You don’t live in Norilsk. You watched some western propaganda. Both are propaganda, you will never know how Norilsk is like if you don’t live there. But the reality is 180000 people live in a 9 sq mile area.
The weird thing being living in that city is not so bad, but this is still propaganda but not as extreme as people think it is as it is not as depressing as people think
true, bratan, living in isolated city for 18 years makes it feel more unique. And also I would agree the city is not that depressing to live. Most of photos are made just in the areas of "shoking" places
Yeah, the city is awful and nightmarish, but taking into consideration it's world's northernmost city and also the extreme, almost cosmic atmosphere/weather conditions, it's still amazing that this city exists.
Lifespan is 10 years lower than in "mainland" Russia. One of the most polluted places on Earth. All business are controled by Norilsk mining. No roads connecting to mainland. It was a former goulag, though citizens are still imprisioned. Indeed, very good place to live!
It shows that even in the worst living conditions people can live good with all kinds of facilities. Thats necessary, because a lot of Russian resources come from this city and it is needed. If it wasn't need, who would you think would live there? Thats why they try to make the city more comfortable, so that it compensates for the harsh conditions
This is basically a NorNikel advertisement. The reality is very far from this bright image. Climate aside, Norilsk is amongst the worst places to live on this planet because of its ecology. The modern state of Norilsk ecology can be described only as an ecological disaster. The content of toxins in the Norilsk air is almost always 4-5 times higher than the maximum permissible concentration , reaching 25.8 MPC (nitrogen dioxide), 35.6 MPC (sulfur dioxide) and even 120 MPC (formaldehyd). Compared to Norilsk, Chernobyl is like a Central Park in NY. The tundra around Norilsk is dead. The soil - heavily polluted for ages. There are red rivers and acid lakes around the city. And as if that was not enough - in 2020 Norilsk became a site of the biggest oil spill in russian history, when 21000 tons of diesel polluted Ambarnaya river that flows into the Arctic ocean. The life expectancy in Norilsk region is 10 years lower than russian average level. And there is only one company to blame for all this - NorNikel.
Norilsk would be the eastern capital of a post-climate disaster world. +6 degrees warming and we have a world of only around 1 Billion humans fighting for survival at the poles. The new economy would be centered on arctic trade. Norilsk is in a prime position to become a sustainable metropolis, and a model for 22nd century living, should they play their cards right. Murmansk, Tromso, Nuuk, St. Petersburg and the Scandinavian capitals will be the main competitors of a +6 Degree world, yet Norilsk is in a unique position, as it is not too big right now and can develop sustainability while becoming the gateway to a new siberia infused with hundreds of millions of climate refugees building their own cities.
I realize this is a commercial, and not a very realistic picture of the City. But If the alternative is sitting isolated in a small wooden cabin in siberia with hundreds of miles to the nearest neighbor and nothing better to do than getting wasted on vodka every day? Yeah... I would rather live here. Have some friends, a community. Maybe get a girlfriend. Get a job, and a more meaningful day to day life. Earn some money, save up and maybe leave after a few years if we wanted something better...
You can call it propaganda, but the city is developing and expanding both economically and demographically. Ecology is an issue, like in any industrial town around the globe. At least people have a place to work.
"Come join us"... Yeah, right. What I've heard it's nearly impossible to visit the city if you're a foreigner (and are not connected to the mining industry in some way)... This English speaking video must be created for Russians then..?
John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Urban planning there is pretty bad. Building footprints and city blocks are too large, making for daunting foot travel along windswept corridors. It’s not like St Petersburg, contrary to the claim here.
@@tablesman ye i wish it wasnt as polluted otherwise it wouldn't be that bad. i don't get why they don't just move the factories farther away from the city cause the factory outlets are literally in the city. that's why its so polluted.

it's kind of the same format the americans use for all mars movies :)
Plot twist it's not space colony mining it's just Russia...
Russia was so ahead of it's time back in the good old days
This is wonderfully dystopian.
From the most depressing city to the most exciting, in 5 and a half minutes!
So what was the point to make the video with English audio and have unrelated text on it in Russian?
Because the original video was made in russian
