are no tutorials with usb connect.
I usually plug the SD card into my MacBook, almost never use USB. Doesn't the camera show up in the "Image Capture" app or "iMovie" ?
Nope nothing pops up :/ I might just return the camera nothing is working and I have already put a lot of money and time into it.

jesus you people have really detailed questions 😅 pressing the shutter button will stop a recording that's running. You have to know that this is a budget point and shoot camera, not a full blown professional high end machine. I usually take screenshots from my movie recordings afterwards, which unfortunately looks kinda blurry.

The G7X II is very picky about it's energy source. Not all cables and sources work. Powerbank might work BUT camera always switches off when it's charging.
What software did you use to edit the video? Also what software to edit the outro with the letters? It was really cool!
+Silas Bondesen I used iMovie to edit. Letters are an iMovie effect. I guess on Windows that would be Windows MovieMaker.

I don't think that this works. You can use Quicktime to monitor your iPhone or iPad while recording. But for the G7X II Canon does not provide a video stream for recording. Not via HDMI and not via WLAN.

I usually just pop the SD card directly into the SD-Card slot in my MacBook Air, it's very convenient and seems to work perfectly.

good idea for on the go. Downside is you can't use the camera while charging via USB

Hi! How noisy is your camera when it focusing for taking pictures in Manual mode? I just got mine and it is very noisy when focusing. I mean I can hear as lenses moving inside when I focusing in M mode. It’ s kind disturbing, maybe I need to return camera. Please tell me, how noisy is yours g7x,?
it's very noise. And always focus problems. Nowadays I only use manual focus because too many problems with autofocus.

What are the settings to make your videos have 1080 HD 60 fps on the camera so when you upload them on UA-cam, it will show the video quality of 1080 HD 60 fps and not 720 HD 30 fps. I'm struggling to try to make that work for my videos. I use the wifi to import all of my photos and videos to my iPhone 7 plus. And I upload videos from my phone to the UA-cam app or the actual UA-cam website. And every time I upload a video it never shows the full quality I know the canon g7x mark ii can do. Can someone post a video tutorial step by step on how to resolve my issue? Please help if anyone is having the same issue!
I use the SD card slot of my MacBook Air 2011 to transfer files between SD cards and my MacBook Air. I edit with iMovie 11.

I have a question, me and my band are often recording songs for on youtube. With the settings im using, it's all the time pretty blurry, or out of focus once in a while, and not a nice sharp image (we are with the 3 of us) which settings can i use to get a really sharp image?
the only way to achieve this is with manual focus. the Canon G7X II has no reliable autofocus. it takes more planing but it's worth it. Btw, I just upgraded to the Sony A6400 with 18-135 kit lens, it's the same zoom range but a world better, super happy
