- Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė was in Berlin Thursday for defense and security talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Support for Ukraine's war with Russia and German plans to station troops in Lithuania were on the agenda. After the meeting DW News spoke to Prime Minister Lithuanian Šimonytė.

There has been just few speculations especially during the recent election campaign, what to do if Putin called the new president. And in last October (2023) the firmer president Niinistö told that he would talk with Putin if it helped to achieve piece, but he saw nothing like this is going to happen in the near future.

Yeah, sadly a lot of people don't value it here in Lithuania. Most likely she will get replaced in the next election with the rest of her coalition and the rhetoric of our country will change to be softer towards russia. I hope I'm wrong though.

It's so refreshing to listen to a sophisticated yet clear-speaking national leader. The Baltic states seem to be in good hands. We just need to support them with our ability to project force and protection.
They have awoken to the likelihood that america will not hesitate to betray anyone . america could have had a huge , positive impact benefiting Ukraine with great ease but chose to ensure the ensuing bloodbath . I get that americans prefer to believe they are always the white hats , but the rest of the world sees things more clearly. I wish Ukraine had not had such a positive opinion of america ; at least the betrayal would have stung less.

So what is the preparation Lithuania is doing ? In 2023, it partially blockaded Kaliningrad till a Russian deputy said Lithuania's independence needs to be reviewed. Then Lithuania quietly climbed down to avoid a beating !
