Usually, the parts are split on a model so it can be 3D printed using a filament swap, such as an AMS / ERCF filament change tool. It's not that the model is broken and incorrect, it's more for the end user to define each object with its coloured filament. Granted, this fix is great for printing the model in one full colour in sections.
Yes, my friend. I know what you mean. But if you look at the clipped interior of that model, you will see that there are many redundant surfaces. They are a kind of defects, or we can say the model has not been completely finished by the modeler.
