BOSS Jocks…Radio England was a pale parody of American Top 40 radio stations of the 60s. Was never going to oust Radio London as the top UK pirate radio station.

Too slick for an English audience.

You could hear why this wouldn't have worked with a British audience still used to the old BBC Light Programme.
It was too much of a radical sound then, not sure if it would've worked today too.

Loved the pirates so did 90% of the UK.
BBC lost all its listeners, but the won in the end.

I see what Johnnie Walker meant about this style of presentation, didn't he sound weird having to talk like that?

Both stations lasted only 6 months or so before closing down. They sounded too American compared with the best: Radio London.

I couldn't stay away from the test transmissions on 355 metres. It was a great signal. Unfortunately, when it was switched to 227, it lost that special quality, and was never as good a signal, especially at night.

This was a cheap imitation of the kind of radio being heard in the u.s.a.
