- Meeting one of Kyoto’s Geisha is a magical and memorable experience.
They say that you are lucky if you can spot a Geisha in Japan since they are almost a disappearing tradition. Well, tonight we have been lucky enough to spot seven between Maiko and Geiko on their way to work.
I'm so impressed how fast and gorgeous they are!
What’s the difference between a Maiko and a Geiko?
Maiko wear colorful kimono and appear with their own hair worn up with a variety of extravagant hairpins, while geiko wear plainer kimono and appear wearing relatively unadorned wigs. Both maiko and geiko entertain guests and they often appear together at various functions.

Tips to spot a real Geisha in Japan: take a walk in Hanamikoji Dori, Gion area between 6 and 6:30pm.
What better way to end your day than enjoying a nice dinner at one of the many traditional restaurants in the area. Good Luck!

As other have said here, you must be discreet if you want to video record a geisha or a maiko. Filming people on the streets as if they are some kind of freaks is universally rude, and doing this in Japan is much worse. The wouldn't say anything just because they are much more polite than you. Here is my dislike.
