I'm 57. Recently hired by Collier Co. Sheriff's Office. Currently attending the academy among class with average age of 25. I'm doing great. I out PT and test higher than most. As stated in the video, if you have the desire, physical and mental ability meet hiring requirements and can pass screening tests then go for it. Best of luck. Thanks for the video. Update.. Graduated with honors. I'm a Florida certified deputy now, working and loving it.
I'm 51 going through the Academy now with mostly 20 something yrs olds. The PT was a challenge at first, but I've adjusted and I'm doing well. Hoping to land a job after Graduation. Thanks for the inspiration.
I am an active recruit at 59yrs. I have two graduate degrees and lots of life experience. I can qualify physically with decades of MMA experience. I can shoot very well but most importantly, I have the ability to remain level headed in stressful situations. I’m a good listener and people respect me. Being a cop is a whole lot more than being a physical specimen or a great marksman of coarse. It’s the ability to fulfill my responsibilities in stressful situations and taking in consideration the myriad factors to handle each call. It’s not my job to adjudicate the law it’s to collect facts and with reasonable certainty that a law has been broken to detain someone from their freedom. I don’t take this responsibility casually. I am a very big proponent of the Bill of Rights and our Constitution. We have a job to do and we must do it to the best of our abilities without Prejudice or preference. .
In Germany you can't be older than 36, but US doesn't have am age limit which is great,. It should matter if you have the necessary physical and mental fitness and can pass the tests, of course the personality should also be just as important, and the people doing the interviews are msinly also veteran detectives and have the skills to determine that better than any psychologist. Their experience gives them the ability to determine the honesty and character structure of applicants easily and should gave the authority to do so, regardless of age
Turning 45 this month and have been debating on if I could make the transition to police officer. I have a friend who has been doing it for close to 20 years now. And they said that it was shocking that I would make the move this late in the game. But I don’t take no to my age very well lol

I have a friend who's dad started his LE career in his mid 40's. He was a martial arts instructor who retired from his professional career at 46 (after 25+ years). He started within a large Country in Michigan and excelled up through the ranks because he had a vast array of life experience that helped the Dept grow and prosper. He was an awesome addition and have the utmost respect for him!
I retired from the military age 38 and became a deputy sheriff and retired at age 58 and was recruited for another agency and had to attend another academy and was the oldest person in the academy and passed with no problems I plan on only working until 62 or 66 years old or when I decide I can not perform safely in the job. I enjoy the job a lot and have a great Captain and Police Chief that actually care about their people.
Hey Ofc. 401, love your channel! I’m 51 and am currently going into wk 21 of the police academy in CT. I’ve watched your channel for over 2 years and it was in part what inspired me to go for it. I think as long as you are very physically fit, healthy, and mentally sharp you can definitely do it at an older age. Some departments do like to hire some older new officers mixed in with their younger ones for balance. Just be prepared to get razzed by the drill instructors! They were calling me Father Time and Old Man the first couple months, LOL! Despite that I was one of the top5 most fit of our class so I earned my place. It’s been a great experience. I can’t wait to get out on the street in my new career
401 my dude!! I love your videos man! I'm a truck driver and I want stories to hear so I just tune into your channel and gets me thru the day so thank you!

At 54, I was the oldest graduate in my academy class. 25 years military experience behind me and a few civilian jobs later... I’m back in uniform. While I agree that life experiences are an advantage, older candidates should have thick skin and a good sense of humor. If you’re healthy, motivated, and focused... you’ll succeed. I'm 29yo (30 in February) and going into the BLET academy this Aug here in NC. I'm already hired by a department and me being older was a huge factor that helped

Very motivational, thank you for this video brother.. especially when you said "..if you be a truck driver for 30yrs and suddenly decide I wanna be a cop.." spoke very much too me, because I am currently a volunteer with my local PD in Arizona and because volunteers make a lot of money (lol..) I AM actually a truck driver because it pays well and gives me the time I need for my Police Dept. But if I may explain further I just turned 49 a few days ago and because I am still german citizen, I have to wait a few more years until I'm eligible to apply to be a full time sworn officer. Sometimes I think I might be too old by the time everything falls into place, but seriously it was like you were talking to me directly when you made the "truck driver" point. Thank you very much for the motivation!

@@Bilbus7that was a joke but in Maryland at least its 21 because thats when you can carry a firearm Thanks for responding in a nice way and not calling me stupid like alot of people
@Voltron Defender of the Universe yeah that's crazy to think of an 18 year old kid asking to go to the bathroom at school to arresting people with the ability to use lethal force within the same year.
Im 27 and i am going through the process for Houston PD! I was starting to think I was too old to get into the field. But I am healthy and ready to serve! God bless you officer 401, may he always protect your path!
I was driving through Providence, RI and saw that they were hiring. I’m 44 so I searched “maximum age to become a cop” and your video was the first that popped up. Not sure if the “401” name of your channel is related to RI, but that is the area code for Providence (well all of RI actually)
I'd rather be policed by older people with actual life experiences then a 21 year old who still lives at home with mom and dad and was just handed a gun and a badge and is telling me how to act. And yes I'm a cop.
Im 33 and trying to go for California High way patrol. If that doesn't work, then I will try SO because I don't think age should be an issue as long as one is in good shape.
1:49 I always visualize your videos and that one had the most impact 😂. I’m trying my best to complete tasks that I’d never thought I’d do all it takes is repetition and patience.
My dad is in the military, Army to be more specific, and he wants to join the police force when he retires. He'll be in his mid to late 40s by the time he retires from the Army. He's never thought that he would be "too old" for it, especially because he'll be in a really good physical shape from being in the military.
I went through the academy at 38 and was the oldest in my class. There were dudes in the class before mine and after mine that were in their 50’s. Failure rate for older folks seemed about the same as younger folks. Either you can do it, or you can’t.
There is a show called, “The Rookie” on abc. Y’all would love it. This show is about a older guy who really didn’t know what to do with his life and through tough times and experience he found what to do with his life and became a police officer at the age of 40
I'm 29 and I've been doing xray inspection for the past 4 years. Before that I was a meat cutter for 5 years. I'm looking into getting into the academy. I think I can do it
Wish I could be but even when I was young I could not remember the laws or would not be able to do the reports. So I'll sit aside and support those who do. I have seen several of your videos wish many could be like you. I'm a friend of a retired officer as an investigator from a big city in my are. He is also a UA-cam creator. On machining not on guns just normal machining. Very nice guy. Hats off to all like yourself and others with your experience. Thank you.
My dad is 58 an still goes out on patrol. He was in the 2015 Baltimore Riots at 51. Worked 15 or so hour days for weeks in March 2020 when COVID first hit.
Thanks for this video. Honestly i felt like i was running out of time. And i am literally only 25. Just now going to school to get a degree and become a cop. All i have ever wanted to do.
Nice work in the video man, got two suggestions for a video if you'd like. First one is basically talking about mutual jurisdiction in a city, such as SO, PD, and state power in a certain area. And how do you guys communicate with other agencies on a radio, do you just request for dispatch to run a SO unit instead of PD, or are you granted access in their comms? Keep the great content coming, and stay safe.
tnx for that encouraging words...i'm 42 planning to apply...physically fit with military training and fire fighting background...wish me luck...tnx again...
This video got me thinking about those citizens on patrol. Do they have different training? What do they do? What's the age cutoff when they must retire?
KUDOS to your dad!! I agree with what you say here 100%. If you think you can do it, go for it! Mental attitude is a good part of it! Above all else, keep your weight in check so you can run after the bad guy if you need to. It's just healthier! Sheriff Joe in Phoenix was 80 when he left office. You can do anything you put your mind to! :-)
I started at 19... the academy started about 2 weeks after my 19th birthday. Went to the courthouse as a bailiff. My first day solo on patrol was about a week after my 21st birthday.
Turning 36 next month. Been in security field 10 years but since I was a kid I wanted to join up in law enforcement. I'm at a point in my life where I know LE is my calling. Now is my mission to make it happen. Gotta work on my running, but gonna make it happen. Thanks for reassuring me with this video officer401. You're an inspiration.
Talked to a bunch of departments and the number one problem is they can't get people to pass the piss test. That is for uniform and non, 25 years ago there would be 1000 people to take the written to get it down to 50 and then 10 plus 10 civil service list which 3/4 would already be certified working at another department. Now they get 50 to start and 45 fail the piss test right off the bat.
I'm 46 and I'm considering applying. My ex-wife is a police officer and one of my biggest life regrets is not pursuing a career in LE earlier. That being said, I'm most worried about the physical requirements of the academy. I am in TOP physical shape for my age, weighing in at 240 at 13% body fat. The only thing I am worried about is running long distance in the academy. My body is not for anything over about a mile. I have zero health issues and I've always been conscious of diet, nutrition and exercise. I can out perform people half my age....its just the damn running part of it.
Watching this on my break at chipotle. I'm only 20 in college still and am looking to join law enforcement afterwards. Love your vids man. Stay safe god bless 🙏
Question for 60 yr old Officer: what made you want to join the police force again at 60 years old and if you were denied what would you have done? How long do you want to be an officer now? Till youre 70?
Thank you for this. I’m considering submitting my application to join the police academy. Im 31 years old, a mom, college graduate, and have been a paralegal for some years now. This has been on my mind a while. Can you touch on women joining?? It may be silly but I’m nervous the men will treat me different.
I’ve been thinking about it for years. I’m in my late thirties and a Brit. My biggest concern is passing the fitness test. I’ve never been much of a runner. I might end up training to be a paramedic instead. The drive to work in the emergency services in strong.
I’m 42 years old, I’ve been working security for 15 years, and have been working as a community safety officer for almost a year. I’ve thought about becoming a RCMP police officer, but my age has been holding me back. Plus I have 4 kids, and the RCMP officers get transferred around every so often, so I wouldn’t want to uproot them or not be around.
I start the academy this week and met the people that are going to be in my class last week. And we had a pretty wide age range it. One guy was 38 and another had just turned 21.
I am pursuing my dream of becoming a law enforcement officer at age 45. Thank you for the words of motivation. But, u had my wife cracking up when u said "dont break a hip during PT".
I’m 27 and currently trying to become an officer in my city. I was nervous because I’m getting older but this video gave me motivation and I’m not worried about it anymore. Not gonna let age ruin my goals.
I'm early so I figured i'd give it a shot. I just had a question, when I am of legal age to become a police officer, should I just go for it? Or should I wait until i'm a bit older to mature some more? Thanks in advance, and thank you for your service.
That's up to you and your maturity level. I know 20 year olds that'd be great for this job...and I know people in their 40s that should never have pinned a badge.
I'm 32 and I've been a truck driver the past 11 plus years. In 2 years I want to become a cop. I was thinking would I be to old but I guess not. I wanted to be a cop my entire life and drive trucks so I figured why not try to do both.
I'm 43 and have a Boarder Patrol friend telling me I'd make a great local city cop. I'm currently a female who works with special needs kids at a local school. I have an injury to a wrist that had surgery. (Shattered and replaced with fake bone and metal anchor) would I still be hired able? My friend says he knows the chief and they are 5 guys down. Training id in March so it "gives me time to get ready". Could you explain some of the process? My understanding is that id be gone from family for 5 to 6 weeks to train then I'm assuming id have 12hr night shift (being a rookie) so what are most night shifts? 7pm to 7am? Could I come home get kids up for school? Just trying to gather info before making the decision. Any and all info would be great! I'm from Montana.
Hello I have a question I’m currently going to law enforcement school and I have 3 months till I get my bachelors degree in criminal investigations. My main thing i am a 13 year seizure free partial complex seizure patient and never had one since August of 05. I also have asthma. But only gets triggered by the flu. Can all those disqualify me from being a police officer and will OC training trigger an Asthma Attack?
What has your experience been with law enforcement recruiting officers that have autism? What has been your experience as a law enforcement officer with individuals on the autism spectrum? I know here in Hanover County we have one of the best law enforcement autism training programs in the entire Virginia state. I have been a Volunteer with my Sherriff's Office for awhile, but never gotten some outside perspective.
I'm 45..did 21 years in the military and retired..I thought about it but I don't know if I want to do another boot camp and technical training again..Which is what the Academy would more or less be...I got a gut and not as fast...
Hey, my names Alex, I’m going to try out in February. I’m going to be taking the written test. I use to smoke pot. I’ve been Clean for 6 months. How long should I wait before applying? in February I would have a year clean.
I’m 49 and I’m interested. I can’t run miles but I’m bouncer strong whip smart and have always been interested in how the criminal mind works and how to effectively remove the predators from our streets. I heard once if you’ve ever been arrested even for non violent crimes that you can’t be a cop. Is that true?
I was in the army and almost became a cop, but went truck driving for a few years.. now I’m looking at getting out of it and being a cop for the lifestyle change.
Im 60 and i can still run a full half a block by myself to the refrigerator and i can bench press a 12 pack a beer. When can i start work? And can i carry more than one bullet Andy?

Once you start saying "I'm too old for this shit" on a daily basis is when you're probably too old.

Thank you. I am just finishing academy in my 40s. It's just a calling. Some of us find it later. Thanks for your videos.
The real question it how young is to young to be a cop
Well it'll be the same answer; as long as you're capable of upholding all of those responsibilities, but a minimum of at least 18.
@@Bilbus7that was a joke but in Maryland at least its 21 because thats when you can carry a firearm
Thanks for responding in a nice way and not calling me stupid like alot of people
@@williamsheckels9636 No problem brother. That's interesting. Thanks for the info.
Some departments (only one I know is Wisconsin highway patrol) do 18
@Voltron Defender of the Universe yeah that's crazy to think of an 18 year old kid asking to go to the bathroom at school to arresting people with the ability to use lethal force within the same year.
I’m a month out from graduating academy and we have one guy who’s 47 and another 43
Im 27 and i am going through the process for Houston PD! I was starting to think I was too old to get into the field. But I am healthy and ready to serve! God bless you officer 401, may he always protect your path!
How hard was the written test? My friend is a cop I’m 26 going on 27 considering police force
My brother became a police officer at 👮 the age of 46, So! Great vid! Thanks.
In my academy class there was a guy who was 44 years old. He made it fine.
I’m 41 and beginning the POST certification process to look to join the Academy in the next year. 😎👍🏼
I’m stoked.
Refreshing to hear. I turn 36 this year and have really been thinking about becoming a police officer.
Old is when your body can’t take anymore physical work and desk work.
My dad is in the military, Army to be more specific, and he wants to join the police force when he retires. He'll be in his mid to late 40s by the time he retires from the Army. He's never thought that he would be "too old" for it, especially because he'll be in a really good physical shape from being in the military.
Favorite UA-camr 💙

I went through the academy at 38 and was the oldest in my class. There were dudes in the class before mine and after mine that were in their 50’s. Failure rate for older folks seemed about the same as younger folks. Either you can do it, or you can’t.
54 and just took a written exam and waiting to be invited to take the PAT with Tacoma PD. We will see!
To be honest I like the echo🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
Can you do a video on how you did report writing and what details should and shouldn’t be in it? Thanks, love the vids!
This video got me thinking about those citizens on patrol. Do they have different training? What do they do? What's the age cutoff when they must retire?
It’s never too late to follow your dreams. I’m 28 and applied for CO position. Put it off many times but I think this time I’m really going to do it.
Happy Cinco de Mayo, Officer401! You making more enchiladas?
No, I made a huge roast last night so...leftovers for me...and maybe a margarita later. :)
officer401 Sounds delicious! You’re making me hungry even though I just had lunch.
I needed to hear this. Thanks.
My dad is 67 and still with the sheriff's department. 46yrs in law enforcement
Jw time for him to throw the towel. At that point he’s just leeching off the department bud
@@irbeast69 YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE
A guy in our academy is 43 and one of our best recruits.
I am pursuing my dream of becoming a law enforcement officer at age 45. Thank you for the words of motivation. But, u had my wife cracking up when u said "dont break a hip during PT".
Thanks for answering my one question about LE.
Eggshell foam pads from the bedding section of Walmart will do the echo trick!
I’m 27 and currently trying to become an officer in my city. I was nervous because I’m getting older but this video gave me motivation and I’m not worried about it anymore. Not gonna let age ruin my goals.
I'm a fan of The Rookie so this would be interesting.
Finally found the video I was looking for. Thanks.
Thank you for your Service
I'm early so I figured i'd give it a shot. I just had a question, when I am of legal age to become a police officer, should I just go for it? Or should I wait until i'm a bit older to mature some more? Thanks in advance, and thank you for your service.
That's up to you and your maturity level. I know 20 year olds that'd be great for this job...and I know people in their 40s that should never have pinned a badge.
The fact that you question your maturity, displays maturity IMHO.
@@RudeDude2140 I agree!
Officer401 you are the man! Love all the videos you post! Keep it up!
I'm 45..did 21 years in the military and retired..I thought about it but I don't know if I want to do another boot camp and technical training again..Which is what the Academy would more or less be...I got a gut and not as fast...
"He has a backpack! Bang!" lol much too funny.
Hey, my names Alex, I’m going to try out in February. I’m going to be taking the written test. I use to smoke pot. I’ve been Clean for 6 months. How long should I wait before applying? in February I would have a year clean.
I’m 55 and in better physical condition that’s MOST 20 somethings. It’s just too negative of a job anymore, so I’ve been a baby sitter of bad guys.
