We used All About Reading and Math with Confidence last year for kinder and now this year for first grade with my son and we love it! Both curriculums are thorough and hands on with lots of opportunity for practice. I hope you and your son like them this year!
Aw thanks so much! I’m really excited to do both! I think they’re going to be a really good fit. I just like the idea of not worrying about “is it enough?”, if you know what I mean. :)
We use AAR and TGTB LA. The LA says to spend 20 minutes on reading which is how long the AAR lessons are supposed to be, so it’s very reasonable and it’s worked great for both of my kiddos.
Wonderful update! Thank you very much for sharing! I'm like you: when I was growing up we never did schoolwork during the summer vacation. I love the Good and the Beautiful, many people use it as a supplement because they like it very much. I know your child will do great because you are taking all the necessary steps to provide for a good education! Many heavenly graces to all!
Another thing I’ve noticed speaking to friends TGTB really works for girls and boys do tend to struggle with it! I’m not sure exactly why it may have to do with the possibility that girls are generally better about remembering things.
Oh that’s so fun you’re doing the same curriculums too! And that’s an interesting observation. I do feel like kids need to pick things up pretty easily to thrive while doing TGTB so that would make sense to me.
My kindergartener is using Math With Confidence K/1, All About Reading Level 1, Explode the Code 1, and Kickstart Kindergarten from Handwriting Without Tears. We’ve tried Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, Phonics Pathways, and the Good and the Beautiful K. However, none of them have a clear progression, what to review and how often, and what mastery should look and sound like (in my opinion). I can’t use curriculum that bounces all over the place, or that introduces a concept to then never see it again. I’ve tried to use The Good and The Beautiful language arts with both of my kids and it just doesn’t work for either of them. I really desire to have what we use paired down to keep our homeschool simplistic and I think what we’ve picked for this year does just that. The amount of revisions we’ve made to what we’re using in the last nine weeks is kind of comical at this point lol. We’ve dropped down a level from where we started, cut stuff, added stuff, cut the things we just added, and I’ve tweaked my printable planning page at least twice a week, every week for the last nine weeks!! Oh, and I’ve reconsidered, pondered, questioned, researched, and then cried about all the mistakes I’ve made in the last two months. But thankfully God has helped me circle back around to what is important, and reminded me that I’m equipped, and that my kids are capable. I hope you’re able to make what you’re using work for y’all and that you have a great year!
Thank you so much for sharing! It’s very encouraging to know that we aren’t alone in changing our curriculum. But I totally agree that math with confidence and all about reading are just the most simple and straightforward and I love that I don’t have to doubt if it’s enough. But you’re right, ultimately at the end we just need to trust that God will use our efforts to make ends meet and help our kids succeed. Thanks for that reminder ❤️
We eased back into school Aug 26th. After Labor Day we will begin TGATB Preschool with my daughter and TGATb Kindergarten with my son. I am so excited to get into TGATB with my kiddos. I wouldn't mind a comparison. My son is pretty good with numbers and I have heard mixed things with TGATB math. We are going to try Kindergarten and I do have 1st grade downloaded but have been going back and forth between them and MWC.
So exciting!! Yeah I mean it honestly will just come down to how your children handle them both. They are both great curriculum. Some curriculums just fit better with certain kids I believe. Good luck with starting preschool and kindergarten!! :)
@@saltandlighthomeschool Thanks. It's hard being new at this and hearing all the comments about the curriculums, but you are right. It all depends on the child.

I do think they work well together. I’m excited to start back up with the 1st grade level after some review :)

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I do this we will keep TGTB language arts to some capacity because I just really do enjoy it ❤️
I love your updates because our boys are the exact same ages!
We are also doing AAR & MWC!
