Tavy@ when i read jimmys autobiography in 2001 i think it was a great read. But there was alot in it that shocked me. Becouse i was too young to see jimmy play becouse i was born in 1973, so i just knew what i saw on the tv. And i didnt know he tried to sell all his medals and throphys for money to buy drink becouse he was that desperate. And his big collection was worth alot of money, but jimmy would have took a right robbing and maybe got a about £500 for them or less. And would have took it. So wullie haughey a true celtic die hard fan and good friend of jimmys and business man heard what was happening and stepped in to help jimmy. But wullie said ok jimmy i know your skint and on a bender but i cant sit and watch this happen. So what a will do is help you out with some money and i will hold on to your throphys for now, but you have to do something for me and thats in a week or two when you cant drink anymore becouse your to ill, i want you to get help for your drinking, no matter if you need to pay for rehab for a few month do it and i will pay the bill. So jimmy did do as wullie said and months later got his trophys back and i think he sold them years later becouse he was getting on and said they just collect dust. And jinky was sober for a good few year but had to earn money so that was the time to get good money for them, and it was wullie who bought them off jimmy for a really great offer. I think 40 grand he paid jimmy or 50 grand maybe more. But jimmy was well happy and wullie said i just couldnt let any one else have them plus gave jimmy the right price. And what saddend me was when jimmy had just stopped playing football in the early 1980s and didnt have much money or any at all wich sounds not right regarding what he had won in his career and played for. And with in a few months he had to take a hard labouring job on a building site for £90 a week. A couldnt get ma head round that. Billy mcneil about the same time had to sign on for unemployment benefit at his local labour exchange as it was known then. But said he found the whole experince totally humilating and was lucky it only lasted two months as man city asked him if he would manage them? Billy jumpend at it and that was that!
