It looks bloody hard country to ride. You did well. I love the use of everyday natural language with the odd expletive, it makes it all the more real. :)
@@theflyingkiwi4803 Thanks for you positive comment....... Its the process I love. Play in summer and edit in winter. Having said that some of my best rides are winter events. Cheers
Jeez, I don't think I've ever heard you puff so much, You can see why, and of course a broken rib and dislocated shoulder wouldn't help !! 4K makes a huge difference, so does the new mic. Great scenery, particularly the early morning footage. Look forward to more. 👍
Hi Lindsay, yes I was puffing for the wrong reasons. The dislocated shoulder was actually a severed rotator cuff and I tore a biscept muscle off my right shoulder. That happened up the Hopkins valley behind Lake Ohau. I'll get to that in a few episodes down the track. I'm pleased you notice the improvement my new mic makes. Thanks mate.
It was the hardest I've ever had to push myself and was all unnecessary if only I remembered the right fuel for the ole body. I should have known better. Thanks for your support Brett.
G'day Noel glad you enjoyed the video. There are places one wouldn't want to fall off ones bike... but I didn't get a say in the matter, as was the case when a passing rider took me out. Cheers
Thanks for your positives Brent. Hopefully I will arrive at the Otematata Tavern uninjured this time. Should be Feburary, watch this space and hi to Kirsty.
I love the opening shot Darryl. You mention you missed a lot of footage, but I think you captured the essence of the Dusty Butt well with what you took. Nice job. One thing is being bike fit and then maintaining that fitness while on these events. You make some excellent points about the electrolytes. Thanks, I didn’t know that. I enjoyed watching this episode on a Sunday morning with a cuppa.👍☕ That’s pretty gnarly country you tackled. No country for a big Africa Twin or GS. Well done mate. Hasn’t Josh done a good job with Adventure Guide? My good friend Troy of @TheBadIdeaBros is always on the lookout for the tokens. Check out his channel. A Tasmanian living in NZ and me being a Kiwi living in Tasmania LOL This is something we want to introduce to Ride the Byroads at some point.
Big things have little beginnings Darrel, thats not a bad idea. Maybe Josh could start a franchise in different countries.......lol. I'll watch that space. I rode the Africa Twin yesterday from Hasting up into the Waioeka Gorge then through the Motu Gorge rd to the Bay of Plenty then Back to Hastings the long way around via Cape Runaway and Gisborne. Started 6.30am and got home 10.45 last night with 972km on the clock. To make a point, I was weary but still had energy left because I had what I should have had doing the Dusty Butt ride.
@@kiwiadventurer WOW, Sounded like a fantastic trip Darryl. A big day mate. Is there going to be an episode coming from this trip, I do hope so.😀 I like your idea of a franchise.👍
Not so much phyically Mark, but technically challenging. Momentum is a big advantage because if for any reason you have to start again it can be difficult.
Thank you for your great videos. You are showing me parts of NZ that I didn't know existed. I'm looking forward to the next one you post.
Cheers Nicholas, I appreciate your kind comment and your support. I'm about to start the next episode.👍

Great footage, but some of those rocks look a bit nasty.

Sweeeeeeetttttttrrrrrrrrrrrdddddde ride Daryl and mates. Good footage. Not sure on map where you are but will do later.
Howdy Chris, sure is a cool ride and visually spectacular. Makes for a good change from riding the black stuff.
Its up behind the south side of Kurow Chris.
Good vid. And good effort.......Just wondering if have you done a bit of speel on that Garmin Zumo? i think that's what it is.
Hey Andy, you're right its a Garmon Zumo XT2...a wet one. I'm glad you liked the video, thanks for your support.
