  • My BMW R1150 GS would not start off the button and the starter motor would struggle to turn the engine over. Sometimes it was fine but other times it would struggle to the point that it would trigger the relay to click and the clock to reset. It always run off a bump start so figured it wasn't anything dodgy.
To just make sure it wasn't the battery or generator, I put a charger on overnight and tried starting the next day.... I knew this wasn't the issue but just wanted to rule it out. As you saw, the starter motor was still struggling to turn over.
I tried to clean the starter motor out but it made no difference so ordered a new starter motor and fitted it :-).
My Motovlog and on-the-go charging setup:
    Helmet Gripper mount: amzn.to/3NdQ03F
    Purple Panda Microphone: amzn.to/42EbSeo
GoPro Battery Charger Power Bank charges my Phone and GoPro batteries while when I'm riding the: amzn.to/440MeBE
    Official GoPro Enduro Battery: amzn.to/43UBLYu

The old girl got what she needed and it makes a hell of a difference.
I’m annoyed I didn’t change the starter motor back when I thought about changing it as the failure meant we were bump starting the bike at every fuel stop and the start of every day from Monday to Thursday 😆 but it’s all part of the story and added a bit more fun to what was an enjoyable trip.
I’ve enjoyed my break and look forward to getting back in to making videos and learning along the way.
    Thanks for watching!

    Hey Mal,
As I mentioned to our friend unOrdinaryWorld, the R1150GS is going to be my future ride, and I watched your entire playlist-I loved every single video. Thanks for sharing all the mechanical work because I also enjoy working on my own bike.
I hope you keep posting videos because I’m really enjoying them and can’t wait to hear more updates about the GS.
    Big hug and safe rides!
PS: Now that I’ve finished your 29 videos, I’m diving into unOrdinaryWorld’s playlist, haha. I’m hooked.
    Peace! -✌🏻

@@morenachoz Hi Rui, I think it’s awesome that you’re getting a GS and I hope you enjoy working on it and riding it as much as I enjoy mine. I certainly will be bringing more videos and just want to say a big thanks for watching and sending your comment, it’s really appreciated.
Please let me know when you get your bike, it will be great to know how you enjoy it.
I’m currently working away from home so will commence the riding and filming again when I return in November - I’m really looking forward to it!
You’re going to enjoy Ferdia’s videos, he’s a great story teller and his videos just get better and better.

Its very interesting for me that you also have a T7, but you love to take this thing on roadtrips. I also have one and its a blast, lovely motorcycle. One question also, i recall you took it off as well with the metzelers. I am also curious but also a total off road noob, i am fairly tall tho. Good thing is that everything here is dry dirt so no worries about mud. Would you recommend it or rather avoid it. If i go, better go together with someone

      @@Bob-huisbaas hi Bob, I hope you’re well!
Yeah, it’s a funny one…. I really enjoy the T7 but I keep getting drawn back to the GS for the comfort and seating position. I like the fact I could stretch my legs over the boxer heads on the days when we were getting the miles in 😆.
The Metzeler tourance tyres done well in the dry dirt and loose gravel but the moment they touched anything that was slightly muddy they lost traction, so I’d say you’ll be safe as long as it’s dry. I Definitely recommend it, just take it slow and ride with someone as it’s a heavy bike to try and get off your leg if you have a bit of a mishap 👍🏻. Let me know how it goes 👌🏻
