Please tell me where to buy these books for Cambodia?

After TGaTB preschool you may enjoy Rod and Staff preschool workbooks. For K we enjoy CLE K2...it is a slow gentle peogram.

I am not one who learns by flashcards. They get in the way of the learning for me. So we started with TGATB, and that was not a good fit for my son. We switched to Pinwheels, and that started out good, but then it focused too much on writing and grammar, and not much on reading. Which is what my son needed help with. I finally purchased AAR 1 and it has been a huge hit- because as it turns iut my son DOES learn by flashcards. My newly 8 year old son is finally starting to click with reading. It was the complete opposite with his older sister who just started reading one day at age 6 so trying to find what works on the second go around has been a trip.

If it's 5 day a week program and you are going to do it once a week will you it for two years?

Eager to see how you will like it! I already received a science curriculum for this year (a random one on the give away shelf at co op) bur next year I would like to use either apologia or this one.

Good choices! My oldest will also be 1st grade this year . It's alot! Are you also doing health, art ,and music? We live in NY state so we have to cover those too . My husband is going to do the music subject with him

Do you bind the things you print yourself? Printing a Bible curriculum for my daughter and wasn’t sure if I could bring it somewhere to be bound or if I should invest in a binding system myself

We just started explode the code first time homeschooler and we just finished book a. it was great for my prekindergarten aged son, it’s basically been our only phonic program so far and I use it as his handwriting too. Super win here!

Hi Ashley! I enjoy watching you because you and your kids are one year ahead of us. In ages and in homeschool. I have a 4 year old son, a 2 year old son, and a 7 month old baby girl. We just completed my oldest son's preschool year. He and his younger brother will be turning 5 and 3 in the next month, and we'll be starting their kindergarten year and preschool/prek 3 year, respectively, this fall. This is our first year for explode the code as well. I'm excited for this year. I'm in the same boat. My daughter will be 4 in Sept and we are doing the preschool unit from TGATB and my son is in Kindergarten.

This was a great review! I used AAR with one of my kiddos, but it didn't end up being a great fit at that time, so he switched to Logic of English. That worked well for him. I began LOE with my next child but it moved very fast for him, so we switched to Pinwheels, which was great to reinforce some concepts, but eventually was overkill, once he had a more solid foundation. He is currently using TGATB level 2 and really enjoying it. I thought we would just use it as a supplement to reinforce and practice over the summer, and then return to the other program, but I am planning going to keep going with it because it's working quite well for him and he really enjoys the variety. I believe there is no perfect reading program that will be a great fit for every child.

This was so informative! It’s so refreshing to see how homeschooling actually looks day to day inside a normal family home! I’m about to start kindergarten at home with a 3 year old and 11 month old in tow (all boys!!) so glad I found your channel! :)

We ended homeschool in beginning of June for kindergarden but never finish some curriculum but I'm very okay with it. We been doing about 2 phonics lessons a week and a family craft a week. I have two other small children also and very hard to do any sort of projects lol we have been outside alot. I'm excited for 1st grade also but also nervous with the amount of work and also entertaining my other ones. We will also be starting prek. We finished first year of T ball will do swimming in fall I think and in a few weeks my 6 year old will do a week of VBS . Happy summer!

Love your videos! We just started our homeschool back up last week. We took more of a longer spring break instead of a summer break. (By the way I also have a homeschool channel)

We also just stopped school for the summer lol. The public school friends were out and we all needed a break so we put it all down and are about to pick it back up for the new school year!

I have been really interested in CLE, particularly for Bible! I love the idea of the smaller units and I have only heard good things! But it does look worksheet heavy and I think little hands get tired. You know I’m used to Abeka so we’re familiar with a lot of worksheets, but that’s one of the things I am not sure about if I were to try another curriculum because I am trying to not use ONLY the more traditional pieces 😂 I’m glad you gave us your thoughts on it! I’m glad you’re still liking Gather Round! I’ve been eyeing unit studies a lot lately haha. Thank you for your updates!!

Last year was our first year with preschool. This fall my son is in kindergarten and I am very excited to start a new year. March through May was basically survival. I was burnt out, and the kids fed off my energy. Once the end of May hit, we took off for summer. Our summer has been so busy. In the beginning, the kids still did some of their workbooks because they really liked them, but then they stopped so we took a break. I think after my family visits this coming week, we will start with their workbooks in August before we dive in to our curriculum.

If you ever want to give CLE a fair trial, you need to break up the lesson lengths! For a young student, no more than 20 minutes at a time. Then it would be up to you if you do one or two 20 minutes a day sessions. I taught my children with CLE and I don’t think there’s another curriculum quite that complete for teaching children to read. I would also adjust the amount of writing we did. We never filled in the handwriting page, and for the first sounds pages, little ink pads and letter stamps are so much fun

We are going to start TGTB kindergarten next week.

Have you used Sonlights LA?

We use both! I love the structured way and the order in which All About Reading introduces concepts- it's based on the Orton-Gillingham approach which is highly effective. We use TGATB workbook to supplement/change things up every now and then.

How do you teach the reading booster cards? Do you use flash cards or do you just have your student read from the book? Because I've heard other people say that their child is memorizing the words on the cards

We have used both in our homeschool, and they have both helped my daughters immensely! :)

I thought I would be interested in doing AAR for my son’s kindergarten year but after doing TGATB pre-k language arts and thriving, I think we are leaning towards TGATB level K. All programs have their cons. This is a good comparison video!

You mentioned that TGTB also has aspects of geography in it, is that just American geography or global? I’m in Australia so wondering if I need to supplement sections.

I bought both as well. We made it to lesson 2 in AAR. So far, my son is doing great with TGTB. It jives with him way better than the flashcard system. Great comparison!

Love this video! I also feel that TGATB has shocked me and I love it more than I thought it would. I originally planned on doing All About Reading but after seeing flip throughs and the sample lessons I think TGATB is a better fit for my son. Also, just an idea, but something I do with my son is ask “would you like to do school in the playroom or the dining room?” So I let him know that school is going to happen but he can pick where. A lot of the time lately we have been sitting on the playroom floor doing school. I think it makes it a little more casual or rather than sitting at the table in a very structured setting.

We realized at the end of TGATB K math that it definitely is a massive spiral method, which left some serious holes for our kiddo. We love the language arts though! We started with the preschool in January and plan to start the kindergarten this coming school year. We use Jady A elemental phonics as well because I like to throw a few different ways of learning at my kiddos to see what works best for them. It’s ok to keep going with this curriculum until you feel at peace leaving it or sticking to it. If you have to start fresh in kindergarten this coming school year who cares! Two years of kindergarten can only make the foundations stronger ❤
